Sep 4, 2009When I try to add a buddy into my iChat buddy list, the buddy appears online for a few seconds and is deleted from the list. It happened every time I try to add a new buddy.

MacBook :: Buddies Disappearing In IChat?
Aug 10, 2009I've had this problem for EVER! When I add an AIM buddy or whatever, they flash a few times and then they get deleted somehow. How can I stop this from happening?

Jun 17, 2008I have several iMac systems, all updated to 10.5.3 and running iChat 4.0.3, but only one of them reliably permits me to add new buddies! On my main system I can add a new buddy by selecting an entry from my Address Book, and it adds it to the list grayed out and then makes it solid, apparently after asking the AOL server if it is OK. On the other systems, the entry is added to the list grayed out, and then an alert is displayed and the new entry in removed from the list.
The alert indicates that the server has refused the request! If that same 'buddy' initiates an iChat session, the buddy entry is automatically created and remains in the list and is functional. I have tried trashing all of the related plist files and changing iChat to use port 443, to no avail. It still fails to permit new buddies to be defined (except on my main system, which is working fine). Does anyone know what other differences may exist between the systems that might result in this problem?

I recently filled out my entire Address Book with contacts; address, AIM, email etc. I create my own address book ID as well, enter my info with email & Both screen names. All fine and good, however the past week or two after I filled out my Address Book, I notice that my neither AIM name is appearing on the other AIM names buddy list (in iChat) anymore. I use a 3rd AIM name just to see whats up that isnt in my Address Book and they both show up fine under that 3rd AIM name.so
MacBook Pro :: ICHAT Supports Talking To Buddies From Yahoo Messenger Too?
Mar 27, 2008I am playing with my new MBP and wanted to know if iCHAT supports talking to buddies from Yahoo Messenger too, just like it does for AIM? I got the AIM one to work, and it says something about something called Bonjour (?) but nothing about Yahoo? Please let me know how to set this up as possible, that way I won't need separate programs for AIM and Yahoo Messenger. PS- Does windows media player have a program for MACs? If not, whats the best program similar to Windows Media Player that I can use to view all the same video types as that?

Aug 11, 2003I am currently running iChat 1.0.1 and if I add a new person in iChat, they don't show up on the buddy list. Their address card shows up in Address Book and when I am messaged by the person it shows their name given when I first entered them in, but the buddy list does not show them as being online.

Nov 27, 2009I was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.

When I select available for my status I get a message saying "An unidentified AIM socket error has occurred". How do I fix this problem? I tried logging in using AIM on Windows Vista and it works fine so there is nothing wrong with my account. Also, I have deleted my aim account from ichat and re-addng it and I still get the same error.

Jun 8, 2009I realize that iChat has tie-ins with the address book, so you can take people from there, which I'm sure is great if you use the address book.
There's a standard aim protocol feature that allows you to set aliases for people on your buddy list that is NOT stored locally.
This means I can set their alias on AIM 5.9 in windows, reboot into Linux, open up kopete, see that alias, close kopete, open up pidgin, see that alias, reboot into OS X, start adium, see that alias, etc.

Aug 8, 2010I have been using Ichat for my aim login. I have video chats often, but just recently Ichat won't connect to my aim account. I keep getting this message: "YOU HAVE BEEN DISCONNECT FROM ICHAT SERVICES" an internal error occurred that disconnected you from all ichat services. To resume using ichat log in again to your instant messaging account. So, I tried creating a new aim account and that works fine. My gmail account also works fine. I have just noticed that I can't login to my old aim account using my ipod touch either. I thought maybe it might be an issue with aol, but i have been able to log on using aim express.

OS X :: Cannot See Each Other On The Buddy List Via IChat?
Oct 3, 2010My wife and I used iChat at home (same network) to make sure it worked with video.
We are now on different networks and can't see each other on the buddy list via iChat but can using AIM. In AIM the video menu item is not lit up so it's not usable.
Also in iChat the menu item Buddies noting is lit up/able to be clicked on.

Sep 28, 2008she was having and we tried screen sharing but could not get it to work. It will connect for about 2 seconds and then disconnect. It doesnt give an error message other than "Connection could not be established. We've done it before with no issues. If I try sharing my screen with her it works with no problem. And we are able to do video chatting. We both use 10.5.5 and we are on good web connections.

OS X :: IChat CPU Usage Very High?
Mar 7, 2009Whenever I start iChat on my new mini, it instantly spikes up the CPU usage and just sits there high. Activity Monitor says it's around 97%. I'm not doing anything in it; just starting the app gets it up there, and the only way to get it to go down again is to close the app. It doesn't seem to make a difference whether I'm online or off.

Mar 10, 2009I've just got a new Macbook. I'm trying to transfer some files from one computer to the next. I get the box asking for me to accept and it looks like it's transfering the files. But nothing happens. It just does that forever with nothing being transferred. Is there a setting I'm missing? Also, is it possible to transfer folders? In the past I could only do single files at a time.
