Software :: Installing MB Leopard On Mini
Aug 2, 2008
I've got an Intel Mini and bought the original Leopard discs for an upgrade on Ebay but they're for a Macbook. I didn't realize OS X 10.5 cared what machine they are used on. So now I"ve paid all this money for useless discs. Is there any way of installing a Macbook version of Leopard on my Intel Mini? It says it can't install. I was wondering if I moved the data from the DVD's to an external hard drive would it work? Then maybe I could delete the files that check for the machine type?

My 2008 mini has slowed down to a crawl so im thinking of installing a 120gb ssd into it and installing snow leopard (ive already maxed out the ram). My mini came with tiger with an update to leopard. If I want to install snow leopard do i need to install tiger, then upgrade to leopard and then snow leopard, or can i just install snow leopard immediately. I will be purchasing the 120gb ssd from OWC as well as snow leopard this week, so appreciate any help.

I recently purchased a G4 Mini (1.42Ghz I think) with 512Mb Ram for use as a second computer. It works fine with Tiger as it is, but I can get Leopard from my uni at a reduced cost, so.... I was wondering if anyone's been working with it on the lowest recommended Ram? Does it run OK? I'm loathed to take it apart unless I really have to as it's perfectly functional.

had a mac mini hd fail - 3 months from new, light use - and so have just fitted a new sata drive and am trying to install the os from the dvd. It always fails on a random package midway through - failed to verify package, or some such.
I bought another mini, anticipating trouble fixing the first - but i note that it won't let me install from the os dvd's from the new machine! I also have a time-machine external connected to the new mini. I could also link the new and the old via firewire, i believe.
So my question is - how do I get an OS onto the new HD, given the flakyness of the old mini's os dvd's?

I'm having a beast of a time trying to get 10.6 to install on an older mac mini.... The installation proceeds in the usual way - but after about 15 minutes the installation stalls with some sage words to the effect that 'installation failed because support files cannot be copied' - or something to that effect.
I'm thinking one of a number of things could be wrong:
1) The dvd drive is dodgy
2) the SL dvd is dodgy
3) the hard drive is dodgy
My question is this. Does anybody have any idea of what to try ? - I'm thinking along the lines of a minimal SL install, reformat the drive, partition the drive, anything to try and get the minimal set of files on there.... can I try and make a disk image or something ?
Incidentally, when I go to 'customize' the install (uncheck the printer, languages, X11 etc.) - I'm left with the 'greyed out ' Essential system software which shows a size of 8Gb..... but I recently did the same thing on a Macbook and the Essential system files for SL came to a mere 3.5 Gb.... Any idea why this install to the Mac Mini is 8Gb

I am so frustrated! This is the fourth webcam I've tried. I have downloaded drivers and nothing ever works.
This is the GearHead Quick 8.0 MP Auto Focus Webcam. I put in the cd and it came up with the Webcam Driver. One says setup.exe and one says autorun.inf Obviously the .exe didn't work and the autorun.inf pulled up text edit. I tried to go on the website and download the driver and it gives me the same things. I just don't know what to do!!

I know this has been touched on on other threads, but this is a unique situation. So I have snow leopard server on my mac mini. I can't figure out for the life of me how to get things working that I know how to do on the regular version. I only have one copy of SL and it is the install usb dongle from the new MBA. It has 10.6.5 on it. I tried plugging it in to my usb on the macmini and got as far as the installation screen that asks me to choose a language. Once I get past there, it says that I can't install this on the computer. Anyone know how I can get server off my mac mini and get SL normal version on it via this usb stick?

I have a Ubuntu iso cd made and have tried making a dual boot but after rebooting after the install it comes up to a long list of errors and then reboots to the apple log in screen. Has any one on here used Ubuntu in dual boot or on it's own on a mac mini. Just wondering what I may be doing wrong?

Are there any downfalls if I install one 2GB RAM (Crucial) with the one that came with the Mac Mini (early 2009)?
Because I heard that if I use 4GB, I only get like 3.3GB.
So instead of spending $70 for 2/2GB, I should just get a single 2GB and install it with the regular one that the Mini came with.
Any problems with doing this?
Heres Link to Crucial:[URL]

I bought the mac mini server to use as a computer in my truck. I bought the server version because it has two hard drives in it. How should I go about installing windows 7 on it? I tried installing windows from a bootable flash drive but that didn't work as it wasn't visible at startup.

I have an early 2009 Mac mini and the 120GB hard drive is starting to get a little cramped. Especially since I'm now keen to get Windows installed on there as well. So I was hoping to upgrade myself. I've already opened the mini and added memory so I'm confident enough with that. I just need to know what I need to be aware of when upgrading. For example, will ant 2.5" SATA disk do the trick? I was thinking of this one:[URL:...]

I have a tower Mac Pro with Snow Leopard running on it.Unfortunately one of the software that I use doesn't have yet a Snow Leopard update. So I am thinking maybe I can install older version of Leopard on one of the internal drives (i have 3 additional internal drives), so I can boot my computer from either Leopard or Snow Leopard, depending on needs (i don't want to get rid of Snow Leopard).
I never installed OS X system before, so I am a bit scared. The internal drive is ready, I have the old Leopard on disks, what are the next steps to take?

I'm trying to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on to my macbook but I keep getting this error.
"mac os x installation couldn't be completed" I get this message usually within 5 minutes of installation.
My macbook specs are...
Mac OS X Version 10.5.8, 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
I've already tried repairing the disks. (I repaired my leopard with the snow leopard CD because I couldn't find the leopard CD.
I heard it was fine to do.) I would have tried to verify and repair the partition but the buttons seemed to be grayed out for some reason.
Here is the error log...

Is there any way to work around this problem:
I just bought the Leopard family pack for my Mac Pro and my 1 Ghz PowerBook 12". I loaded Leopard onto the Mac Pro with no problem--but when I tried to install it on the PB 12", I discovered that my PowerBook's DVD player has died. (There had been some indications of flakey behavior over the past few months, and none of the other DVDs I tried would work--they would just get ejected.)
My question is this: is there any other way to install Leopard onto my PB without using the DVD? I do have a working DVD player on the Mac Pro, as well as a myriad of hard drives and iPods that could be used in disk mode.

i recently purchased an intel imac off craigslist. i want to do a fresh install of leopard on it (it already has leopard installed, i just want to get all the old info and programs off of it). the problem is that it didn't include any of the original discs. i know that technically i should buy a retail version of it but i don't feel morally obligated to since it already had leopard legally installed (flame if you must). i don't want to go to the time and effort to download a copy of the dvd from various unsavory sources so what i'm wondering is if it's possible to make a bootable partition on an external drive from one of my other macs then copy it onto the imac. and if so, how?

From what I've read, Leopard is the first Apples first truly Universal OS, thus the basis for this question.
The OS is Leopard Server, the Mac(s) are a dual 500MHz Powermac G4, and a 2.0 Core Duo Macbook Pro.
The OS does not want to install on the Powermac, it comes back with issues no matter what I do.
So, could I install Leopard Server on my Powermac by putting it into Target Disk Mode and installing it via my MBP?
