Windows On Mac :: Sound Scratchy On Logitech USB Headset
Dec 16, 2009
So I installed Windows XP Home Edition on my MacBook Pro 13 Inch via VMware fusion. For some reason the sound is scratchy when I plug up my Logitech USB headset? The sound is fine when its coming through on the speakers, also the headset works find with my Macbook.

I own a Logitech G35 7.1 surround headset. Sadly I can't seem to make the surround sound working in OSX.
Everything is working fine besides this, but setting up surround speakers is simply not available as this image shows.

I just hooked up my logitech speakers to my IMac and they don't sound as good as they did on my pc. On my pc there was some settings that were the Realtek that had a bunch of audio options that made it sound much better. Is there anything like that for a mac? I can't find anything like that in the apple menu settings.

I'm running the latest version of Parallels 5.0 and Windows 7. When I plug the headset in it asks me whether I want to plug it into Mac OS or Virtual Machine. I've tried both but for some reason it doesn't seem to work! Only the headphones will work, yet the mic won't - consequently it will automatically use the built-in mic of my MBP. However, my headset works just fine in VMWare. How could I make the headset's mic work in Parallels too?

I have a PowerMac G4 with mirrored drive doors and just realized that my HDD (I think) is making these wierd scratchy squeaking noises. It might be my fan making them but I am not 100% sure. I am hoping that this doesn't mean the HDD is about to kick the bucket. Should I get a new HDD and ditch the old one? How would I go about swapping hard drives? I know there are issues with getting the new one to boot the comp n such.

Every once in awhile I'll go to a webpage (usually not the same one every time), and some of the text will be Scratchy looking (for lack of a better term). Kind of like those website verification systems where you have to type in the letters and numbers they give you, but there are lines scratched all over them so that bots can't read the picture and fill in the letters and text automatically. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about: The only thing that I can think of that might be causing this is that I have like 1,500++ fonts loaded on my computer and it might just be getting confused with all those fonts running simultaneously.

First off, I'm doing this on a MBP bought in June of '08, running Windows XP in VMWare fusion off of my bootcamp partition. Also, my Logitech MX Revolution mouse pairs up perfectly fine.
Well, my MX Revolution used to work on my XP partition a while ago, but I hadn't booted up directly into Windows for a while and was just using VMWare Fusion. I recently installed a new game on my XP partition and used bootcamp to directly boot up into it, but it wouldn't work.
I kept trying to use the Bluetooth Devices program in the Control Panel, which kept leading me to using the "Add Bluetooth Device Wizard." I keep using "Don't use a passcode" and it tells me it pairs (when I press the connect button on the bottom of the mouse), but the mouse does not work.
I then kept searching for updates for the Apple Bluetooth drivers, but everything was up to date.
So I decided to go into control panel and go into Add/Remove Programs and tried manually uninstalling that said "Bluetooth Drivers." Unfortunately, I may have screwed something up here haha. I can't find anything to replace those drivers I uninstalled now. I think I've created more problems than I've solved...
Also, when I try and use Logitech SetPoint and use the connection wizard, it just tells me "Please connect Bluetooth USB device" so it's obviously not recognizing the internal Bluetooth receiver (and I made sure it's connected in VMWare, AND I've tried it booting directly into the XP partition!)

I purchased a MacBook 2010 from bestbuy almost two weeks ago, I have only really internet surfed and added some songs from my ipod using senuti. Yesterday I started noticing this little noise sort of a sounds like a bug like a scratchy hiss (or something spinning kind of like the noise my ipod classic makes every now n then) its very quick but it happens every few seconds. Now mind you it is very faint cant hear it if there's noise around me but if its silent I can hear it. I wanted to know am if its something I should be concerned with or was this small noise there from the beginning and i just started paying attention.

Last night I installed Windows Vista to run a game on here, but I got several issues. I already installed the drivers from the Snow Leopard DVD, but the problems still persist.
The issues are:
1. Sound is very very low and uneven. I have the volume all the way maxed, but the loudest it can go is less than half than the potential volume in Snow Leopard.
2. Headphones don't work. I've tried like 3 pairs of headphones and none of them work. When I plug them in, the sound still comes from the left speaker (I can barely hear the right speaker) on the laptop and not on the headphones. Also, the headphone jack is emitting a red light out of it.
3. The lights on the keyboard won't shut off. I used the F5 key to turn off the keyboard backlighting, and while it goes very dim they won't shut off.
I already tried the suggestions on this thread but none of those fixes work. I need help! Especially with the sound! Anything at all would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running a MacBook Pro 13" from June 2009, 2.26GHz Intel, 4GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce 9400M. I instlled a 64bit version of Windows Vista (OEM).

I recently put XP on my mac with bootcamp. When I put the OSX install disk in, install all of the drivers up to the sound driver and then restarts without finishing. I have no sound probably because of this. Any ideas?

I recently got my new iMac 27" i7 and I have successfully installed Windows XP via Boot Camp. I have everything up and running except I believe there's a sound quality issue. When I play music on the Mac OS side it seems very clear and precise. However, when music is played via Windows the sound seems to have deteriorated, almost hollow or more muffled?
Has anybody else experienced this? Is this normal for Windows or this a driver issue?

