Not sure why but froze or crashed,, Ive tryed to install the backup cd, that came when i bought the mac, tryed the hardware tool says hardware working no problems can be a systems problem. what can i do to get past the blinking ? folder
View 2 RepliesI got an Airport express and for the first couple of months i've been fin and learning how to use it.
I set it up so i have 2 profile settings....
one of them is my home setting that takes the express and connects it to my currently working network and extends it wirelessly.
the second setting takes it and disables internet and sets up a wireless network to connect and pay air tunes.
Now every time i take the express past the reach of the home network it just freezes in the yellow blinking sate and wont let me find it with the airport utility.
Now i have the second profile set up for it to work, but the problem is that it wont let me connect to it to change it, so it just keeps blinking forever... untill i bring it back into the range of my home network.
whenever I try to open up itunes or empty trash or launch other applications, my screen will blink once and then nothing. I keep trying to launch itunes and a small screen will come up saying that itunes quit unexpectedly...other applications or empty trash and the screen just blinks, once.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI haven't made many posts here, but I know this is an excellent site. I have a Power Mac G5, Dual 1.8 GHz PPC (June 2004). I found some (4x1GB sticks) PC3200 Samsung Ram for it. I put it in the computer, turned it on, and the power light flashed twice, waited a while, then flashed twice again and kept cycling. After looking around a while I saw that that probably means it is incompatible ram (?).
The ram that I have has an "R" after PC3200. Is this a problem? Anyways, back to my story, So I put the ram back in that I originally had running and it does the same thing (with the flashing lights). I had to go at this point so I said f-it and I will work on the problem on Sunday or Monday. It is just bothering me why it is not working. Can anyone provide any insight? It may just be that the ram isn't properly seated. I really hope that is the problem,

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had this 2.0 Ghz 1gb ram Macbook since September 2007 and this was the first time I've ever had any problemas with it. So let me start from the beginning.
It all started this year. One day I picked up my Macbook and turned it on and I noticed that the screen was blinking quite a lot... then it started to get worse to a point I got really worried and it started to annoy me. Sometimes I'd boot it and Leopard would be changing my wallpaper every second (it's supposed to change my wallpaper everyday according to what I've setup in system preferences). While blinking the colors would get messed up and when I closed the Macbook and let it on, sleeping, I'd open it and it would be on the blue screen as if I had just turned it on.
It's worth mentioning that I was running a version of Leopard I downloaded from a torrent and had installed it from an external hard drive. So I thought I should try to format the machine, erasing everything and installing a new and original version of Tiger. Once I installed AND got all updates installed as well it was running perfectly. The blinking had gone away.
Yesterday I installed some new updates, booted and used it fine. Today I turned it on and it won't go past the blue screen and the apple logo won't show up as well. My Macbook just won't boot... I've tried booting on safe mode, booting with the tiger dvd on, i've tried resetting the pram and everything else I could do. The apple logo won't seem to appear and the machine won't boot.
First the blinking screen and now it won't boot.
Any other suggestions besides taking it to a support store? It's worth mentioning as well that I live in Brazil and support to Apple computers isn't as great and cheap as it is in the US. I've had this Macbook for less than 1 and a half year.
I have the older MacBook Pro with the sleep light on the front button that attaches the screen to the main computer. I noticed that the light no longer blinks when it is on sleep. I recently upgraded my internal HD and have no idea if that could have caused it or not. I guess, since my Mac is three years old, there is also the possibility that the light just got old and went out.

I've been on the phone with Apple a few times, and have had my MacBook (brand new) checked out for antenna issues by a Genius. All is well. I've tried resets of all sorts on the Express, and what happens is that in the mornings the main Express is blinking yellow. This morning nothing--not any kind of reset--would change that. is it time for a new Express?

