I haven't figured out how to scroll through the button that will be pressed when I hit return on a menu yet. On a PC the TAB button will do this.
An example of what I'm talking about:
I have a pdf file but it doesn't have a .pdf extension so I select it then hit cmd-i, and change the extension to .pdf. I then get a box pop-up which says "are you sure ..." and the default answer (i.e. if I hit return) is 'Don't add' the extension. So my question is what key do I hit to change the answer to 'Add'? If I hit TAB then it LOOKS as though I have changed the button to 'Add', but in fact I haven't. The heavy outline moves from 'Don't add' to 'Add' but 'Don't add' remains shaded (and the default). When I hit return it doesn't add the .pdf extension and I have to do it again and use the mouse.
I got a Logitech G5 Refresh mouse, and have had it for allmost 2 years now. I'm a windows man that has just turned in to OS X about 14 days ago, s still have a very lot to learn..
But the thing is, that i was used to - in Windows, that i could browse forward and backwards with the 2 buttons placed close to my thumb on the mouse, instead of the browser/applications forward and backwards buttons..
Is there a way to do so in OS X? I've looked in Preferences, but i did'nt really find anything useful..
lately I can't use the buttons in vBulletin. While it works here again, I guess it's not Safari but vB's fault. What's the matter with it, and where to point other administrators to fix that?
getting the MOST mouse buttons? Logitech seems to have the most that I've found, and I already know about:
- MX Revolution (don't like the battery situation)
- G5 and MX-518 (too few buttons)
Any other recommendations?
I'm planning a keyboardless Quake Wars setup, and what I have in mind requires 13 mouse "buttons"--but I do include scroll directions in that total. The Revolution has exactly 13 functions. I'd prefer corded, but the G5 has only 9 (+/- can't be configured) functions and the MX-518* has only 10 of that. (Saitek Cyborg has 11 or 12 buttons, since I do count the 4-way hat, but Mac support is questionable.)
Driver support doesn't worry me--I'll use ControllerMate, and will check with their forums before I buy.
Accuracy is important, but most high-end mice seem to have good tracking anyway.
*Some sites say the Logitech MX 518 has horizontal scroll. But in pictures it has no arrows next to the wheel, so I'm suspicious. Can the 518's wheel be tilted left/right?
my 4 year old daughter got a hold of my macbook and was hammering away at the buttons. Within moments all of the color as been skewed (for all programs). It's like she created (or turned on) some weird viewing style for the mac. I pull up pictures and they are all translucent. I know I'm not giving you much but hoping someone can work with me to try and fix this.
Example: anything that was white before (within a window let's say) is now black. All of the little buttons at the top left to minimize or close windows have changed from red, yellow, red to green, blue, purple.
When I plug in the apple mouse and go to mouse settings it lets me configure not only the two clickers, but all the extra buttons on my mighty mouse. However, I hate the mighty mouse scroller, so I want to switch to a new mouse. However, when I plug in the new mouse it only lets me right click, left click and scroll. My other mouse has 2 extra buttons I want to configure to open quicksilver and Expose all windows (like I had setup with my apple mouse). Can I do this with a non-apple mouse?
Just got my first mac today "09 imac 24". Its fricking sweet. But one thing I am used to with Windows was to use the Home/End keyboard buttons to get to the beginning/end of a line. They don't seem to do anything on the mac.
So I just installed USB Overdrive on my 10.6.1 iMac 2.66, and one of the buttons was conflicting; I thought it might be an issue with Apple's official mouse & keyboard prefs. So I went in, and I accidentally switched the right click/left click, and now I cannot click on ANYTHING because both buttons are right-click. I tried restarting in the hopes that USB Overdrive would override the system prefs, but no dice. Is there any way I can manipulate system prefs without the use of clicking?
I also tried hooking up another mouse to no avail, and sticky keys are off.
What do the two little buttons under the power button on the front of a G4 Quicksilver do? The one in the middle has a "play" icon on it although it is pointing in the wrong direction to be a play button. It points to the left. The other smaller one has the look of a reset button.
I have a IBook G4 using OS X. The "2" and "w" keys do not work. Was wondering if these keys can be popped up and cleaned under neath or if there is any other easy fix.
I just got my macbook a few days ago. Does anyone know if there is an "end" feature or a "home" feature on macs? It's kind of annoying to not be able to just hit a button to get to the end or beginning of a line while typing. Nothing major, but it would help if I knew where it was if there is one. Also, what does the FN button do in the lower left hand corner on the keyboard?
Sometimes (very rarely, but it does occur) I need to press the F1 button or F8 or another "f" button. However, as we all know, apple has placed really nice (I really like them) shortcuts for widgets, expose, volume, play/pause etc. So when I press that button (say F8) the music starts playing. So how do I "press it right". Do I need to press another button with it. Or is it preferences.
So I'm so sick of Firefox problems that I'm switching to Safari but there is no refresh button and also no stop button. Not even in the Customize toolbar, where you drag icons. What's up with that?
So i was stupid and was playing with some themes. Somehow after uninstalling the few I downloaded and installed now all of my buttons on the top right of windows are tiny. Its no big deal but I want them back to the original size.
This has just started happening. If I press the volume buttons they take about 3-4 seconds to respond...if not longer sometimes. Everything else seems to be working even those I'm getting more beach balls than normal. The system is up to date, the issue seems to go away when I restart temporarily.
After clicking on icloud icon in syste preferences the move to icloud option appears.Unfortunately I have tried clicking the next buttons in the move to icloud program but there seems to be no finish.
My volume buttons aren't working, the icons appear on screen but don't control the volume at all. The only way I can control the volume is by using the output volume scroller in system preferences. How can I get the buttons to control volume again?
I Seem to have a problem recently on my 27" iMac with the razer Naga Gaming Mouse. I installed all drivers from RazerZone. Each time I start my iMac my razer naga doesn't track, all the mouse buttons work but it just doesn't track, its really weird because I have been using this mouse for a month now and never got this problem until I think I started to put my IMac to sleep.
Water spilled on the right side of my keyboard, but everything worked fine right after. However a day later the Delete, Eject and Volume buttons stop working. I took off the keys and cleaned underneath with a Qtip. still not working.
I'm a noob to the MBP. Just got it last month and still learning how to use it. Anyways, my volume and brightness button worked a few hours ago, now it doesn't work. When I tried lowering the volume it doesn't work. Then I tried using the play button to start my itunes and that doesn't work either. I don't know what I did wrong. How can I get it back?
Since I got my new MBA, I am afraid of closing the lid without using the factory keyboard layer fearing the keys may scratch the monitor. Am I being paranoid? I am sure the keyboard has been designed as to not touch the screen when its folded right?
I spilled some red bull on my brand new macbook, it wasn't much, I let it dry and I cleaned the outside. Everything works fine, the keyboard works too, every single key works. But some of them are sticky! And it is very uncomfortable to write on! Obviously with these keyboard designs I can't take the keyboard off and clean under it, and I don't want to take it to the Apple store because it's not really damaged and they won't cover spills. Is there a way to clean under the keys to clean out the stickyness?
I received a wireless Mighty Mouse for Christmas, and just today I decided to try customizing the buttons. I open up Mouse Preferences, and when I try to change the function of any button, it doesn't work. I can click the drop down menu to change button 3 or button 4 to Spaces, or one of the expose functions, but when I use the buttons, they still do (what I assume are) the default functions -- button 4 allows me to go back in my browser, and button 3 (the ball) allows me to move the mouse to scroll the page. The only button I can change the function of is the default secondary button -- I can make this button do anything I want, but not the others, including the primary button.
