I've never seen anything like this. It started out as humorous, but now it's just aggravating. I even tried updating the software the the latest version, and it still opens on its own, with no apparent prompting, after I have quit the program.
I'm on Mac OS X.

So how do I find out what process is launching iTunes while I'm busy doing other things?
For instance, I could be watching a youtube video without my hands on my mac or any peripherals connected, when suddenly focus switches from the browser because iTunes has decided to launch again. I keep my itunes library on an external drive, so iTunes also complains that it can't find the library, which is reasonable. It's more annoying when I'm busy coding and suddenly my focus is stolen and itunes suddenly appears.
It's been happening on and off since I bought my Air (in late 2011), so it's certainly not specific to the OS or the version of iTunes. I imagine some other process is causing it to launch - I'd like to find that other app and squash it. Some log file? Some oddball terminal command I can't remember? "What is the process that launches another process?"

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm still learning new things with my MBP. I have some mp3s placed on the desktop and I know there's a play arrow in the middle and I can play them. Well I stumbled upon a way to play the song without iTunes opening, but it had what looked like a real music player with play, FF, RW. I'm guessing I used some finger gesture to get it to do that, anybody know how I can recreate it? I tried searching, but can't figure it out. As I said, still learning all the cool tricks with the Mac! Anyways, to clarify, it did NOT open iTunes, but had an mp3 player. Also, it was not quicktime player. It was bigger than just a tiny rectangle with RW, Play, and FF. No software was opened, but there was still a big rectangular box that opened.

It doesn't matter what I do- It's not the iTunes dashboard widget because I removed it, I turned off the iTunes helper app so it doesn't start up with the computer, and it keeps opening up and playing music for no reason.

I open the Force Quit window, and it says iTunes is open, even though iTunes does not have a shining circle next to it. I force quit it, and after about 5 minutes, iTunes is gone from the Force Quit window. I tried removing the preferences and receipts for iTunes, reinstalling iTunes, repairing permissions, and repairing my hard drive, but nothing seems to work. iTunes does work on a different account on my computer, so the problem must be with my account.
I am using Mac OS X 10.5.8 and iTunes 9.1.1.
My iTunes keeps opening by itself and starts playing music. I cannot figure this out. I turned off the "Sync Via Wireless" on all my gadgets, but this continues to happen. This has woken me up in the middle of the night until I got so tired of it I just shut my Mac down.

iTunes was open and I was listening to my music through my headphones when it paused randomly. I unpaused it and went on my way, but a few seconds later it paused again, then unpaused. I dealt with it for a little while, then I decided to close iTunes and listen to Pandora. Now iTunes is opening and playing music by itself, no matter how many times I quit it.

I've recently noticed that my iTunes is lagging. Here's my situation: I swapped out the stock HDD for a 500GB 5400RPM drive. I have about 98GB free on the drive. Whenever I open iTunes (my library is 235GB), it lags considerably more than it used to. Is this because the size of the library and the speed of the drive? Is there anything I could do to alleviate this problem? I have 2GB of RAM, should I upgrade to 4GB?

Happened after iMac crashed and was restored from Time Machine. I shut down the iMac for 4 days and when started up said I need to erase HD and restore from Time Machine. I recently got a new iMac and find to my chagrin that I cannot open any of the music I bought under two older emails whose passwords for my apple id at that time I cannot remember. This seems completely unfair. I have spoken to apple and they have given up. The files are still in my music library, but the new iMac is not "authorized" to open them. Only files I have bought in the last few years will open.

I clicked on it and it opened my library from that date. I am really mad because it will now only open that library and im missing almost a thousand songs that have been downloaded since then. Why can i only open a previous library? Are all the songs, movies, and other settings that i have changed in the last 6 months gone?

When you click the pause/play button on the Apple Remote, iTunes opens and begins playing. The same thing happens when you hit the pause/play button on the media bar. I thought I was becoming dyslexic because iTunes kept playing randomly. It was only until today when I discovered this bug while playing a file in VLC. Apparently it happens with pretty much any app.

I want them to be part of an album called "mobb deep", but the majority of these songs are from different albums and mixtapes, and most doesn't even have the album title on them. So on Windows I would simply mark all the files in the folder and right click, hit properties and then I'd be able to type in an album name. First of all when I mark 20 files on Mac and right click it'll open 20 windows instead of one window for all of the files (one of the dumbest things on OSX, I love everything else but this is mad stupid) - second of all I don't even think it's possible to type in the album name when right clicking an mp3 file. So how can I change the album title on all of these files without doing it in iTunes? Reason I aint doing it in iTunes is that it'll be a pain to locate each song in there since they'll be labeled all wrong.

I recently added a NAS with four main partitions (recognizes them as drives). Now, when ever I start up my mac, finder opens four panes, one for each drive. Is there any way I can prevent finder from automatically opening?
