I recently switched to an iMac and also in the process switched to verizon fios.
I have been unable to get the email set up in the mac mail.
Everything looks correct, however nothing will send...i think it has also stopped receiving email as well.
I'm running Mail on a G5 with 10.4.11, and have had Gmail, GoDaddy and .mac mail pushed through and sent out easily--until now. We switched to Fios, and while receiving mail is no problem, outgoing mail is terrible.
I have tried every possible outgoing mail server address in the Mail account preferences: the Gmail, GoDaddy and .mac ones, also outgoing.verizon.net. They all work sporadically. There seems to be lots of discussion of this problem out there, but no answer.
I am looking to watch live TV on my home office Mac Pro. I am confused in regards to how it all ties together. Here are a few details;

i have 2 monitors connected to the Mac Pro
i am not to interested in dvr functionality - just live tv
what are my options for porting tv from any of my verizon boxes to the office and watch it on one of the monitors ? SlingBoxHD, EYETV....?

I just "upgraded" to Fios. So far it seems pretty good. Downloads are relatively quick.
The reason I'm posting is because whenever I want to go to a new webpage, it takes forever and a day for said page to actually START loading on my browser. Is this a common issue with Verizon FIOS?

It takes an average of about 30 seconds for my browser to even begin loading the first few images of a web page. However, once it starts, it is crazy fast.
I timed/compared it with my parents AT&T DSL (1286 Kb/s DL) and it was actually faster HAHA! (when you factor in the wait time of beginning to load)
I'm thinking about getting FiOS when I move out and I just want to know if I can have internet on both my Mac and PC.
How do I install the router and what do I need to do on both computers to get them hooked up to the internet? Also, will I have to pay an additional fee to have an extra computer on FiOS?
I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to computers so I would appreciate replies in laymans terms or better yet step by step instructions.
Verizon FiOS is coming to my apartment complex within the next few weeks, and I am going to switch.
When I get the new service, I want to use an airport extreme router instead of the supplied Verizon router. The problem is the Verizon supplied router, unlike other routers, has both a coax and ethernet inputs.
From what I have heard, Verizon makes it a little tricky to circumvent using the stock router and switch to a router such as an airport extreme.
I ran some searches on the Verizon forums, and I received limited help. The help I received mainly regarded using the Verizon router as a bridge; however, I could not find any advice in terms of bypassing the router completely.
all my macs work with my Fios router except for my new mac mini.
when i try to connect to it, it asks for a password and then can't connect, giving me a "connection time out" alert.

I just got Verizon FiOS installed today, and I am looking to find out how to use my Airport Express as the router. I have it working like this...
FiOS router / modem (wireless turned off) >Ethernet> Airport Extreme WAN Port >Wireless> Computers.
It works, however ports are being blocked by the FiOS router, which I have forwarded on the Airport. How do I get the "raw" internet to go to the Airport?
I'd like to use my macbook upstairs, but I can't, because the default Verizon ActionTec router.
What could I use to extend the range for my macbook?
Before moving to the Mac Mini, I used a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1950 and my FIOS STB to watch tv on my HP Pavilion PC. That tuner is not Mac compatible. I'm not interested in anything fancy. My computer monitor is really large, making it useful to double as a tv, saving space in my sewing room for other toys. My wireless network is 5G and I have a Cisco E3000 router.

I have the newer, rounded model Verizon FIOS router.
There is a USB port on the back and I was wondering if I could use that to somehow connect my WD HD to it so that I can use it wirelessly for Time Machine back-up.
I would buy a Time Capsule or Airport Extreme, but the Verizon router is the central hub for my Internet, cable, and phone. And of course I'd save about $200 if I can do this too.
I am looking for an individual who can spend some time to carefully take me through the steps of piggybacking my Apple router off of my new Verizon router (pictured above).
I realize some of the process is discussed earlier in this thread but I found some of it difficult to follow, and I think I may have a newer Verizon router than what may have been previously discussed.
There are also some functions of this Verizon router that I cannot have disabled.

