View 1 RepliesSo far I've downloaded Toast 10 Titanium, because I heard that I need it to assist me with this, but basically what my problem is, is that I have a program that needs a CD to run it, but instead of a CD I have .iso images. Basically I need to know how to mount the .iso images onto my desktop as a CD so I can run my program successfully.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI created an ISO9660 DVD image using mkisofs on my Debian box, and transferred it over the network to my G4 using ftp, instead of burning to DVD, since the G4 does not read +R media. Having transferred the file, I found that I was unable to mount it using "hdiutil mount dyn-fxpbfd2d1.iso", getting "hdiutil: mount failed - not recognized". Running "file dyn-fxpbfd2d1.iso" correctly gives "dyn-fxpbfd2d1.iso: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'BFD2_DVD1'". I get the correct sum with MD5 so it is not getting corrupted. Why on earth can't Mac OS X mount the iso? I have experience with other BSD systems. Is there an equivalent to the mdconfig command to create a vnode, rather than the horribly inexpressive hdiutil mount command?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to make CD image and copy it to the harddisk and mount it as though it was a CD - so that programs requirering to read from CD would know?
I have some software (legally purchased!) that I use frequently and I would like not be required to carry the CD with me all the time - plus my PB is noisy when accessing the CD compared to the harddrive.
Been trying to create a CD image mounted on my Desktop, as to load the program it needs to know that the CD is in the optical drive of the MacBook Air. But the program doesn't actually use the CD, its just verifying that I own a copy. Is there anyway I could start the program without actually having the CD in my drive? Anyway of making the Computer think that the CD is actually present, such as mounting the CD image on the Desktop?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded Transmission, and whenever I open the program, the disc image mounts on the desktop. I can't eject it until I quit the program, and then it always pops back up when I reopen the program.

When I mount a DVD movie image, finder is auto opened for that image and I see the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders.
Is there a way to NOT have that finder window auto pop up every time?
Apparently, there are two ways to convert disk images in CDR format to ISO format:
1. Rename diskimage.cdr to diskimage.iso
Or
2. hdiutil makehybrid -iso -joliet -o diskimage.iso diskimage.cdr
The first method is really quick while the second method takes quite a long time. Do the two methods yield the same ISO file? In particular, I would like to convert a bootable CDR disk image to an ISO disk image.
I just got a new MacBook Pro at work, and it is running Lion 10.7.2. So far, the system will not mount any disk images, although all programs are also brand new. Neither .iso nor .dmg works. The warning message I receive each time says "Warning: The following disk images couldn't be opened ... Reason: not recognized" Disk Utility is also unable to mount the files.
Info:
Mac OS X (10.7.2)
I am having this problem with disk images (no matter if they are .dmgs or isos or whatever) in a Lion 10.7.3 fully updated iMac: when openning one of these from the desktop or a Finder window, the disk utility helper starts opening and checking the image, and then it gets to a point where a window opens as a result with the message "image could not be opened, file system not allowed" (or so, I'm translating the message from Spanish).
And after that, no image I ever click even shows even theprogress dialog. Just nothing happens. I still see the process in Activity Monitor, and force quitting it allows the helper to work again, but I never get a .dmg to open up (so I cannot install anything...). The same images work perfectly in other computers and systems..

I have a mid-2009 13" MBP (2.26, 4 gigs, 1TB HDD, SL 10.6.4) and the SD card reader is not recognizing any of my SD cards (won't mount and also not seen in Disk Utility). The cards are recognized when using a USB adaptor, and also work fine in my wife's MBP SD card reader, so I know it's not the cards. System Profiler recognizes the internal card reader on my system.
I've tried resetting the SMC and reformatting the cards but nothing has worked so far.
EDIT: The SD card reader isn't working under OSX or in Windows, btw.
I know this has been disccused ad nausium many places, but in reading 100s of posts Ive just confused myself and was hoping someone could help me make sense of all I've heard.I have a ibook g4 and use a WD 500gb external hard drive to keep all my music/pictures etc.Last night when I was moving files around (I dont think it was actually in the process of transferring files when this occurred, but there is a slight chance it was) I accidently hit enter instead of shift which told my computer to open all of the 1000+ folders that I had selected (DOH!) after working for an hour it seemed to be all frozen so with concern I turned the computer off and restarted.Suprise suprise, my external will no longer mount. - Disk Utility recognizes it but says there was an error on exit.Tim
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have my iTunes library hanging off an AEBS and if I start iTunes before mounting the disk on the AEBS, iTunes doesn't know where the library is and often reverts back to a default library location of user/music/itunes/itunesmusic. Is there any way to get this drive to mount automatically? Either through OS X or iTunes?

