View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from my MBP to a new i5 iMac, and with the new HD space I'm now able to use some valuable disk space for a windows partition. I installed WinXP (seemed fine in Boot Camp), and began the process of installing Parallels 5. I was able to create a virtual machine, but when I try to run Parallels it goes into a "configuring your virtual machine" window (Steps 1 of 4) that just seems to run and run (ran it all last night with no progress further than about 25%).
View 1 Replies View RelatedInstalled Windows 7 to my Parallels 5.0 setup earlier tonight. Everything went well, but for some strange reason, I'm unable to allocate more than 1Gb of RAM to Windows. My Mac has 4gigs of RAM and I would ideally like to allocate 2gigs to my Windows VM (I won't be using it that often) but when I open the Memory pane of the Virtual Machine Configuration panel, I'm unable to move the slider in either direction, nor am I able to manually adjust the RAM value. Sure this can't be right.

However, I can access the disk and its contents thru my Windows virtual machine (Parallels) so I know the drive works. Is this a Parallels settings issue or do I need to change settings/other in my OSX systems preferences?

I have an HP windows xp disc that came with the laptop. It's not letting me install it on Parallels. I am thinking because it needs to hard drives for it? One for windows xp and the other one for recovery. The laptop has drive C and D. How can I make it work on Parallels?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use Parallels to create a virtual PC running Windows 7. I have installed Office 2010 on the PC side and Office 2011 on the Mac. All VBA works fine on the PC side, but bombs on the Mac. It was my understanding (directly from Apple) that with the release of Office 2011 for the Mac that all code was now conforming with the PC version. This is probably true for new code written under Office 2010 (PC), however, most all of my applications have been developed over time through many versions of Windows based software (probably the last 10 years)…to date I have never had an issue with compatibility (on the Windows side). I have done some online research into the errors that I receive, however I am really an novice/intermediate programmer and am unable to find adequate solutions to the initial problems (as shown below).
Once I receive the run-time error 1004 I use the debug feature, etc. and end with "Can't find project or library. The initial error is probably just the beginning, but I am unable to go forward from this point.

I would like to get great performance whenever I use Windows XP and would like to know which installation procedure would help accomplish that.
Would Parallels provide me with a better user experience by installing Windows directly via Parallels OR by having Parallels utilizing a Boot Camp Partition?
So I have VMWare fusion and Windows XP on it...I have read to exclude the virtual machine from time machine backup as any changes made in the virtual machine will cause time machine to recopy the entire thing all over again.
So...I was thinking could I just copy the vmware file into a partition on the external hard drive and periodically replace the vmware file in order to update the settings and changes etc.
I have an XP machine running in VMware Fusion 3.1.2 and I want to back it up and then restore it on a different Mac. How do I do this?

1 - Any one knows if there's some advantage on installing Windows through BootCamp instead of Vm?
Note: One desvantage is that TimeMachine can not auto backup BootCamp partition, but it "yes" do backups the Vm.
trying to open DVDFab 6 under VMWare Fusion 2.0.5. All of my other needed applications run fine in VMWare, and DVDFab runs great via Bootcamp (Windows 7 RC 7100). My last hurdle to be fully switched over from my old PC is to get DVDFab up and running, preferrebly in VMWare so I don't have the hassle of having to reboot.

I want to install VMware on my iMac, so I'll be able to use Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows, which supports VBA, which I need for my work.
But I've heard a lot about how it's possible for something to go wrong while using the virtual machine, which might cause the whole HDD to get corrupted, as I've read here.
So I'm going to install VMware on my iMac, and partition my external HDD (111GB) so that I can install a virtual machine (Windows OS) on it, without risk of corrupting the whole HDD.
Now here's the big question:
If I were to install the virtual machine onto this external HDD, would I still be able to disconnect it from my iMac when I'm not running neither VMware nor the virtual machine at all? Would my iMac be alright if I were to start it up without the external HDD connected?
I ask this because I use this same external HDD to transfer big data files to and fro from different computers. So I will need to disconnect it from the iMac frequently.
I have tried both Parallels and VMware, but neither one will connect to the internet. I've searched all over for solutions for both and have yet to find something that will work. I've tried setting in each app as well as in OSX, but to no avail.
Let me know what information you need about my setup.
I am trying to setup an XP virtual machine with its own IP address on the iMac so I can remote into it from my laptop. I have tried both VMWare Fusion and Parallels to do this. But the VM only sees the network in Shared mode (called Bridged mode in VMWare). But in that mode, the VM gets a random IP address not in the same subdomain as my local network.
When I change the networking mode to Bridged (called NAT in VMWare) the VM gets an IP in the correct sub domain (192.168.0.xxx) and it gets the auto configured Gateway (192.168.0.1) and DNS Server (192.168.0.1) but I can't see any machines on the network. I can't even ping the router (192.168.0.1). The only thing I can see (Ping) is the host iMac (192.168.0.3). But I can't see any other machines or connect to the internet.
I am getting identical behavior in both Parallels and VMWare fusion which makes me think I am doing something wrong.
I just bought my first mac a few days ago. It's a white macbook with snow leopard. I'm still getting used to everything on the mac side
I partitioned the 250 GB hard disk as:
Partition 1: 70 GB, Mac OS X
Partition 2: 150 GB, FAT32 for data sharing
Partition 3: 30 GB, FAT32 for Windows XP running through bootcamp
Everything works fine so far, OS X and Windows XP can see all three partitions. Now I'd like to run Windows in a virtual machine. I've done a lot of searching and can't find a solution where both Mac OS and the virtualized machine can see the large FAT32 shared Partition. Is there any way to make this work, and should I use VMware fusion or parallels?
If this is not possible, can Mac OS at least see the shared partition and copy files to the windows partition while the virtual machine is running so that the windows parition can access some of the files that were originally on the shared partition?
I was under the impression that a Windows license is per machine (i.e. a single license can be used to install it in bootcamp AND in a virtual machine) -- is this correct?
Is it the same for Office 2010 Pro?

I can't seem to adjust the screen resolution in windows to 1280x800 (fullscreen for my laptop display). Please let me know if there is a nvidia control center software or something else I need to accomplish this.
Windows works fine and I downloaded IE7 from the Microsoft website. The issue is, I was doing the windows update and after it installed Service Pack 2, I can no longer use the Microsoft update or Windows Update to go any further.

I just had a second hard drive replaced on my Macbook pro which I have had a little over a year. After the first HD replacement I purchased a WD external drive to back time machine to. Time machine was set up to back up VM to Mac HD and then back Mac HD up to time machine. I am pretty much tech illiterate when it comes to restoring. I have managed to restore the Mac side of the computer, get the VM(Fusion) installed and also installed Windows. For the life of me I cannot find my Windows files. From all I have read there is a chance there may not be any files but I would like to make sure before I begin the long process of rebuilding.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running snow leopard + windows 7 on boot camp. All my documents/data files are presently in windows folders on the boot camp partition and I can access them and write them from my mac using Paragon ntfs.
When I try the VM Ware or Parallels boot camp virtual machines, I cannot access the windows folders from the mac. Most of the documentation assumes that one wants to access the mac files from the virtual windows machine. I want to do the opposite. Does anyone know if it is possible to set up the file sharing on either VmWare or Parallels to allow access of windows folders on the vitual machine from the mac?
I have just installed Windows XP with VMWare Fusion (2.0.6) and every time I shut down VMWare and check the size of the virtual machine back in Finder in OS X (Snow Leopard) it has grown by 2GB or so. Why is it doing this and how can I stop it? (It's now 8GB+ even though there is no software installed on the Windows side). I am running these on a late 2007 iMac.
