Software :: Unable To Restore Addresses In Book
Jun 23, 2008
There's help files on backing up addresses, but I can't find anything to restore addresses. I deleted a LOGIN and all the information was saved in a deleted folder. Great. I just remembered I had set up a specific folder in the address book and would like to retrieve those addresses. I the deleted folder from that LOGIN are folders such as: Library/Application Support/Addressbook/Addressbook.data, XXXX.data.previous, Lastimport.plist. I don't want to overwrite my other addressbook. I just want to get about fifteen names from this old LOGIN user. Any way to do this? I tried import (all three) and no text, delimited, vcards, etc. was the answer.

I am using a second hard drive with OSX and I am wondering where the addresses are on the other hard drive. Can I import them to the address book on my other hard drive. Can I import my emails from the one mail app to the other hard drive also.

I have an iMac OS X (10.6.8). In MAIL, is there a simple way to save the Cc: addresses, in a received message, to my Address Book? In other words, the option "Add Sender To Address Book" is readily available, but is there a similar option for saving Cc: addresses, such as "Add A Cc: Recipient To Address Book", or "Add All Cc: Recipients To Address Book"?

I run iMac OS X version 10.5.2. Have the usual Mac Mail program, working through Embarq. There is also an email program installed by the Mac staff where I bought machine, which works off Safari, which has been set to open its first page on the Embarq page. Finally, also on advice of Mac staff, I have email program in Thunderbird from Mozilla. That seems easiest to use, but all the files holding addresses and group lists are on one of the other two. Have tried to move them to Thunderbird. No luck. Wont work. Would like to combine them all on Thunderbird. Could someone suggest if this is possible, so as to avoid adding new addresses (over 400 at this point) one at a time?

A friend of mine got his first mac, an iMac and wants to EASILY transfer his hotmail email addresses into the OSX "Address Book" app. There's got to be an easy way to do this so he can avoid transferring them in one by manually.

My sister has former eMail addresses which are no longer functional. They are NOT in the Address Book app. Yet one of them always comes up as the default. Yes, her current address is already in the Address Book app. I'd like some way to permanently delete her two non-functional addresses from system memory.Â

I recently added new names with their email addresses in "Address Book" - picked the Group I wanted and then clicked the + sign under Names and entered the info in the space to the right. I had already created a mailbox for each name and had gone through Mailbox-Preferences-Rules to have emails from or to routed to the correct boxes [which it did when I clicked on "Apply" at the end of this process]. All this to show what I did prior to choosing "New Message" in Email. When I got the blank email page, I clicked on the Address Book icon above to retrieve the address I wanted and only the names of the people I had entered were displayed, NOT their email addresses.  I then restarted the computer - still the same. How do I get the addresses to show up?

I recently discovered that many random email addresses are being added to my address book. The majority is junk and is clogging my address book with entries that could possibly be spam addresses. First off, is there something I inadvertantly turned on? Is there a way to disable this feature? I have installed one tool called Attachment Tamer (ver3.0.10 from Lokiware) but this does not seem to have anything relevant. Â

Many records in my address book have multiple email addresses. No big deal but I wonder if there is a way to tell Address Book / Mail which address to pick as the default.Â
For example I send a litttle news email one a week to a group of contacts. I want to send this email to people's personal -- not business -- email address. I've created a group in Address Book and type that group name in my Mail to line and the group pops up. But a few of the records pick the corporate address and I have to go in and change those addresses.Â
I just tried editing one record ... I deleted both "work" and "home" addresses from a record. Then reentered them "home" first, "work" second. But when I closed the edit Address Book listed them in the original order (maybe alpha).Â

I have had this issue with my address book for a while in that it creates new entries with just an email address as the actual entry and then hundreds of other email addresses from address book as this entry's additional email addresses.Â
At the same time I had an issue with Apple Mail that I thought was unrelated but now I am not that sure anymore. When I turn Apple Mail on, it sends out emails that look like an endless chain of responses (spam) to the same email that advertises all kinds of stuff.Â
When I first noticed the issue I turned Mail off (a year ago). After updating to Lion I tried to use mail again but had the same issue and have not been using it since. But I appear to still find new entries in my address book all the time.Â
I ran some software (ClamX) but wasn't able to find any malware so far. I can't imagine someone hacking into my machine and doing all this my hand. For what?Â
So I am wondering whether anyone has had similar symptoms on their Mac?

