View 1 RepliesWhen I first set up this new macbook pro the printer installed perfectly and worked great. Today I hit 'print' and nothing. No printer installed. I'm not a computer guru so I don't know what to do when set up asks for 'machine' ip addresses. What machine...printer or laptop?? Right now I'm very frustrated because it worked great and now, poof, it doesn't. I tried using the install dvd to reinstall the printer after clicking customize it still looked like it wanted to reinstall the whole operating system. Wasn't clear to me at all so I ended that before really screwing things up.
Here's how I'm set up: 13" MacBookPro unibody aluminum, SnowLeopard OSX6, Airport Extreme wireless router, Brother MFC490CW Wireless printer with my wife's intel iMac also connected to the printer via lan cable. I would seriously appreciate some suggestions that I can understand to get this what should be a simple configuration to work and stay put. I suspect it's a simple process but at this point I'm clueless.
I have a Mac mini (mid-2010), Brother MFC-9840CDW multi-function device (built-in wireless), Windows 7 (64-bit) running on Boot Camp, Windows 7 built-in firewall turned off, Westell router
Attempts:
Brother website, "Wireless Setup Wizard for Windows," dated 2007. I appropriately responded to the prompts, only to have the program end without making any noticeable changes.
Brother website, "Full Driver & Software Package." It could did not find my printer to install. It did see my neighbor's printer.
Called Brother. Factory reset of the printer, printer WAN setup WEP with password, printer setting WAN enabled. When wireless failed, we tried to connect the printer via ethernet cable to the router directly. Also pinged the IP address of the printer and input the IP address in the Brother install program instead of having Windows find it on its own.
Called Apple. The tech did not have a clue. Said she would pass me to a lead/supervisor, but no one ever picked up.
Windows could only see the printer if I connected the USB cable directly from the printer to the Mac mini. But I do not want to run it that way. That's why I got the CDW model ("W" for "wireless"). It worked wirelessly under XP on my old PC that the Mac replaced.
I have a Brother HL-2270 DW printer setup on my network. I see it as an option to add, but when I select it, it says that the software is available through apple. So it makes me select "install and continue" or "cancel". If i select continue, it works on it and then says it is not able to find the software. So i manually went on to the brother website and downloaded the driver. WHen I go back to add the printer it still wants to go through the apple software databse, and as a result I cannot load the printer.

My grandfather purchased a Brother MFC-J6510DW all in one printer several weeks ago and since day one we cannot get the thing installed and recognised on his mac.He running an Imac with OS X 10.7. Originally the computer recognised the printer but when we tried to print nothing would happen. We opened up the printer que and noticed that the job had a error but the system didnt tell me what error.I have visited the Brother website and followed the advice to uninstall all the printer drivers and associated docs and then reinstalled the drivers..... Now my grandfathers machine will not recognise my printer at all and when we try to manually search for the drivers (that we have installed) the mac does not load any for this specific printer. Is there anyone out there who can shine a light on our problem)?

After I installed Snow Leopard everything has been working fine but I installed the latest Brother fax/printer driver and supporting apps yesterday Airport stopped working. So I restarted the computer but still won't turn on, no matter what I do. I'm not 100% sure if they are related but it's hard to believe they are not. I can remove all the Brother related stuff but I still need the printer driver.
Has anybody had this problem and can anybody suggest a solution?
I've just got a new Brother HL-210w wireless printer, but the wireless setup has got me completely baffled. Has anybody set one of these up wirelessly? I'm following the directions in the book and using the CD, but I cannot get this printer to work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I'm deciding between getting an HP P1006 or Brother 2140. My concern with these printers is their durability. I have had a Brother HL-2040 for 1.5 yrs but it was an awful experience, I had problems with paper loading. But, several websites say that the Brother 2170W is great. So, I am tempted to buy the 2140 or 2170W but I am not sure if it will be durable. I want to know which one do you guys think is more durable for use with MacOSX Leopard: HP or Brother?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying decide between a Canon or Brother color laser multifunction printer. Quite honestly we don't do a lot of color printing, but I'm so tired of clogged inkjets (can you say Epson) that I'm trying to stay clear of them. A multifunction inkjet would seem appropriate for our situation, but I don't want to have clean printheads once a month. Even if we do get a mutlfunctional laser I still need a a small photoprinter for quick photos prints. My other option is a multifunctional inkjet and then a B&W laser printer. I'm down to Canon and Brother based on the fact both seem to work well with Macs and don't have the bloated software that comes with HP. I can't find any reviews on the Canon lasers since they are relatively new. The Brother machines seem to get good reviews, but quite a few complain about the color prints.