So everything was working fine, until this morning when i installed the new 64x Nvidia drivers and the realtec driver updates. In hope of stopping the random freezing i have been getting (the computer completely freezes and i have to do a cold shutdown).
Well i have spent the last 2 hours trying to get my sound back, which stopped working after restarting following the installation of those 2 drivers.
Importantly, when i press F10 or F11 (the mac volume keys) i get no HUD or any change in system sound, this always worked before.
I have tried rolling back Realtek drivers, and also repairing bootcamp drivers via disk and via bootcamp 2.1 vista update download. All unsuccesfully.
I have speaker sound coming out on the EQ but system sound is dead.
Also no sound from headphones.

Currently I'm using the Razer Megalodon gaming headset for just about everything. I like speakers but most times I want everything to be around my ears. I'm always looking for the next best thing, and in this case it's a headset that does/has the following:
- Connects through USB
- Goes OVER ears
- Has a microphone
Don't get me wrong, the Razor Megalodon is great but I want to know if theres something with better sound quality.

I currently have skype on my MBP, and am wondering if it is possible to buy a bluetooth headset (such as the jawbone), and use it to talk on skype, through the MBP? Would setting up the headset be as easy as a mighty mouse? or keyboard?

I'm looking to purchase the Sennheiser PC PRO Gaming Headset PC360 to use with my 2009 Mac Pro mainly for Skype, Starcraft 2 and a few other games but the headset is not USB.
I heard that the Mac Pro doesn't support audio in, with the 3.5mm jack and wanted to make sure this would work fine before I bought it.

I have the mic plug hooked in the mic slot, and the audio plug hooked into the audio plug. Now when I talk its using the internal mic and not the headset mic. And I am not sure how to switch theses. When I talk people hear the fans from my MBP more than me. I am using windows 7 beta when talking on the mic not OS X

Is there any way to use the built in speakers in a mac while the headset is plugged in?
I live in a collective, so I can not use the speakers 50% of the time. When I plug in the Headset, the speakers go off.
And I have not found a way to activate the speakers without plugging out the headset.

Here's my puzzler of the moment: I have a Creative USB headset (the Fatal1ty gaming headset for Mac, which I bought at an Apple store). It's been working fine via USB (with the notable exception that it stops working easily if even slightly jostled).
In the last few days, however, it stopped working when plugged directly into the Mac. The audio out still works, and it shows up as an audio input device, but when selected it does not detect any incoming audio.
I assumed it was a headset problem until I tested it plugged into a USB hub - plugged into the hub, it works fine.

So I bought this Logitech ClearChat Stereo headset at Walmart today. It doesn't work. The headphone portion does, but the mic doesn't. Yes, the switch is switched to "on". Now it does say on the side of the packaging that it will not work on Apple hardware, but I decided to give them a try anyway, finding out that it doesn't work.
It's just 2 standard 3.5mm plugs (one for the mic, and one for the headphone). I don't see why it wouldn't work. I have a cable that has the same 3.5mm plugs on both ends and I can plug one end into my iPhone and one into my MBP's line-in, start playing music and the audio will work. I guess it really meant what was on the side of the box, but I'd like to get this working. I've read a few reviews for this on Newegg of people getting it to work on their MacBook's.

I'm pretty new to Macs, I've tried googeling and searching this forum. I didn't find anything sounding like my problem, so I hope somebody can help me with this.
I use Teamspeak and Skype on a regular basis. I already knew that you require a USB adapter to use your normal headset, so I bought one by Creative (actually, a USB soundcard) when my new iMac arrived.
At first, everything seemed to work fine. I was talking to a few guys in Teamspeak when they told me I sound like Darth Vader all of a sudden. I doublechecked that by switching channels and doing the Teamspeak self voice test. It sounded really choppy, my friends were right.
I disconnected the USB soundcard, replugged it a few times. Eventually, it worked again. Well, it didn't prove to be for ever, since the problem came back - I can't say there's any special situation and I couldn't reproduce it. It was just random.
Ok, my second guess was that I would require different hardware, since Creative didn't provide any drivers for MacOS. I went back to the shop and bought a simple adapter by Speedlink, cheap stuff, I know. I just figured "less complicated hardware equals less problems". This Speedlink adapater just transforms the signal for USB.
MacOS found it straight away, and I started using my headset again. Well, cut a long story short, the same thing happened today, at random. My voice suddenly becomes chopppy and sounds something like Vader. I switch to internal Mic, use it for a few minutes, switch back (Sound Source is great), the mic works for a while, and then it all starts over again.
So, any of you guys have an idea what the problem is?
(before you ask, it's a Sennheiser headset, upper middle class, and has never failed me before)

MacBook Pro late 2009
10.7 (OS X Lion)
Today I received my brand new Sennheiser PX 210 BT. This headset supports APT-X for significant better audio quality.
Alt+click the bluetooth icon in the menubar tells me the following info:
Bluetooth Version: 4.0.3.f12 Active codec: SBC (this should be APT-X)
How can I change/fix this so I can use APT-X as the bluetooth codec?
Info:
MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), Mac OS X (10.7.3), iPhone 4
