Software :: Deleting User Account (Set As Default) Via Unix

Sep 8, 2008

I have a Mac computer at home that automatically logs in to my daughters user account. Apparently, there is an automatic log-in in her account that has conflicts because whenever the computer is turned on, after the gray apple screen, the screen turns totally blue. I have tried booting up in safe boot (pressing shift key at startup)and get the following message:
darwin/BSD (Laurens-computer.local) (console)
login:

After typing any login, I get a line for typing password but nothing types in the line of password and I keep getting a fast message of incorrect password and the screen goes back to blue and then back to the same darwin line. I have an administrator account on this computer and no combination of logins and passwords seem to work. I have also started the computer with command key + s key and gets into single user mode and is in the root. From there, I do not know how to delete her user account to eliminate the problem as I am not able to get into the computer bypassing her automatic log-in. I do not have any startup disks for this computer as it was donated as a surplus from the school. It is a G3 operating on Mac OS X and I am not sure if the version is 10.3

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Deleting A User Account On Mac?

Jun 18, 2012

Okay, so a few months ago I was using a tutorial on how to set up a Minecraft server on my Mac, and I went to the part about making a server daemon, which is supposed to have the server automatically running 24/7 from your computer.Well I never got that working and I don't play Minecraft anymore, but when I turn on my computer, at the login screen, it has my main User, then this _minecraft user. The _minecraft user isn't under Accounts in System Preferences, and I looked in the Users folder, it's not there either. This is the tutorial I used to make it if that helps at all [url]

OS X :: Deleting User Account And Creating Another Admin Profile?

Jun 4, 2010

I bought this Macbook Pro (10.6.3) second hand and the user account was the name of the guy I bought it from. I'm tired of always seeing his name pop up when I have to access my Home folder and since the only way to change that is to create another admin profile thats what I'm going to do. Once mine is up and running I will delete the old account but first I have a question. Is there a way I can transfer over things like my Admin accounts and History, My Applemail email addresses and history and my Firefox settings, plugins etc., without having to duplicate them?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Deleting A User Account - Taking A Very Long Time?

Jun 13, 2012

I chose to delete a new user account that came over as part of a migration from my old MBP to a new MBP.  It was a firly large account but it is taking way longer than the time it took to migrate over.  There is no progress bar or time estimate so it's hard to know what's going on.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Freshly Created Account Is Admin-Account By Default?

May 27, 2012

A freshly created account under 10.7.4. is a Admin account by default. The checkbox "Allow user to administer this computer" is grayed out. I end up with an Admin account and there is no way to convert this account into a Standard account. Facts: 10.7.4 - clean install on a current iMac i5 Freshly created account uses name of a deleted older account (my name)Repaired permissions several times (disk utility and "resetpassword utility" via terminal and safe boot)The older account had been relocated to a external disc for security reasons. There the access rights got corrupted so that I wanted to freshly create a new account and copy all files from a  backup. how to create a new account for me?

MacBook Pro :: OS Lion Couldn't Access Guest Account And New User Account

May 24, 2012

I bought this new MacBook Pro a month ago.  When I try logging into my guest account, it froze.  I had no other alternative but to get out of it by pressing the power button.  Then I tried open a new user account to see if it also has the same problem.  Unfortunately it did have the same problem - froze after I logged in.  I had done a harddisk check, there seemed to be no problem.

OS X Tiger :: Lost My User Account / Changed Account Name In Finder

Jun 3, 2010

I have just lost my user account that I normally use. It happened after I changed my name for my user account in the Finder. I clicked Get Info and changed the name from Helen Andersson to only Helen. and after that nothing is the same and i cant go back either that I know of. When I start the computer now everything that I had on my desktop and in my Itunes, Icalendar, addressbook, and Aperture are not there. I have found them (well at least what i had on my desktop and my itunes but not the other information), so they are still on the computer but I dont know how to get back to my normal user account.

When I check my System preferences Account I only have one account so its not like I made a new one and have two. But I can also see that the one I am using now that has nothing on it is made today.

So please if anyone can help me get my iMac to go back to the old user and all its settings the same way I would very much appreciate it. Because this user has nothing and I have to start everything from scratch even my internet settings I had to download again to be able to go on the internet. This user has nothing.

Jun 25, 2012

Up till now, all the family have been using just one user account on our iMac. (OK, I now know that's not a good idea!) I'm now going to be working from home so have set up a new user as Work. I've been using an IMAP mail service in Mail on the family user account and I've now set it up on the work account. If I delete the IMAP account from Mail in the family user account, will this delete my mail off the IMAP server so I cannot access it on the wrok user account?

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Cannot Log Into Mail After Accidentally Deleting Account

Mar 20, 2012

I was logged into my Workgroup Manager remotely and lag caused me to accidentally delete the wrong account, which is used primarily for email. When I re-created the account, I found I could no longer log into the email account regardless of repeatedly re-entering the proper password into Workgroup Manager thinking that I had somehow typed it in wrong. From Apple Mail, it tells me the credentials are wrong. But from the Mail Server's logs, I see these entries in the log substituting <xxxx> for the actual user account name:

Cache lookup for user <xxxx>

mail SACL is not enabled; error = 2

found user <xxxx> in cache as <xxxx>

Credential verification failed because account is inactive.

I don't see any settings that indicate an active or inactive account. Anyone know what could be causing this error and how to fix it? It sounds like it's treating the new account with the same name as a completely different account but is still trying to access the deleted account, but I'm not sure if I'm right. If the old account is still in the cache, how do I clear that cache so that the newly created account is unique?
