I just set up my Airport Extreme, which is connected to my modem, and created a new network. The problem is that when I connect my MBP to my new network, it doesn't prompt for the password which I have set to WPA2. I'm not sure if it's the cause, but I called my ISP about my Airport Extreme previously finding an invalid IP address and just overall not working. He told me that it's strangely acting like a hub instead of a router which he said is not secure. I'm not really sure what he meant but he doesn't seem to know how to fix it. I can connect to the internet but the problem is that there is absolutely not security and perhaps that's the cause of the airport acting weird?

After downloading a few new apps tonight, both off the App Store and Safari, I noticed that s6761bm0t3r1 had been newly listed under shared.
One of the apps i downloaded ended up changing my homepage and search engine which was annoying but not too unusual.
After changing things back to usual I went to look through finder to see if anything unwanted had been downloaded and that's when i noticed it. I know it's not my printer because i turned my printer on and it showed up under a different nameI have never had any other machines connect like this to my mac that i know of besides my printerWhen i try to click more info it just keeps on fetching and won't show anythingWhen i try to double click on it it tries to connect and soon after says Connection failedI don't know if it's from something i downloaded but I first noticed it immediately afterwards so I'm thinking it is

I'm not able to connect to my network, and I'm stock. I'm not a MAC user generally. So I'll try to explain to you briefly what I've been trying to do. No command line stuff! Switching my computer on shows me that I have 3 networks available, I tried to connect to the one I want, it prompted me for the username and password, and kept the authentication option as Auto. Clicking enter doesn't do anything! It should have prompted up for the certificate to install. I checked to see if I have the certificate previously installed using the keychain utility and there wasn't anything there. I even deleted the login key, but its still showing an error in Safari "you are not connected to the internet".

My Mac partition recently got corrupted to the point of needing a fresh install. I just starting installing my utilities again and downloaded the newest version of NTFS-3G. While doing this, I noticed that there was a "professional" version of NTFS-3G sold by Tuxera (who makes NTFS-3G). I tried to find information comparing the two, but can't; Even on their own website. Does anyone know what the major differences between them are? Is worth the $31 for a normal user (meaning someone who has a BootCamp partition, but doesn't always copy to and from it)?

I need to use hdiutil create command line to create DMG within a script. A popup asks me to enter my password. I would like to skip this step which breaks the execution of the script and automation of the DMG generation. How to skip the password prompting or pre-enter my password so that the script can execute without any action from any user.

I have the latest version of Safari (5.0.2) on Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I'm also using 1Password (3.4.4). I'm encountering two issues:
1) Safari rarely Autofills user/passwords when surfing. Autofill is checked off for "User names and passwords".
2) I keep getting prompted over and over again to save my login information in Safari. I continue to click "Yes" but neither Autofill remembers the information and I get prompted again the next time I login.

I've got an idea for an application that will expand upon the idea of a "shared network drive". Initial release will not include a "web app" per se, it would only include computers connected to the same network. Long-term though I would like to have a web interface similar to that of DropBox. What sort of technologies would I need in order to implement this? Objective-C? Things like, "right-click" menu modification, accessing hard-drives of other computers on the network running the same application.

I have purchased a 750 gig Firewire hard drive and have created several partitions on the drive for Time Machine, my iTunes library and other things. I would like to make some of these partitions able to be seen from another machine on the same network. For example my iMac would have the drive mounted and my MacBook Pro would be able to back up to this drive from the network. Is this possible, both machines are running 10.5.3..

When I go to system preferences and then groups and users, it is showing that a guest user has set up a profile. I did not set this up. My computer won't let me erase this user.  The "minus" symbol at the bottom of the tab is highlighted grey and my mouse can't select it. Also, the box that says "let this user administer this computer is checked and it won't let me uncheck it. Weird. What do I do?

I don't know if its my installation because of upgrade or all Snow Leopard installations, but SL is asking frequently for the administrator's userid and password. When trying to do a Software Update, it asks before starting. On Leopard it would ask before installing, but not before checking. Seems unnecessary.I can't remember where but I've seen it pop up much more frequently than before. I've even had it prompt me twice during an application install.Even running XCode for development. Try and debug an application, it now comes up asking for the userid/pw or someone in the developer group. I don't see a built in app to configure who's in what group. Normal Unix group commands don't seem to be present.

I just bought a used Emac running 10.3.9. The previous owner does not remember the administrator password nor did I realize how important it is to have. I have the original install discs and did boot using the disc. I then went under the install menu and chose reset password. I changed the user password but have been unsuccessful at changing the admin password. The drop down menu in password reset gave me the option of Administrator (root), Application, or finally user. I have read a couple of articles cautioning not to change or work with root changes.

A week ago, my computer (Macbook) "crashed". When I powered it up, it would go to the grey apple screen, then it would go to a blue screen, then it would switch to a light blue screen, then back to the darker blue screen, etc and never fully boot into OSX. I finally found my install discs for OSX and reinstalled my operating system from scratch, formatted my hard drive, and started new. Once I reinstalled, I realized how outdated and different everything looked... and I realized I was running OSX 10.4. So from there, I found my Leopard disc (10.5), put that in, and "Upgraded" my system to 10.5.
And basically here's where I'm at now:........................

After upgrading to Leopard, when I try to install or update any program on my computer it asks for the Administrator username and password. Well that should not be a problem seeing as how I am the administrator and so I type in my name and my password and it says "you must type an administrator's name and password to make changes to software update." So I went to system settings and checked and it no longer has my account as the administrator and I can't make any changes because I am not the administrator no more. After installing Leopard, this has happened. What should I do? (I am fairly new to Macs, I have had my Macbook about 3 months.) I also noticed that my Macbook (when I shut it) has started to wake itself up from sleep mode and stay that way while it's still closed.
