Jun 11, 2012
Is there anyway to sync Safari bookmarks across two machines with different systems (personal = older, work = newer & lion)?

I'm running Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6) on a G4 with OS 10.3.9. Safari used to be great but seems to be slowly dying (e.g. can't move to next page on eBay, can't pay on eBay). I am having to use Firefox but don't like it. Is there anything I can do to resurrect my old mate (apart from lashing out on new hardware)?

I have managed to transfer all of my music video and apps from my external hard drive onto my new macbook (replacement for my ibook). Is there any particular procedure I need to follow so as to ensure I do not lose any data. Obviously my new macbook will be where I am syncing from now on. As an aside will the sync transfer my bookmarks into safari?

I sync my Safari bookmarks between machines via MobileMe. Works pretty well. But I was wondering - is there a way I can make FireFox use my Safari bookmarks, so that they benefit from the sync as well?

I have iCloud enabled on my Mac (10.7.3) and iPad (5.1). Both have Bookmark syncing enabled, but my Mac Safari Reading List is not syncing with my iPad. I disabled/renabled, logged-out and logged-in on both devices, but still no syncing. All my other items, Contacts, Calendar etc. are syncing correctly. Just not the reading list.

Years ago, when I first had the iPhone and iTunes on my Mac, Safari bookmarks would always update from bookmarks on my Mac and reflect accordingly on the iPhone. I also see that bookmarks do not update on my iPad now either. How do I get back the behavior from the 'good old days' to make safari bookmarks update when I sync my iPad and iPhone through iTunes on the Mac? There must be some settings that have been changed, but I have not been able to search them out in settings.Â

Well I still can't get bookmarks to sync proper with Lion. I have three Mac Pros, two ipads and iMac 3.4 27inch and iPhone 4s. Every thing syncs on all devices ,,,,, All but the bookmarks between the computers. The ios devices sync fine, but no two computers will sync bookmarks. I have tried everything on the forums and a few more of my own, but to no avail!

This has been going on for about two months and I have tried everything including a trip to the Genius Bar. What I found out at the Genius Bar is that when the new internal hard drive was installed in my iMac the repair people just transferred everything from my old disk to the new disk. So, Lion was not properly "installed" and the Genius re-installed Lion so that I would have the extra disk space should I need to start up on the C drive for repairs. It was not long after the new disk installation that Safari stopped playing Youtube videos properly. I uninstalled and reinstalled Java, but I still feel like the proper plug in is not installed to run videos. I have no problems running youtube on Chrome or FireFox, so it is just a Safari problem. How can I find out what is missing and where can I go to get the program to install?Â

I can't seem to find a way to continue to sync my iPod Touch to my Mac without it automatically syncing over the iPod's Safari bookmarks to my Safari on the computer. I want to keep this bookmarks separate but every time it still wants to sync the Safari data on the iPod to the Safari data on the Mac.

I have a Nokia N78 cellphone which I can sync to my Macbook Pro using iSync. This works fine for photos, iCal, contacts but I what I would like to do is to be able to back up and view my sms on my Mac. Does anybody know if there is anyway of achieving this (free if possible)? If not, can anybody recommend a phone (other than the obvious iPhone) that has this syncing capability with Macs? I am looking to update my phone soon anyway.

A year ago I tested Spanning Sync for syncing my iCal with Google calendar. It worked out very well and I subscribed for one year (25 USD). Now there is version 2 around the corner that will add contact sync support. I have tried the beta and that works very well too.
My subscription is to end soon and I am thinking about extending. That would be another 25 USD for a year or 65 USD for life long subscription. Meanwhile I encountered another product called Busy Sync. I does almost the same (except contact syncing). With a coupon a single license per computer is 20 USD aka 40 USD for both of my macs.

I use iCloud for syning Mail & Notes. Contacts, Calendars and Documents & Data. I am 100% sure that in the past in iTunes/Info tab "Sync contacts" and "Sync Mail Accounts" showed all my different Address Book groups and different email account to be synced. Since recently they seem disappeared and I only see my different Calendars to be synced. Why are both Sync contacts empty and Sync Mail Accounts both emtpy/dimmed. BTW if I check Sync contacts I get a message that they are synced through iCloud etc. etc. Now if I enable on my Mac another email account in Apple Mail it is not added to my iPhone/iPad anymore. How can I change that ?Â

I'm trying to connect an older G4 computer tower (400mhz) to an LCD TV (Vizio 20"). The computer has a ATI rage 128 video card. I have a VGA-to-VGA cable that connects the computer to the RGB connection on the TV. However, I'm not getting a signal. Are any additional steps, hardware, cabling, etc. needed here? Not very familiar with tech details. I've searched web. I have access to an 'ATI rage 128Pro' card that seems to have a DVI connection in addition to the VGA port. Would this work better?

I'll be doing some work with Photoshop, iMovie, and a fair amount of Handbrake-type encoding. I'm tilting back and forth with getting one of the older generation (1st or 2nd) Mac Pros that I could upgrade myself and the current or upcoming Mini/Mini Server.

The price hikes for the new Mac Pros are much than probably most of us anticipated. So looking at perhaps getting an old stock Harpertown octo 2.8Ghz or 3.2GHz machine.
1. are they still worth getting?
2. will they still be upgradeable for the next 2/3 yrs.
3. is there any limitations, end of road technologies with these machines.
4. is better to just get a baseline Quad-core 1 x 2.66Ghz machine. (although the 8GB RAM limitation feels like a weak proposition, and surely a 2.8GHz harpertown octo is faster than a single quad 2.66? I know about the new motherboard layout, but seems like a lesser spec machine).

I have a quick question, maybe a softball for the experts here.
I'm prepping my wife's older Macbook (white, 2006) for sale on eBay, as I have recently replaced it with the newest model. I'm going to wipe the computer and re-install OSX.
My question is this: Can I use the OSX Snow Leopard disc from her new Macbook to wipe/reinstall on her old one, thus having Snow Leopard installed instead of Tiger?

I'm having a beast of a time trying to get 10.6 to install on an older mac mini.... The installation proceeds in the usual way - but after about 15 minutes the installation stalls with some sage words to the effect that 'installation failed because support files cannot be copied' - or something to that effect.
I'm thinking one of a number of things could be wrong:
1) The dvd drive is dodgy
2) the SL dvd is dodgy
3) the hard drive is dodgy
My question is this. Does anybody have any idea of what to try ? - I'm thinking along the lines of a minimal SL install, reformat the drive, partition the drive, anything to try and get the minimal set of files on there.... can I try and make a disk image or something ?
Incidentally, when I go to 'customize' the install (uncheck the printer, languages, X11 etc.) - I'm left with the 'greyed out ' Essential system software which shows a size of 8Gb..... but I recently did the same thing on a Macbook and the Essential system files for SL came to a mere 3.5 Gb.... Any idea why this install to the Mac Mini is 8Gb

Is there any reason NOT to use the powerbrick from my earlier MacBook Pro with the new one? I know the new brick is bigger and more powerful (85W) but will anything go wrong if I use the old one when I plug in at my office?
How about a 60W brick for an old MacBook?
