I have an Apple Airport Express which I run through my PC to play iTunes and use wireless internet.
Recently, I installed iTunes 8, and much to my frustration, when I try to play my iTunes through my stereo, an error message comes up saying "Cannot connect to speakers error -3256 has occurred.
I'm having trouble getting airtunes to play to my remote speakers. It worked as of this morning, but I moved the box to the other side of the room and added a printer. Ended up reseting the airport express. It's set up with a green light, but when I attempt to play music I get "An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker.... An unknown error occurred (-3256)" etc.
I've upgraded the airport firmware, reset settings for AEBS and the express, restarted the computer, and now I am out of ideas.
A question about windows 7 and a Mac pro 3.1 edition 2008. I have installed windows 7 and all is fine and dandy everything works, except in the bottom right hand corner there the error flag showing on the tool bar.
This is the error.
Apple Memory Controller GPE event is not compatible with windows 7.
my parents iMac 20" Core Duo is having issues. After bootcamp restarts the system I get an error on start up, a folder with a question mark shows up aswell as that prohibition logo How can I install Windows 7 on that machine?

That's the command, which I get the following error:
The boot configuration data store could not be opened. Access is denied.
"Provides support for switching between Mac OS X and Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I get this error every time i start up windows xp in bootcamp.
I was told windows works seamlessly with the new mac pro. Getting this mac pro is proving to be a whole lot of hassle. I've spent the last week and a day full-time trying to sort out these errors. Getting bit sick and tired and frankly, running out of time!
In my attempt to install Windows XP via Boot Camp, I accidentally inserted an SP1 disc instead of the SP2 disc that I have. The installation proceeded to the point where it does for most who attempt this: the screen where you are prompted to press ENTER. I could not proceed and therefore restarted the iMac and held down the mouse button upon start-up to remove the CD.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM:I can not boot into OS X because the keyboard shortcuts (those that might allow me to select which partition to boot from and/or reset PRAM) seem to be disabled. Instead, a reboot always ends at a black screen with a blinking DOS-esque cursor, or the prompt: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key."
I have attempted inserting my SP2 disc at this point, to no avail. My keyboard seems to be disabled, as if the SP1 install proceeded just enough to establish itself as the boot drive without drivers for the keyboard. I've tried using all 3 USB ports, disconnecting other USB devices. Oddly, my bluetooth mouse works to eject the CD on reboot...

After installing Windows 7 on my mac, and installing the Apple drivers, I made an attempt to pair my Apple Wireless Keyboard with Windows. Well, Windows recognizes the device, but whenever I attempt to connect the two I get an error. The error states: Adding the device failed resulting in a unknown error. The reported error code is: 0x80004005. It then tells me to contact the device manufacturer. Did anyone else get this error?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble loading window XP pro OEM sp2 using Bootcamp on my macbook OSX 10.5.8 It gets through copying all the files and reboots successfully through to the install window and the setup program for windows (where it displays various marketing info and has dot buttons down the left hand side). It says it will take 39 mins to setup but the counter never changes and I have left it up to an hour and nothing happens although once I did get a disk error message (something about cleaning the CD - can't remember exactly). I am doing full installs and have tried FAT and NTFS. At first I thought it was because it was an OEM but it is a Microsoft OEM and other people online seem to have no problems and do not seem to get as far in the install if it is that. Is this a dud CD or version of windows or am I just doing something wrong?

im trying to install windows vista on my imac. when i go threw the set up when it tells me to pick my partition i do and then i have to format it to ntfs when i click the button to format i get this error:0x8004005 and it doesnt allow me to continue... i tried searching the internet for other ppl but there doesnt seem to be that much on it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running OS 10.5.8 purchased June of 2009. I want to install windows and run it on Bootcamp. I have been following the BootCamp installation and setup guide. During step 1 where you partition the disk I chose 32 gb for the windows partition. When I ran the partition I got a disk error message which suggested I run the disk utility. I did this, tried again, and got the same error. I did it again - no luck. Failing this, the installation guide suggested I backup all files and do a clean reinstall of the system software. I did this and the OSX software installation went smoothly. I then ran all the Apple updates. I then re-tried the disk partition and it went fine. I then followed the steps to install windows. The installation guide recommended to make sure that the full system is used, not an upgrade. What I received was called Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OEM software. I didn't notice the OEM designation before the installation and don't fully understand what OEM is. What gave me confidence when I chose this product was that many of reviews were from mac owners who successfully used it for bootcamp and parallels. Also discussions on this forum seem to indicate that OEM should work. Everything seem to be going smoothly in the Windows installation. I chose 32 gb partition and "FAT" (not "NTFS" or "FAT Quick") as the format for the partition. Things went bad when I got to the screen that has bullet points for the various steps of the Windows installation: Collecting Information, Dynamic Update, Preparing Installation, Installing Windows, etc. It went through the initial stages successfully until somewhere within the Installing Windows stage. At that point I got a screen with a message that said: "A problem has been detected and windows has to shut down to prevent damage to your computer." Below that it said: "Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". I haven't been able to get past this error in the installation. I checked the troubleshooting information in the Bootcamp installation guide and I noticed that it warned against using OEM software.
Been on Windows 7 for a while now, and when I first installed Windows 7 (upgrade from Vista) I've been getting an error saying I have no default mail program. I use Windows Mail with my hotmail account, but it still gives me an error. I did not do a clean install of Win7, I upgraded it (to where it saved all of my previous data)

I have updated everything I can think to update. The disk is a retail Windows XP with SP2. I have even tried reseating the battery. I can get back to OSX but would still like to install Windows rather than give up.