I switched from DirecTV to Verizon Fios this past week.
The tech who came to my home told me that I would need one of their routers if I wanted the DATA (channel
text information) transmitted to all the displays in my home.
This would mean, of course, my Airport Extreme Router would have to go.
Since switching to the Verizon MI424WR router, my Wifi signal at far ends of the
house constantly goes up and down. This was never a problem with the Apple router.
Need to Piggyback the Apple Router but not disable critical Verizon Functions
I need my Apple Airport Extreme router back.
Problem is, the Verizon router provides critical data information to all my displays. So,
hopefully there is a method that I can piggyback the Apple Router and turn off the Verizon
WiFi function without affecting its data transmission to the other televisions.
I recently had Fios installed and they provide a router/modem Actiontec M1424. I have it set up so I am still able to get wifi off my airport express since it provides faster wifi speeds. I am having a problem with xbox live.
I keep getting NAT moderate instead of open. I opened ports 3074 and 88 in airport utility but no luck. Is it because it is going through two routers?
Anyone have a similar setup and have an open nat? The reason I choose not to use the actiontec is because on live the connection is terrible but I have an open nat.
I will be getting my new Macbook Pro in the near future and am very interested in using Time Machine to wireless back up my data to an external hard drive. I know I can use Time Capsule to do this, but also hear a mention of just getting an Airport Extreme and my own ext. hd. My question is that I have Verizon FIOS Internet and my modem also functions as a wireless router. How would the Time Capsule/Airport Extreme work with this? Is it possible? I do not believe that the Verizon router supports wireless N, and I would like to take advantage of the faster speeds. If I were to connect a Airport Extreme to the wireless router, would I then have 2 routers to choose from and just use the Airport Extreme to use the wireless N? I'm very confused as to how I could make this work.

I am having a problem with making the router they supplied my default router.I am not trying to piggy back or connect additional routers. I just want to use the Fios router.Prior to Fios, I had Time Warner and i used my own router and as soon as I opened up my macbook, it would immediately find that router as my default. Now, with Fios, when i open my "Airport" icon at the top on my screen, it NEVER choses my Fios router as my default, making me change to it every time i want to use my internet after opening up my computer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I have not been able to send email using my Verizon outgoing server on the Lion email client. I can receive OK, but the server keeps rejecting something and a window pops up asking me to select a different SMTP server. Before I called Verizon, I decided to see if there were any free eMail clients I could use as a test and the new Eudora showed up when I did a "Bing" search.
I just installed Eudora and after a very quick setup, I sent a message using the Verizon server without any problem, the mail coming into both the Eudora and Lion mailboxes.So the problem is not with Lion, but with the Lion eMail client. I know Verizon does not officially support Macs, but since Eudora works, I have localized the issue to the standard Lion email client.
Anyone else have a similar experience with Verizon or some other ISP in not being able to send eMail?
First, Eudora is an answer. Second - I would like to resolve the problem with the Lion eMail client - it must be some obscure server setting. I know that it used to work, but I am not sure whether it was with Lion or Snow Leopard. Usually when I send an eMail, I use Cloud and was using MobileMe so I did not notice whether or not Verizon's SMTP server was working.
I noticed it today when I could not reply to an eMail that came in on one of my Verizon accounts.

I'm having trouble with my Apple Mail program. I have a number of e-mail accounts (some with Optimum online, a g-mail, yahoo, etc.) Apple Mail has no problem at all reading and downloading any mail from any of the services. My problem is with Optimum Mail (Optonline.net). Mail refuses to send anything through that set-up. I've been on the phone for hours with Optimum and the settings are all correct. I've tried connecting directly to the cable modem and mail gets sent. This would make me believe that it is the Apple Airport Extreme router that is at fault. I've tried restarting it, re-initializing it and setting it up again and the problem continues. All my Optimum mail is picked up and can be read but it will not send anything through Optimum. It asks if I want to send it through another server (like g-mail or yahoo) and if I pick yes the mail sends.
It happens on all my computers a G-3 and pre Intel iMac G-5 on Tiger and my Macbook on Leopard.
Anyone else hear of this problem? Both Apple support and Optimum online say they have never heard of it. Talking for hours with their tech departments have found no solutions.
For the last week I find that after sending an email with attachments that it remains in my draft box after sending. The mail shows up in the sent box, but it never get's deleted from the draft box until I resend it. This is happening on both my MBP and iMac. Both machines connect to iCloud for mail.

