My iMac monitor is not working. I would like to get all information out of the computer onto an external hard drive. How do I do that without being able to see what I'm doing?
View 2 RepliesTitle says it all...how does the new iMac work as an external monitor? Is there a way to use it as a monitor without having to log in / load OS? Is there any delay as compared to a standard monitor? I'm just thinking long term as the iMac becomes long in the tooth and we move on to new machines. Can the iMac still be used as a quick turn on monitor or do you need to load up both machines (and do you need to rely on all parts functioning in the iMac, such as mobo, hard drive, etc. still working) to utilize it as a monitor)?
View 3 Replies View Related24" iMac running 10.6.3 and having some issues all of the sudden with my secondary monitor. It detects the display and the monitor comes out of standby, but only shows a black screen. Tried it with another monitor to see if that was the issue but it's not. Seems as if the iMac is sending bad video signal out... Couldn't find anything similar on a quick google search so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any similar problems.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was surprised one day to find an inch of white line running from top to bottom on my screen. Then after a week it expanded to two inches white line, then suddenly it turned all black and I can't see two inches of my screen from the right edge. I was reading some forums and found out that I can use a dell monitor as a secondary monitor, but is it possible to use the dell monitor as the primary monitor in case the black line will spread throughout the entire iMac screen? so the iMac would serve as a stand alone processor like a regular desktop?

I have a 15" late 2007 MBP that has always worked great, until recently. (10.5.8) The screen was blank this morning. I closed the lid, but the computer did not enter sleep. I opened the lid, and still nothing. (I can still hear the fan working)
I held down the power key for 5 seconds and forced the computer to turn off, and then rebooted. The computer started up as per normal, but still no screen activity. I plugged into my TV - no output signal.
I close the lid again to attempt to sleep, but no sleep. The computer is still running, even with the lid closed. I open the lid, still the same.
After doing a bunch of different things over and over, the screen came back on!
I came back to the laptop later in the morning, and I had to spend 1/2 an hour repeating the above process all over again. There seems to be no logic in my process that gets the monitor working again.
Does anyone think this is a monitor problem, or possibly a latch problem? I've heard that the latch is an important part of the monitor...
(I did upgrade my hard drive myself about 6 months ago, but no problems since... until now.)
I just bought a LG IPS 226v-PN monitor and am using a mini-dsiplayport to HDMI adapter to connect.The monitor was automatically found and I can see and use it as a dual monitor but I am seen a snow like effect on the screen with pixel randomly activating (looks like snow).The other problem is the screen keeps turning off and on.I have switched it to both NTSC and PAL on the iMac.

I have a second monitor for my iMac and than i moved the mac so instead of the monitor being on the right it is now on the left and now every time I reboot it thinks that it is on the right not the left.

I am trying to hook up an external monitor to my mid 2010 MBP. I used a Logiix mini display port to DVI, and then DVI over to the monitor. The monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster EX2220. When I turn everything on the monitor says "check cable" which everything is brand new and I don't have spares on hand to try. My MBP screen flashes quickly like it does when I have hooked up other external devices, TV, or projector except nothing shows up on the other monitor. I have tried to change resolutions but again nothing, installed all updates, restarted both devices and reset PRAM. One other thing that I noticed is the monitor comes with a cd that has a windows device driver. I searched but could not find a mac device driver, yet on the monitor specific webpage it says its mac compatible. It appears to me that the monitor is simply not receiving any signal from the MBP?

There are some other forums discussing this problem with the unibody Macbook pro. I've been using mine since Dec. At irregular intervals the screen becomes blurry (weird double lines all over), and the only thing that works is plugging back in or (more harmless if you have multiple projects up and don't want them to be scattered all over the screen) Control-Shift-Eject to put the display to sleep, then wake it back up after a few seconds with mouse or keyboard. This can be very annoying as sometimes one has to repeat it multiple times. Apple is aware of the problem, but has not come forward with a solution. I just don't want you guys to be disappointed in your new Mini with a capable graphics card...

