MacBook Air :: Free Up Space On Startup Disk?

Apr 19, 2012

I'm getting a message my startup disk is full. My macbook air is not even a year old and when I check my storage status, my media, applications and files make up for less than a tenth of my content. However, I have nearly 110GB of "Other" type stuff that is occupying my disk. I have had no luck searching for the source of these "other" files in my Finder and all the Youtube videos and internet question responses have not helped me.

Apr 16, 2012

I am getting a message that my startup disk is almost full. My HDD is roughly 500GB and 327GB are free. Doesn't make much sense to me. Something strange in one of the latest updates? Is there some setting I need to change in order to open up more memory for system files?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Deleting Files Does Not Free Up Space On Hard Disk

May 14, 2012

I am deleting large amounts of files / directories with 10s of GB of disk usage from my internal hard disk. Then I empty the trash. But I don't get more free space on my hard disk! I am not using File Vault.(I also believe that my file system is not corrupt.) This is quite annoying, since I am still unable to copy stuff on my internal hard disk, but given the amount of files I have just deleted, I should be able to do so.

PS:MacBook Pro, 10.7.3, very recent model, 500 GB internal hard disk.

Info:iPhone 4S, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

OS X :: Why Doesn't Mac Delete Unnecessary Files After Removing Programs

Aug 18, 2009

It seems that whenever I uninstall an application, there is always an empty folder of the program I uninstalled in Library>Application Support and possibly others. Why wouldn't OS X delete those automatically after I uninstalled them? They obviously don't take up too much space cause it's just an empty folder, but why doesn't os x automatically delete it?

MacBook Pro :: Why Doesn't Disk Space Free Up After Moving Files To An External Drive

Feb 28, 2012

I have a 750GB internal HD but film a lot of movies. To free up space, I have moved my iMovie clips off to a secondary hard drive, but I have not seen my free disk space free up on my Macbook pro. Why is this? I moved, not copied the files. They only show now on the external hard drive. I am looking at the free space in Finder > Get Info. I have easily moved a few hundred GB off to the new drive, but my internal HD still shows as over 500Gb used.