We are visiting family so I don't have acess to my disk either. Can I copy his drive to a dvd, and then copy it over after I install the new hard drive? I've done this before, but never with a dvd or cd.
He is running 10.5.8.
I have downloaded & installed Firefox but can't get rid of the disk image. I've tried dragging it to the bin but every time I use Firefox it re-appears.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have some files that I occasionally send to my family members. The thing is, because they contain sensitive information (finance records, sometimes they're family videos), I don't like just uploading it to my iDisk.
What I've been doing is going into Disk Utility, creating a password-protected disk image, then zipping up that file. It's a few layers of security, and the 128-bit encryption seems good. The thing is, I'm not sure what settings to use.
Here's a screenshot of the window that comes up when creating a new disk image. What options should I choose from here? I can do a Get Info on all of the files I'm putting in the disk image, but it would be easier to have it auto-fit whatever I put in, eliminating any unused space. I'm not sure of what to put for Format, Partitions, and Image Format, and I'm surprised that I have to choose a size since I've heard there's a way to have it automatically fit the files.
Is there a way to select my files/folders in the Finder and have a disk image created from the selection?
I'm making a "backup" of the first season of House and I came upon the below menu from Disk Utility.
What's the best format to use? I don't really care too much about how long it takes.
Should I use encryption? If so, which form?
I recently was having some problems with iTunes, (it was resetting and erasing the library every time i started it) so i decided to just save my mp3 files to my external hard drive and delete iTunes. My plan was to simply download iTunes again and put all my files back onto it.
However, when i downloaded iTunes, the disk image that apple gives you to set it up failed to mount. The reason, apparently, was because it was "Not Recognized"
I had no idea that an apple computer would not recognize one of the most common apple applications, but there you have it.
I am currently using OSX 10.5.8 Leopard and have run into a problem. When ever I attempt to mount a .DMG file, Finder goes unresponsive and will not re launch. The .DMG is downloaded from a verified clean source and the default program to open is the Disk Image Mounter Utility. I try going to /System/Library/Core Services, and I see the Disk Image Mounter Utility listed, yet when I attempt to open it, nothing happens and it is not even listed in the activity monitor. I have tried mounting several .DMG files and each time the same problem occurs and can only be solved by rebooting the system. I have just recently tried updating my software to the latest version and still no fix.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to save individual disc images of the OSX and Win 7 installs on two partitions on my drive so that I can restore the operating systems if I need to. How can I do this since both have different file systems? Do I use Carbon Cloner? How do I restore the Windows partition if I do this?
Also:
I installed Windows 7 32-bit Home edition on a 200gb partition using Bootcamp. I am installing and tweaking the Windows installation and would like to take a snapshot of the system after I have installed all programs and settings.
This is mainly just one of those 'I always wondered' things. How secure really is the 128-bit encryption offered in Disk Utility? Is it virtually impossible to crack? Somewhat difficult? How long would it take someone who really knew what they were doing? If anybody wants to try, I made a sample encrypted disk image. See if you can get into it. Its 2MB and you can download it here. After downloading, you'll have to take the .txt off the end of the filename so its just challenge.sparseimage.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if im doing the process right but whenever I try to resize a disk image it doesnt work, I go to disk utility/resize then I select the image I want to resize, nothing happens and I am stuck with the same size that is no longer big enough for my needs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have all my OS X applications that come with your mac on a seperate .dmg file, that's just how it happened. I'm not sure how it happened, but when I took my computer home, it just installed like that. I bought the iMac ex-display from PC World last august and it didn't come with any documentation, reboot disks or an apple remote. They say they don't have them with them, but they obviously do.
I keep forgetting to mount the .dmg every time I reboot, because I'm a klutz and becoming old at a young age. I was wondering if there's any way to automatically have the mac mount the disk image?
When I download a program or application, can I drag the disk image to the trash and eject the installer. This is an incredibly noob question, I know.
I just always end up with these random duplicate files and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
I need to Install Mac OS 10.4 onto an iBook G3, and it only has a CD-RW drive, so I made a disk image and if I copy it ove to the iBook, will I be able to install from the Disk Image on it's own Hard Drive, or do I have to put it onto a Firewire drive?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn doing a fresh install of OS X Tiger on my emac, can it be done by a disk image of Tiger or do I have to use the CDs? Reason being the CD thingy is not working.
Or, do I have to sacrifice the fresh install and use a USB Drive to upgrade it?
I just purchased my 13inch MBP base model
I turned it on and I don't see any Disk image on my desktop...
I relaunched the Finder, but still the desktop is empty.
Is there something wrong with my MBP?
I made a disk image to have a password protected folder, but now i can't delete it, even after i put in the password.