1) I havent used my mac pro for a couple of weeks
2) I switch it on 5 mins ago and it boots fine, I log in and launch safari from the dock.
3) Computer freezes, mouse doesn't move, complete unresponsive.
4) I push power button for a few seconds to force a shut down.
5) I power up.
6) boots fine, after surfing the web for a few mins, MP just reboots, no warning, screen just goes black and the fans and chime kick in.
7) doesn't get to log in screen, instead it reboots itself, fans and chimes kick in
8) doesn't like it, computer shuts down, front panel light blinking at 1/2 second intervals.
my screen keeps blinking on and off every 10 seconds or so and if I let it rest for a while it settles down but everything is missing from the screen except my screen saver photo.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAbout once a month I have a problem where the machine won't boot and I get the blinking question mark icon on the screen. I've read lots (and lots) of posts about this, all which say that the hard drive is dead or something similar. Disk Utility and Drive Warrior sometimes see no disk and sometimes see a disk that reports a 0 byte capacity. The thing is, it has always come back. The typical pattern is that nothing I do seems to help. Eventually I've tried all the standard things (safe mode, pram reset, etc), rebooted it a bunch and then walk away for a few hours. Nothing seems to work immediately, but if I leave it alone it comes back. What gives? In case it matters I've got an iMac 20" (?), intel duo 2.8 GHz with a 500 GB WD drive. I used to think the problem might be heat related, but I recently had to leave the machine off for a week in this state and when I returned the problem persisted.

Whenever I log into my account before it displays my desktop, a window flashes for a split second that has 2 options to choose from (It looks like whenever my cubase crashes and it prompts me with the options "Reopen" or "Sent report" or something like that) I never manage to exactly see what this window is as I cant read it in time, let alone choose an option. It just switches off quickly. All software updates are recent, and this really bothers me. I dont know what it is. Could it be a virus? Im very careful with what I download online, let alone the websites I visit. The OS itself works fast and on track.I decided to run disk utility and check the hard disk for errors. Turns out there were a few permission errors, and disk errors where it said my MacOSX volume is corrupted. Ive only had this laptop for 6 months, I dont want to send it in to apple just yet. I've run lion recovery since after a backup and fixed the permission and disk errors, then re-verified them and it said everything was now fixed and fine. I restarted and that window STILL flashed.

It started a few days ago.... suddenly, the Computer switches off and the Power LED blinks continues very fast.But at irregular times. It seem to me, when I am not working on it. (I have also connected a PC to the same monitor and keep switching the monitor).
Yesterday i was working all evening, and it did not switch off. This morning while start up it turned off.I checked the memory in My Mac and all 16 GB show up. after I push the power switch for a while and turn it off, I can boot up again (except this morning, where I had to restart after the crash)

So I kinda want to explain my saga of my (late 2009) Macbook Pro.
I got the first generation of the MBP shortly after it came out.... I actually purchased it on Black Friday.
Anyhoo-
-The specs:
-15" Glossy Screen
-2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Due
-2 GB 1064 MHz DDR3
-NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
-Toshiba 250gb HDD
(So as you can see, pretty basic machine.)
Anyway, I'd only had the computer a few months when I started getting the blinking folder on startup. I brought it in, and they verified the HDD was going bad, so they gave me a new HDD. About a month later, I had the same problem happen again. The "Genius" I talked to said it was probably my Logic Board, so they replaced that. However, after getting my computer back from the shop, on my first startup, I got the blinking folder. So I TOOK it back AGAIN, and they replaced my HDD again.
A few months later, I started having issues with both the HDD not spinning up and my USB affecting my iSight camera (weird I know) so I brought it in again, and they finally just replaced my whole computer.
Everything worked great for a while, until once again, I started getting the flashing folder on startup, I took it in and they replaced my HDD again. (Yeah, this is like HDD number 3 for me now)
Since then, I have had the HDD replaced two other times, along with my superdrive, and MagSafe adapter.......I'm not exactly liked at my local Apple Store.... they know me by name... I don't exactly like going there anymore...
I also want to note that I literally baby my computer; I almost polish it daily, and am extremely careful with it
So my current list of repairs looks like this:
� 5 HDD replacements
� New Logic Board
� New Super Drive
� MagSafe adapter
� New Computer
ALL that being said, I plan to sell my computer as soon as Apple Care expires; I can't risk having a flakey computer on my hands... I can't afford to pay for all the repairs. My Apple Care will expire next December, so I'm hoping I can sell it around late December- early January and be just in time for the new MBP refresh, which I'm hoping that year will include possible:
Slight redesign
Lighter computer (in weight)
Faster (of course)
Possibly retina display
Why I'm posting all this is mainly just because I wanted to hear if anyone else has had anything similar happen to them.... I'm a sucker for when it comes to first generation Apple stuff, but now I know.
My Mac just made my heart jump. When I rebooted, it just showed a blank grey screen for about 15 seconds. It then showed a folder with a blinking question mark. I had seen this before on iBooks at my school, and knew it wasn't a good sign. I held down the power button, and rebooted. This time, it started up without a hitch.

