After my upgrade to OS X 10.5.5 I have the problem that my CPU only uses 20-30% but still gets very hot, and finally my computer shuts down. I have iStats Pro that also shows that both of my fans is working and going crazy spinning up to 6000 rpm just because the CPU is 75� C.
Got a 4 year old 15" PowerBook with a small history of battery issues. Its on its 3rd battery that is on its last leg. It can't be unplugged for more than 5 seconds or it shuts off...been this way for months. Well today it shut off and won't turn back on. Do I buy yet another battery or is my pb dead?

My Mac Pro display shuts down on me and goes into a kind of sleep mode but will not wake up, the monitor says there is no connection. This happens during playing video games or browsing the internet on both the mac and pc side. I thought it was the video card (gt 8800) so I bought a new card through apple (ati 4870), after installing the new card yesterday the problem came up again.

My iMac (21.5") turn off by itself and it doesn't turn on until I unplug the AC from the back and let it rest for at least half hour!!! If I try to turn it on I only get fan and drive noise but no screen at all... The longest time I let it rest, the more time that I can use it. I already reset PRAM. I'm runing 10.6.3 and the biggest software I use is ArchiCAD 13...
Does anybody have a similar issue with his/her iMac?

whenever i use my dvd the i mac shuts down, like i pulled the plug. No report, no evidence of somthing crashing. Either burning a DVD or copying the files to the desktop causes the same problem. I just re istalled mac osx the problem insists.

I bought a new battery, which works fine, but the problem persists. The computer does never tell me that battery is low or anything; it simply shuts down at 10% without warning and I can't seem to be able to do anything about it.

First, my MacPro did not accept my password. Earlier, our building had three power drops in a row, seconds apart. I don't know if this affected my computer accepting my password.Since then, my computer starts to boot up then suddenly shuts down. Is there some way I can boot up and get to admin controls?

Starting today my Powermac has shut off suddenly a few times in ~15-20 minute intervals. When I have many applications open simultaneously the computer is especially prone to this.
I have never had this happen before in the 3+ years of using this Powermac, and the only differences I can see are that I've switched to a different ISP (I switched from earthlink DSL to Comcast cable), and I now have 4 computers wired in to my 4 port switch router. After turning on my computer I also noticed that my router requires a reset and the internet doesn't work until I do that.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a G4 Power Mac. It's the "digital audio" model that has been upgraded with a 1.2Ghz G4 processor. It works well except for one thing. It shuts down randomly and suddenly. Then after 5 or 10 minutes it turns itself back on, reboots and runs fine. (It is set to re-boot after a power failure.)I suspect what is happing is the power supply is turnning itself off due to some kind of a thermal, self protection switch. The fan seems to work but the PS gets warm.What's the cure? Replace the power supply? If so where to get a new(er) one?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI hadn't been using sleep mode on my iMac G5 for a while (but it always worked previously to me setting it to "never"), and now yesterday when I turned the sleep mode back on, it has decided it wants to shut down instead of sleep. But it's not a nice shutdown...it just powers itself off, as if it was unplugged. It always boots back up with no problems.

My MacBook suddenly shuts down in the middle of my work. Shut down as in a sudden shut down, as if the battery was removed. There is no shutdown process, the whole screen just goes black. I've realized that this happens more recently when watching youtube videos, playing flash games etc.
Example : Computer dies in 10 minutes when watching videos/playing games. Computer dies in a few hours or NEVER when just typing, surfing.
It doesn't seem to be a battery problem. I've removed the battery and had my Macbook run on the Charger before, and it still died on me...

I have a power pc and recently installed some new RAM. All worked fine for a few weeks then the computer randomly shut down. I would turn it back on and it would chime but shut down again before it was finished booting. Thinking this was the new RAM I took it out and rebooted. All was fine. To cut a long story short, I now get this problem with any configuration of old RAM and/or new RAM and to allow the computer to boot successfully I have to at least take out a RAM card and then put it back where it came from...
It seems though the new RAM did trigger something but this now happens no matter what RAM is in there. Also, taking RAM out seems to reset something that makes it start up OK. Any ideas what could could causing this..?
I recently updated to snow and since then have had problems turning off mac. I've reset pram, tried unplugging externals, tried logging out, then shutting down, but every time I hit apple-shutdown it goes black, and reboots. I can put it the screen to sleep with hot corners, but never turns off unless I manually hold down power.

When I first got it, it seemed to work perfectly in every way, but the hard disk wasn't very big so I tried to install a new (larger) one. Everything seemed to go fine, but after the upgrade, the computer would only stay powered on for about 10 minutes before shutting itself off. I assumed that it was a problem with the hard disk, so I put the old one back, but the problem persisted. It will only stay powered on for a maximum of about 20 minutes before blinking off and then it has to sit for a while before I can get another 20 miutes out of it

Safari randomly shuts down while in the middle of browsing. The rainbow loading icon will appear and then all windows and tabs will close. Then it gives me the option to report or ignore the problem. This happens at least once every day. Also, Software Update does not load. It just says "The Software Update Server (appleupdate.iu.edu) is not responding."

I have a late 2010 MacBook Air.Unfortunately, I'm in a country without an Apple store or any kind of official Apple support (no phone number to call).
2 days ago, I plugged in a little USB modem device (wireless is rare here) and my laptop shut down suddenly. It refused to restart at all until I did an SMC reset and then it was working fine (including with the USB modem plugged in).
However, the next day, the same shut-down occurred (when I plugged in the modem again) and now SMC reset is not doing anything. I've held down the start button for a very long time and there aren't any signs of life. The light on the charger shows that it is charging when I plug it in.
