I have two users on my Mac Mini; myself and the missus. I want to transfer my address book contents from my account to hers. I have tried exporting vcards and Address Book archive, but I can't get either to upload properly on to her address book.

I tried synchronising my iPhone to the MacPro but then lost all the content on the iPhone. I managed to get it back using the restore. This means the only content I have for Address Book and iCal sits on my iPhone!

if you have done this before, can you advise what's the best way to export microsoft outlook contacts to mac?
I tried to export the contacts in CSV format but when I imported the file into Mac address book, many fields are missing.
Someone suggests to email contacts out as vCards to myself and open the email from Mac and drag the contacts to the address book. I haven't tried yet but just wonder what's the best way??
I finally updated my Mac from Leopard 10.5.8 to 10.6. I got all the latest updates (10.6.8) and am still transferring my apps but having trouble with Apple's Address Book and iCal. I did an export from both on my 10.5 OS then tried importing them into the respective apps under 10.6  When I try that iCal it says "nothing changed". Address Book just hangs. I still have my old 10.5 OS installation on another drive in my Mac Pro and can boot into it if necessary.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOk so I got my new MBA which I'm typing on right now and I love it (I need to update my sig...). I got my most important data over, but all I need are my address book contacts and iTunes playlists and song/movie/tv show ratings.
I copied my contacts from Application Support under Libraries. They are under Address Book in the folders "Metadata" and "Images". All the things in Metadata seem to be vCards, but when I double click one to open it, it just opens Address Book and nothing happens.
Also, when I transferred my iTunes stuff over, everything's perfect except I'm missing all my song and album ratings (488 albums and 4226 songs, all hand-rated). I'm also missing my playlists which are VERY important.
I have a backup of my whole hard drive from my MBP so I should be able to access these files, but does anyone know how or where? I copied over my whole music folder in Finder and I'm still missing my playlists and ratings
I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard, but the computer has some hardware problems and I need to send it in for repair (it won't wake up or boot). It is entirely backed up with Time Machine, and I would like to transfer the calendar and contact data from it to my PowerBook that is running OS X 10.4.
I managed to export an icbu file (iCal) and abbu (Address Book) file from the MBP, but when I try to add them to the PB's iCal and Address Book, I get an error message. The raw data in the Library folder seem to be in a different format as well. Is there any other way to transfer the data?

Despite the fact I got home close to midnight and had to be up for 0430 for work, I just couldn't let this new machine sit in the box it was sitting there asking me to open the content. Me being the obedient women that I am I had to follow my heart.I opened the laptop, powered it, looked at it, admired my new lighted keypad and....went to bed. So my issue is this. Using a G4 IBOOK with OS 10.5.8. Recently converted IBOOK from just my wifes computer to both of us so it is now dual usuage with both of us signing in to our respective files/e-mail, etc. My side has a problem never experienced before. My apple mail system address book has all the names the dock address book does but is missing almost 2/3rd of the actual e-mail addressess. I have tried to redo the dock address book in hopes it would change the "internal" mail book, but to no avail. It id difficult to add a recipient to an outgoing e-mail via the dock address instead of the apple mail address book.

Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed. Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.Â
Am I missing the secret handshake in this process? Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?Â
Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?" This issue is only the tip of my iceberg. The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.Â

I have to edit every new entry and change all the fields from "other" to "work." This appears to happen when I "grab" phone or email info from an email message.

I've just been inputing email addresses into my Mac Address Book. One email at a time. All of a sudden it wipe every email address in then (over 4000) and left 2.
It wiped out all the Group Folders I had in there as well. Basically all I can view now is the 2 emails, nothing else. I've found some of the emails (only 50 or so) in a Recovered Files folder in the Trash.
I've discovered an extremely irritating bug in OS X. If you're using the trackpad when copying a file from the filelist in Finder to the sidebar, if your finger accidentally slips off the pad, the file disappears! It doesn't go to the sidebar, and it doesn't remain where it was originally. Great undocumented feature of OS X.
Anyway, since the file I was trying to copy was addressbook.app, I can't run the addressbook anymore. I've read where the only way to reinstall the addressbook is to reinstall OS X entirely including all the updates that have been installed previously. Does anyone know of a way that I can just reinstall that one application instead of having to go through the reinstallation of the entire OS?
I tried using an SD card and that didn't work. Tried Migration Asst with firewire and that didn't work. One of those probably will work, I figure I am just doing some wrong. I just want to move the address book and nothing else. With migration asst I just checked folders and apps.

I had about 30 accounts that I call on that were listed as Company that all of a sudden showed up in my address book as either NoName or NoEmail. I found the solution to fixing this was to go to each address listed and tic the little box next to the word Company under First Last name. Luckily, I only had about 30 of these to manually fix, I feel sorry for those who have 100's of names to fix. You probably wonder why I did not have the Company box checked, well in all honesty, it did not matter whether you did or not under OS X Leopard, now for some reason some programmer thought it necessary to make it necessary to check the company box.