Recently I installed the Snow Leopard OS on my Macbook Pro, previously I had 10.5 installed. However, now when I connect my Macbook to my flatscreen TV (Panasonic Plasma), using a mini display port cable to an HDMI cable, there's a black border around the edges of the picture. Before the Snow Leopard upgrade I was able to view the entire screen area of the Plasma TV, without any borders. The only thing I've done differently since then is install Snow Leopard. Does anyone know how I can fill the screen with image without using the zoom option on the TV screen, as the zoom cuts off some image at the top and bottom?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using my black macbook for several years with both my Apple Cinema Display and Panasonic TV with the Apple mini-dvi to dvi adapter, but today when I tried to hook my macbook up with the tv it didn't work. The Tv just showed a black picture and nothing happend when I un- and replugged the cable. I tried it on my ACD as well and the colors wasn't right on it. Some colors wasn't showing, eg red. Green and blue was OK. I'm suspecting the adapter to be the problem, 'cause I've tried everything (also in preferences) and been using this method for years! Any thoughts on the problem? Should I buy a new adapter or try something else?
Connection methods;
TV = mini-dvi to dvi, and dvi to hdmi
ACD = mini-dvi to dvi and dvi directly to the ACD
By using boot camp, I finally managed to install XP on my Macbook Pro. I can extend the monitor but the problem is that the extended monitor is in Black&WHite and totally jagged/off centered. I tested the adater and the cable with other machine and they work fine, so definitely issue is not the cable and the adapter. I really need to use Dual monitor for some software that I use on XP, so this is really really important to me.... My MacbookPro is 2.16ghz with 2GB of RAM, and the video card is ATI Radeon X1600. Maybe I need to install different driver for the card? If anyone has done the same please please let me know exactly how you did it
View 18 Replies View RelatedI recently got a PowerMac G4. When I viewed it Everything was working. Upon me hooking it back up I noticed It was not getting any picture. The Monitor was brand new so I did not figure it to be broken I checked the monitor on another computer and it worked great. From what I understand this is a common internal problem on the G4.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI use Expos�'s hot corners on my Al MB. I also use an external monitor at my desk. When I unplug the monitor to disconnect the laptop from being "docked" (as it were), I find that I can't use hot corners anymore. If I restart the Finder, that doesn't fix the issue. If I go to Expos� preferences, and change a hot corner preference (e.g., what gets done when one goes to the upper right corner), then things get fixed. But I really don't want to go to Sys. Prefs. each time I change monitors. Is there any other solution?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new issue with my Mac Pro (3,1 - 2008), it just popped up (and I don't think it was caused by 10.6.3, I remember this working correctly after it was installed I have two monitors connected via DVI to a flashed XFX 4870. The 4870 has never given me any trouble.In the Energy Saver settings, I usually set the machine to never sleep, and the displays to sleep after 5 minutes. This used to work great, never had any trouble with it, ever. Now, the displays don't go to sleep after 5 minutes, they just stay on with a screensaver.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 27" i7. I have a 24" DVI Montior hooked up to it via MDP->DVI adaptor. When the 24" Monitor is on, everything is fine. When I turn the monitor off, the magic mouse tracking on the 27" screen stutters. I am not kidding - it took me ages to figure out that to fix I either need to turn the other monitor on OR disconnect the MDP->DVI adaptor.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel IMAC, which is now out of warranty as I have had it for 16 months (and I was dumb enough not to get AppleCare). A few days back, my computer would not startup and everytime I hit the power button, I would hear some spinning noise but no chime from the iMAC. Yesterday, I tried it again and this time I heard the chime but the monitor did not start. I was then able to SSH into the MAC and see that it is indeed connected to the network and booted up, but the screen is still dead. Any ideas what I should do before the painful trip to the apple store ?

So a couple days of ago, I noticed my MacBook Pro's monitor would cut in and out rapidly for a couple seconds when I adjusted it.Today, my hand grazed the top of the monitor, and it the colors became inverted momentarily. So I decided to touch the top of the monitor again, and my screen became inverted permanently until I tapped it again.
I have a 27" iMac and I'm using Samsung SyncMaster SA850 as a second monitor (connected via a display Port cable with a mini Display Port adapter). Everything worked fine until yesterday - the Samsung screen turned black and now it only works with max resolution 1280 x 1024 (native is 2440x1440). I think I upgraded Lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.3 (I don't remember for sure though). When I connect the monitor to an iMac with 10.7.2 everything works fine. And another iMac with 10.7.3 has the same problem as me.

I have a newer iMac 24" bought in 11/2007. I have the mini-dvi to vga converter and when I connect it to a external tv capable of 1024x768, the iMac freezes and does nothing. I disconnect and the screen turns blue and the flickers back on and everything works. I have made the connection then booted up, and I have tried every resolution all the way down to 640x480, same thing it just locks up the screen, but again as soon as I unplug the mini-dvi to vga cable from the iMac it flicks to a blue screen and everything comes back. I have reviewed dmesg nothing, and revieiw /var/log/messages. Is there any troubleshooting I can do. I am old school unix/linux guy just converted my family to Apple and would like to use the display on my tv to watch my iTunes movies.

View 21 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro 13 for portability to my classes at the university and a Dell 2209WA as an external monitor. One of the few good IPS monitors I could find around for cheap.
The monitor works fine in mirror mode with the MacBook Pro, but as an external display only it does not work. It attempts to wake up and then you see power savings mode again and the screen goes black as if there was no connection. Not sure what exactly the problem here is. Drivers?
The monitor works great with a Mac Mini I have and it works great in mirror but not in external display mode(the lid of the MacBook Pro closed). Anybody know of this issue? The cable is good and the MacBook Pro is not that old(a few weeks).
So I've got a Macbook Air, a cheap 3d party miniDP to DVI dongle I just got from ebay that's connected to a DVI to VGA adapter which is in turn hooked up to an old-ish VGA monitor. The monitor isn't receiving any signals, so I'm wondering if I'm right in concluding that this setup isn't supposed to work?