I managed to eject the disk by holding down the mouse button, but my problem is that the mbp starts up in the corrupted windows installation and stops again. I'm in an endless rutine where I cannot boot in Leopard again.
I'v tried to give it the Leopard installation disk but it's beeing ejected. How do I get pass bootcamp and into OS X again.
I have a new IMac and I installed vista via bootcamp, when I start up vista I am getting a blue error screen that flashes so fast i cant even ready it... then the computer shuts down. When I restart it again it goes to the page that gives me the choice to safe start or start normal. Sometimes it will let me go to windows and work fine but there have been times when it just does that over and over again. Does anyone know what this is caused from? I guess I'll have to reformat or something. If I continue to use my computer this way will it wreck something?

Anyway, I have a legit CD for Vista that I used to install it however when I was selecting the partition to use I got the message that "Windows cannot be installed on this partition as it is not NTFS" or something in that general wording. So, is there any way to create a bootcamp partition as NTFS or is it possible to run Vista on a non NTFS partition.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI first installed Windows XP when I got my early 2008 Mac Pro. Boot Camp was probably beta back then, but I cant say my experience has changed much through Vista 32 bit or now Windows 7 64 bit. The way to dual boot, holding ALt during boot, has worked 1/10 times. Literally. The boot symbols are usually delayed, so I know when I choose the win partition, it gives me the "No bootable device" error. Two times have I had heavy OS X crashes after these boot-up "games". This last time I had to completely reinstall OS X (or upgrade to SL). How could this be, im not even booting into OS X when I am trying to boot into win.
I even have a separate hard drive for my Win partition. Not to mention the stream of driver issues you encounter when you finally manage to get inside Windows. I actually had my apple wireless and mouse working in Windows 7, but then I installed Boot Camp drivers of the DVD, and now theyre dead. I know. Its Windows, why would I miss it? Gaming or apps, regardless. Apple shouldnt include a program that functions so poorly, if they insist on higher standards elsewhere. It only reflects badly upon them. I consider myself a decent level mac user, venturing into command line troubleshooting if needed. But BootCamp remains a mystery to me.
I have been trying to install Windows XP Pro SP3 on my MacBook, and after the installation finishes, I get an error saying that hal.dll can't be found. Really strange. Windows 7 installs fine, but I'd like to install XP for nostalgia's sake.
The disc is clean and I get no errors during install.
I know this question has probably been answered somewhere, but I can't seem to find anything quite like my situation.
I'm resizing the Windows partition on a 2.2GHz 15" Macbook Pro. I deleted the partition using Boot Camp, but when I went back to repartition it, I get the error that states:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. - Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume ..."
However, according to Disk Utility, there's only one partition on the drive, and it's correctly formatted. I'm not missing any hard drive space or anything. Is there any way to fix this without going through the hassle of reformatting my hard drive?
I have tried to install windows on my mac and bootcamp says files can't be moved, I haven't got a problem with reinstalling my mac provided someone can tell me if it's possible using a backup from time machine and the process needed please. I've no idea whether it will work and I want to be 99.99999% sure before I do anything as I have important work on my mac which I can't afford to loose.
View 5 Replies View RelatedA company is sending statements as .rtf files. I cannot view them in TextEdit or Pages. I have opened them on PC's so I know that the files exist are are viewable on a PC. The error I get is:
"The document 'xxx.rtf' could not be opened. The file isn't in the correct format."
In smaller text below it:
"The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format."
I get the same message for both TextEdit and Pages.
(To clarify, 'xxx' is not porn. I replaced the actual file name with 'xxx' for this post.... just incase you were wondering)
Every time I try to turn on my computer it immediately goes to the grey screen with the different languages that says you have to hold down the power button until it restarts b/c there's some error. Here's the story behind it. I tried to install windows but Bootcamp wouldn't work. It said I had to back up my computer and reinstall the OS as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (even though it already was!). But I didn't have an external HD that was big enough. I borrowed a friend's external HD and reinstalled from scratch (without putting my old system on yet).
The Windows installation finished, then said there was an error and to restart. It kept saying that and wouldn't restart. Then I tried going back to my Mac OS, and it immediately went to the grey screen with the different languages that says you have to hold down the power button until it restarts b/c there's some error. I even tried reinstalling my old system and it still did this. The disk repair utility said everything on the Mac OS should be fine, though. Eventually I was able to reinstall it clean from the Snow Leopard DVD, but now I can't get my old computer back or windows on it!
I have a small problem. My mac pro (2007) was broken about two weeks ago. Now I have it back but I have a new problem (probably caused by updates by apple). I always used dual boot with windows 7 64 bit, but now it just won't install it anymore.
I use my first HD (320GB) for my 2 os (so snow leopard has 200GB and windows has 100GB). Just like I always did, but now I gives 2 errors:
1. After creating a partition with boot camp, the windows installer says that he cannot install on that partition because he needs NTFS (and it's FAT32).
I encounter this error code when I try and move windows files from HDD onto USB or external disk. It has only occurred since Snow leopard.