I am running Lion (latest ver) on my iMac (2011, i7), and have icloud set up to sync mail (and other stuff) with my iPhone 4. My iCloud account Sent Mail and Drafts are being syncronized between the cloud the iPhone, but not the iMac. So for example, I see 2 items in my Drafts folder when I log into icloud.com, and I see them in the drafts folder on iPhone mail, but they do not appear in the drafts folder for my iCloud account on Mail.app on the iMac. Also, I don't see emails I sent from icloud.com on my Mac's mail. I have iCloud enabled on the mac, and mail syncing is specifically turned on.

I have a Macbook Pro. It has OS 10.4 The mail program will open and the circle will start spinning like it is trying to "get mail." it will spin and spin and eventually close. It will pop up and say mail quit unexpectedly will show that report and reopen box. hen mail is open and the circle is spinning, you can send mail and it works fine. [that is mail.app, to help any one searching later on as Mail is too common a word to search for]. I've imported all my messages correctly but don't know how or if it's possible to import my account settings. Also: I'm in the process of migrating all my e-mails / mail accounts / settings and mail rules from Outlook Express to Mail [Mail.app]. I have successfully got all my e-mails across. I have also managed to convert all the e-mail addresses in the 50+ mail rules, as stored in the Windows registry, from hex into text.
Some of my rules have tens of e-mail addresses which if I had to add in each address separately would be a nightmare. Is there away of block adding in e-mail addresses to Mail? Also is it possible to manually edit the mail rules preference file(s) and insert the e-mail addresses into that? I'm aware I have to manually recreate the rules themselves but that's not so difficult. It's the adding back in of all the e-mail addresses that might be, given the large number that exist.
My husband's computers use Tiger and Leopard (10.5.8) to access his email on the Mail program. His mail is from Comcast and uses the Comcast server, not apple or iCloud. His mail suddenly stopped working a couple of days ago.....as it did on one of my machines that still uses Tiger. He had not done any updates that could have broken the software. He does not have iCloud except on his phone and he doesn't even have a .mac address. There is no reason for the comcast server to not be able to be accessed by Mail app. He did finally update everything that needed it and it still does not work. Why would Apple's change over to iCloud break email access from other servers and how can we fix it. He really doesn't want to do his mail on Comcast's web site as it's slow and awkward.

today i found that Mail has stopped working for no obvious reason.It wont send or receive emails, but when i check by signing into .mac itself, the messages have arrived and everything appears normal.Mail won't quit either... then every so often a box with the following text appears:'Some actions taken while the account 'enter.mac address here' was offline could not be completed online.Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox "on my mac" in "on my mac" so that you can complete the actions while online.Additional information: The connection to the server "mail.mac.com" on port 143 timed out.

I know that in Windows you can use Outlook to receive/request a return receipt when the receiver opens the e-mail. I believe that even using Microsoft Office Entourage '08 would work as well but I really want to stay all Apple applications if at all possible

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OS Lion (10.7.3) and in the last two weeks I face the following problem with the Mail application and my Yahoo mail account: although the account appears in the side bar of the application and it will search for new messages when I launch the Mail app, it doesn't load any messages and I also realised that all Mailboxes of the named account are blank! The messages appear normally when I reach my account through the Yahoo page! I tried to remove and re-import the account in the Mail app, but it just worked for two days and now the Mailboxes are blank again! I have no problems with the other two mail accounts I reach through the same application (both POP accounts).
