MacBook Pro :: Can't See All Menu Items
Sep 12, 2014
When I use Autodesk Maya, I find that there are so many menu items that they don't all display. I can hide some of the defaults e.g. battery, volume etc but I don't like hiding them. Is there anyway to get them all to display or any plugin that adds a second bar.

I bought a new MacBook Pro Wednesday and the items on the right side of the menu bar go away and then come back every so often. This just started and I don't like it. The clock and wifi and all the other things are gone.
How do I get these back? Thanks Oh this is running Leopard, it didn't come with Snow Leopard.

I have been dealing with AppleCare and they seem to be a little stumpted, so I am going to try everyone else.
When I boot up, I no longer get the items in the menu bar like date, time, wireless, bluetooth status, etc.
In the Apple Menu, things like "About this Mac", reboot, shut down, etc. Do nothing.
System Preferences gives me a beachball.
I have just recently did a CLEAN install. The install worked fine.
I then changed the time to EST and updated to 10.5.7. I did not do all the other updates...wanted to take it slow.
I am back to the issue again!
There is nothing installed on this computer other than Leopard!
It is a 15" Macbook Pro 4GB memory, Intel processor...etc.
At first Apple thought a 3rd party app may have corrupted some preferences. This can not be the case....
Thoughts? Could it be bad hardware??? The machine is just over 2 years old.

I was playing with the "sudo" command & the entire system was erased , at least I learnt something new, so I reinstalled the whole thing. I noticed before there was my name displayed on the menu bar, now I don't see it. It's not an important issue but I just wonder why & how to fix it, or how to customize it.

After the latest update from mac this week all of my menu items on the upper right side of the window are gone. Clock, airport, sound, all of it. Have done everything from re-install to tech tool pro, to disk permission repair, called Apple, deleted old preferences, deleted possible conflicts.... you name it.

It would be very useful if you could customise the contents of the "Go" menu found throughout the Finder. The possibility of adding apps/utilities or folders (with keyboard shortcuts) would be brilliant! Is there any way of doing so?

I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.8, one of the 2008 black/white models. Yesterday, I was messing around with my computer because the hard drive will not show up in the finder (I already did the system preferences, doesn't work). However, I guess I must have deleted something because when I restarted my computer, the menu bar blinks in and out unless i get onto safari but I can't get into finder at all. Also, All of my items on my desk top are gone. And I can't get into Itunes (file locked, on a locked disk, or do not have written permission to enter it)
I'm assuming this means I need to take it in and get it fixed. But I wanted to see if I can do anything to avoid that because I am in college and have a paper every week so I pretty much live off of my computer.

When my Mac boots it opens load of apps in my menu bar (InsomniaX, iAlertU, LogMeIn, EverNote) this is annoying, uses memory (probably) and it makes it look cluttered how do i stop them from loading.
I have checked the preferences in each app and there is nothing there and there is nothing in Login items in accounts in system prefs.

I am having a bit of an issue. I understand that holding down command, clicking on an OS X menu bar item and dragging right or left will allow me to reposition the menu bar items. However, how do I do this with third party applications?
I can only reposition Leopard's menu bar items. Does anyone have any ideas that they would be willing to share?

I am wondering if there is a way to decrease the space between menu items (the things on the right side of the menu bar). There is so much wasted space between them, especially the battery percentage and the time.
Also, if anyone knows of a way to kill some of the unnecessary 3rd party menu items that don't have an option in their preferences to not display the menu item.

For some reason when I try to activate some menu bar items, they won't stay active long enough for me to write or click a button. For example, when I click on the Fantasical calendar app, I can write and schedule a calendar event, but when I launch say the small window in the menu bar for Day One diary, it won't stay open. When I use the keyboard shortcut to activate Alfred, the app launcher, that window also won't stay open in order for me to write my input. I hope this is coming across clear. If need be I can do a screen capture to illustrate the problem. This is very annoying, and I really need to fix it. I ran disk repair a couple of times, but I don't know what else to do.

Lately, my iMac (Snow Leopard, mid 2007) is beachballing quite much and I just discovered one problem with Finder. I have to Move To Trash options (see attachment). I wonder what that comes from and if it could be the reason of the beach balls.

When opening a Mail message with any sort of scripting, many of the menu items remain greyed out, including the one that's important to me, 'Save Attachments...'.
If I manually open the same message, the menu items are enabled.
Try this script, by resetting the mailbox name to one of your own mailboxes, and you'll see what I mean.
(I've lodged a bug report).

So with the whole Flashback/Flashfake thing I paniced (stupid on my part) ran a virus program called VirusBarrier Express and ran CCleaner (again, stupid me). Hoping I would clear off unused or harmful files I apparently in the process messed up my context menu. Items that were previously in the context menu are now gone. I did as much reading about possible fixes as I could and this is where everything stands.
Not every item in the image below was at the botton of the context menu, but iPack certainly was as well as various other menu items that have since dissapeared.
While searching the internet I came across a suggestion leading me to "library/Contextual Menu Items" and when I followed that directory for both my user and system I couldn't find a Contextual Menu Items folder. There wasn't any. I've had this "missing file/folder" problem before with preference files; just a side note.
I created the folder manually and restarted with no change at all.
Obviously I accidentally deleted something that shouldn't have been deleted. Is there any way to get back those missing items?

I've realized that sometimes I "lose" my wireless signal. I am not using an AirPort router (I'm using Linksys, if that's at all helpful). I've noticed that suddenly all of the wireless signals disappear from the AirPort menu up on the menu bar, except the network that I am connected to (i.e., I only see my router's name there). It also becomes impossible for me to browse the internet, so what I've done to troubleshoot this is disable the AirPort, put the computer to sleep, and disconnect/reconnect my router. When I turn it on, it seems to work. I've also tried simply disabling and then re-enabling AirPort, but it doesn't work after that.

Any time I try to remove an icon from the dock or an item from the login items and then logout/restart they come right back. It's like OS X is remembering my last login and then just duplicating it. I can't get it to keep it the settings I give it. Google and a quick search of the forums gave me nothing.

My own account login items list in my systems preferences window is limited to one item- an istat menus helper app. But my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder contains two items that I don't recognize and don't think have much to do with starting up the computer. One is a Qmaster folder and another is named RDUSB00A3Startup. Each folder contains a few items, including a unix executable file and a plist file. My mac hd/system/library/StartupItems folder is empty. Can anyone please advise on whether the items in my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder are necessary and if deleting them could affect my computer? I don't use Qmaster and have no idea what the RDUSB00A3Startup folder is for.

my "services" menu has disappeared as an option in finder. When I try to access it by right-clicking a finder item (folder or file), it's just plain missing. However if I look for it under the finder menu bar, the arrow beside service says 'building'. But I've been waiting for hours and it doesn't look like anything's happening.

I recently bought myself a Macbook Pro 13-inch model and I've been loving it so far. One thing that really bugs me is how bad the menu navigation is in OS X. I just read this on Macrumors and the only way to access menu from keyboard is by using ctrl+F2 key for which I have to press ctrl+fn+f2 key since F2 is a secondary function. Also, there is no way of going directly to the middle of the menu by keyboard shortcuts, right? If that is true, Mac OS X is still not polished enough for laptops. is there are a better way to control the menu items?