I just converted to imac but have a little problem with Entourage.
Basically I want to automatically add all SENT addresses to my address book, but Entourage does not do this. I looked up the web and there is a software patch but this captures ALL addresses which will result in an address book full of garbage.

How long should I be stuck on the screen "calculating space required to restore data"? I've been on this screen for about 20, 30 minutes. The "hash mark wheel" is spinning, but just not seeing anything new. Is this normal? My backed up data is ~100 GB.

Since upgrading to 10.6.5 I have had DNS problems.Whilst nslookup and ping will resolve the DNS names to their correct IP addresses, safari and other services won't.
The problem seems to be related purely to CNAME entries which are in a different forward lookup zone to the A record.
For instance if we had a forward lookup zone of foo.bar and an A record of www going to 10.1.1.15 (www.foo.bar = 10.1.1.15) and then a CNAME record of go in a zone bloo.by (go.bloo.by = www.foo.bar) then ping and nslookup will resolve go.bloo.by to 10.1.1.15 but it seems safari can't.

I've searched the forums but still can't find the answer I'm looking for. This morning, I tried something on my iPhone called MyPhone+ which syncs my contacts on my phone with my Facebook account. This was all well and good, until I realized that it overwrote all the address information. which then went to mobileme, and then overwrote everything on my mac. SO, I looked in Time Machine, and my address book is perfect as of 6:00 am this morning. I selected that point in time, and clicked the RESTORE button, but nothing changes. Is it not possible to restore the data in address book to a point in time from the Time Machine backups?

I have lost all of my address book contacts. I have done a search for AddressBook.data and can't find any files. There are only two variables I can name that may be at fault. One, I deleted the Address Book widget from my Dashboard the other day. Two, I installed Snow Leopard on Friday. Any ideas of how I can find my lost data? I went into my Time Machine and I can't seem to find it, even in past copies.

I am running OS 10.3.9 on a G3 iBook 600MHz. I've backed up my entire HD to a 80GB Fantom external drive. Since then, I've managed to lose my Address Book in its entirety. I'm 86 years old, senile, and to save my life I can't figure out how to transfer my saved Address Book from my external drive to my computer's HD. I've read the Fantom User's Guide until my eyeballs were ready to fall out, but I still can't make head or tail of what I'm reading. I have Carbon Copy Cloner installed on my machine. If there is one soul out there who can restore me to peace and harmony, I'd love to hear from him or her.

My Address Book won't restore contacts from my address book archive (.abbu).I sync my address book with iCloud.A couple weeks ago Address Book told me there were some inconsistancies in my contacts. It said that 12 of my contacts were outdated; the "updated" versions that it presented were actually versions that were older by several weeks or months.I exported my correct contacts as a .abbu file.I also back up with Time Machine so I should have a good copy there. I deleted a "bad" contact from my Address Book, and then tried to import the .abbu file, the contact I deleted appeared for a second and then disappeared.I then deleted my entire Address Book.I tried again to import the .abbu file. All the contacts appeared for a second and then disappeared. This happen when iCloud was added in perferences and syncing and when it wasn't. Deleting the file AddressBook folder in ~/ApplicationSupport/ also didn't help.

I deleted some important contacts from my Address Book, which is synched with iCloud, recently.I restored my Address Book from a Time Machine back up which had the important addresses still included. But every time I open Address Book on my MacBook, it tries to synch with iCould, which is missing the contacts and therefore immediately deletes them.I have turned iClound sync off in my System Preferences, but because the Address Book Time Machine backup I am trying to restore from has iCloud 'enabled' in the Address Book preferences, every time I open it, it resets my System Preferences back to syncing Address Book with iCloud and it deletes the contacts I am trying to restore upon the application start up.How do I actually restore Address Book from a Time Machine back up and keep iCloud from overwriting that?

I've just been inputing email addresses into my Mac Address Book. One email at a time. All of a sudden it wipe every email address in then (over 4000) and left 2.
It wiped out all the Group Folders I had in there as well. Basically all I can view now is the 2 emails, nothing else. I've found some of the emails (only 50 or so) in a Recovered Files folder in the Trash.