Just wondering, as the title suggests, whether the Brother HL-5370DW mono laser printer creates its own wireless access, or do I need a router?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to install a Cannon 620 printer. It seemed to go ok, showed up on the printer list when I tried to send a job, but it wouldn't come online and print. I fiddled around (bad idea) and changed the printer sharing parameters, and now whenever I try to go into system preferences, printer/fax, it freezes and I have to force quite. Same with other apps when I try to do something with the printer (like word). I tried to uninstall, but can't get to the driver to uninstall it, as it is in systems preferences. how to uninstall even though I can't get into the system pref printer options?

iMac, not sure of the operating system.
A Brother printer update has just appeared in my Software Update, to my surprise.
I actually thought Apple had stopped offering Software Update to third parties, as the only other one I can think of is the Stuffit update that appeared several years ago on fresh installs of OS X (not sure if it still does).
Recently our Brother MFC-9840CDW has stopped printing.
The item just sits in the printing queue forever while it says "Looking for printer".
And the status button on the printer never actually flashes like it did before when we'd print something.
We have not changed any settings recently, it's connected to our TC's network.
Before we could only print if we were connected to that network also,
But now it doesn't seem to work at all either way.
We just reset it to factory settings, re-entered the info for the network to connect to,
and it's still not working... does anyone know why?
I have Mac OSX 10,5,8 Leopard, and I had my computer working with the printer. One day it stopped printing and I tried to reinstall it, the result is that no longer works. It is connected to the home network through a router and certainly it is not a printer problem as my son can print wirelessly with his laptop. Mpreover, i tried to install it again and while my Mac allows me to load the printer driver from the disk or the web, once I go to the "printers and faxes" menu and click + to add a new printer, It does not appear in "My printers" menu or in the "By default" menu.

As anyone set up a brother 2170W printer to communicate with an iMac running 10.5.5. via Airport? Is this possible?
I have it running on USB now no probs (after a firmware update) however when I try to set it up for wireless I still get the 'printer offline' error.
I follow the Brother instructions and use a network cable etc and the mac finds the printer but when I disconnect I get the error.
Since upgrading to 10.6 I haven't been able to print using my Brother HL 1230 printer. On 10.3-10.5 I could use the HL-1240 CUPS drivers, but not on 10.6. Is there anyone out there who has got this printer model working on Snow Leopard?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just connected a Brother MFC-7860DW all in one printer scanner to my Mac wirelessly. Everything works perfectly except the scanning. Image capture will show the Brother in the device browser window, I click on Twain uni but can see no Connect click button. Just opening Image Capture "no device connected" If I go in to Print and Scan box there is no "scan" button at the top right corner as decribed in the manual. I have downloaded Twain in case my software was not up to date. Nothing happens from the printer buttons end. Seems the Mac can talk to the printer but not Twain Scanner. It seems tantalisingly close. Is there a magic completion?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've just switched over from XP and have been problems with uninstalling programs off the Mac (osx tiger). In XP there would normally be a control panel which would show a list of programs on your computer which you could either modify or uninstall. There doesn't appear to be one in mac osx so I decided to drag the file from the applications folder to the trash. It appeared as though everything was fine until I ran a search in spotlight to still find some of the files still on my computer. I was uninstalling Limewire if this helps. I would like to rid my computer of everything associated to this program.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was curious about something. If I was to take a Application from the Application area in OSX and drag it to the trash, it is uninstalled.
Now I've downloaded a program call Apptrap, so it will remove all of the associated files along with the program.
If I were to decide to put the program back in the Applications area of OSX by dragging it, how do I get the associated files back where they belong? I wasn't sure if the program would create new files once I started the program again or what. I removed a program and it had some associated files with it but I don't know where they went and have since deleted them.
What do ya do in a situation like this?
1. Am I supposed to run any kind of disk maintenance (repairing permissions for example) prior to reinstalling Leopard?
2. Since all of my apps are going to be downgraded to its previous versions that originally came with Leopard installation DVDs, and my OS is going to be downgraded to 10.5.3 (I am on 10.5.7 at the moment), I am in a dilemma. Is it better to go with step-by-step update of Leopard (first download 10.5.4 and install it, than 10.5.5, etc...) or go directly to 10.5.7 from 10.5.3 (I think combo update is all about that, correct me if I am wrong)
3. About all the apps that go with Leopard (iTunes, iMovie, Quick Time Player)... Do you suggest me to update them as soon as I install 10.5.3 or to update to 10.5.7 first and then install all the application updates?