I have tried putting in the install cd but it does not work. I try to reinstall mac os x but it tells me it could not be done. I have tried repairing the disk and numerous other things. I did not have anything truly important on the computer so I am not worried if I lose it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy tech teacher gave me a windows cd that has unlimited activations or whatever, and my friend just installed boot camp on his macbook 13". I have the same computer, and yet after partitioning with boot camp assistant, and starting the windows installer with the Windows disk inserted, I get a black screen with a blinking cursor. I have tried repairing the disk when booted from the Leopard cd, resetting the PRAM, and changing the screen resolution to 800X600. I have removed the partition and repartitioned several times. I know for a fact that it is not the disk, because people are installing windows with it as I speak.

I'm sure some may like this feature but for me its annoying. Is there a way to turn the blinking off and just have the folder highlight steadily like they did in Leopard and Tiger?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just installed a Windows 7 using bootcamp, all the installation went without any problems, but when I try to boot the Win7 partition it shows a blinking cursor a long time, then it boots windows and everything works perfectly.
I have read that this problem is related to some BIOS operation that the activated-by-other-means windows 7 copy does. It would be great if there's a solution to this issue because it's very annoying. But anyway it's the price for not buying the things in the right way (I'm only use windows a few times and I want to try Win7, so I'm not planning to pay such a expensive price for a full price license)
However, My worries are in other directions, does this BIOS things, harm in any way to the regular OSX boot process?? Actually OSX boots as usual.
I had only Windows 7 on my HDD for the past few months. I wanted to reinstall mac osx so I restarted it and tried to install it on a partition I made in 7 but to no avail. The disc reformatted the HDD as BOOTCAMP with the old data on it and I lost the extra partition. I placed the HDD in an exernal bay that I have. I backed up what I needed and reformatted. It's being read as G: (NTFS) on my PC and it works. I rebooted witht eh DVD in to reinstall MAC and redo the BOOTCAMP system but the blinking folder comes up.

I'm a relatively new Mac user. In fact, I haven't had that much experience at all. I work in a donations store and today we got a donation of an iMac. I searched around a bit and I'm sure it's a G5 model. It looks like [URL]. It looks to be in great condition, no scratches, not even a fingerprint on the monitor.
However, when I turned it on, after plugging the power chord in, I started experiencing problems. The fans kicked on and I heard the chime (I assume that was a post?) but I was getting no video and the white LED on the front of the screen was flashing on and off. The exact pattern is strange - I don't think I've see it before. It flashes once, then stops, then flashes again, then stops. Over and over. No sequence. :| The computer did not come with a keyboard or a mouse. I was testing it to see if it actually worked, before I bought the keyboard and the mouse, so I'm wondering if it has something to do with that? I'm not really sure.
finder is not working at all and im am trying not to lose my cool! ok see outta no where finder goes and decides not to work! all i did was install a new update and when my mac restarted and i logged back in and the menu bar at the top for finder was blinking! i noticed my files that i had on my desktop were not visible wen i click on the trash it wont pop up either! i clicked finder on the dock and it still dnt work! the menu bar at the top only blinks when i click on finder! i have tried restarting and shutting down many times! i seen a some people have had the same problem well yah nobody posted any comments that help them!

I tried to reboot in safe mode and it done the same thing. I power cycled by unplugging the holding down the power button.
