Safari :: It Loads PDF As Gibberish?
Jun 12, 2012
Opening some PDFs in Safari 5.1.7 browser, PDFs appear as gibberish. Example, it will begin:
[code]....
The same PDF link will show up in Firefox just fine. Since Safari is my default, what can I do to view PDFs reliably? I can't find a similar problem anywhere online.
• PDF plug-ins removed from Library > Internet Plug-Ins
• Acrobat Pro 9.5.1; Reader 10.1.3
• OS 10.6.8

I got a new imac about three weeks ago, and I can't understand why safari randomly will display the wrong pages for the site i want to go. I'm on one site then after clicking on a line it will load up another page i may have visited before or at the same time in another tab. Example i'm trying to access a clothing store and its showing me an ebay error, i get random errors trying to go to youtube, i try going to wikipedia and it loads cragslist. Is it malware?

When I loaded up the same page on my pc and mac side by side that the safari version of the page had very poor pictures, i.e. you could see loads of artifacts of the jpg compression. The page I loaded was [URL] and you can see the picture of mr Mac and mr PC stood side by side. I have tried looking through Safari preferences but don't see anything anywhere that would indicate picture compression? Another point I think I should make is that the mac is a macbook and it is running over a 54g network.
So I thought maybe it realised that the speed wasn't up to scratch and therefore adjusted the picture quality itself? Needless to say I did plug in an ethernet lead and after a couple of refreshes the page loaded and the pictures were perfect. Which sort of answered my question? but 54g is a fast enough speed to have high quality images and I thought I should have the choice of selecting this myself?

Background: On several occasions, now, I've installed and reinstalled (completely cleaned off) Safari on my (1) Toshiba A505-S6017 (laptop - 8GB RAM) -- running Windows 7-64 and (2) on my Gateway desktop (7GB paging file) -- running Windows XP I've rebooted after every reinstall. From what I hear, it's a wonderful addition to my browser suite -- all my other browsers continue to work fine: Chrome, Firefox, Opera.
A. PROBLEM: Each time I try to use this reputable program (version 5.2 (7534.52.7), I encountered the following problem: Program (1) loads instantly, (2) presents the browser space, (3) agrees to open new tabs, (4) but when I try to direct it to ANY URL at all, the hour-glass appears, but the wait is fruitness. I cannot reach any site at all. I've tried to access the program, both as "administrator" and regular "user." No joy. All I ever get showing is the interesting interface (and an hour-glass on an URL-call) and nothing else.
B. ALSO: I have also noticed something I'm not sure is normal or not: ln my file-directory, I only see the program icon for Safari, but NO file directory or ancillary files -- is this normal?
Does anyone have any help to offer an intensely motivated future user? P.S. If I eventually get through this problem on my own, I'll return here and tell what I did -- but I'm starting to doubt my abilities .

Whenever I open Safari, it loads all tabs left open from the last session, not just the active one. It takes forever and I have to manually "x" each tab to get them to stop loading. I don't remember this being a problem pre-Lion.

I don't get any error message, just a blank page showing nothing. I don't get no time-out message or anything. I have Mac OS 10.5.8 and Safari 5.0.2 and I have tried deleting the cookies and resetting the cache.
Besides I also noticed that while trying to load [URL] the page won't load but I can see the source code.

When I open up safari, every webpage works. But, randomly www.--------.net loads up blank. Reloading does not help either. Every other page works still. The only way I can fix it is to force quit safari and then reload the program...I have tried deleting the com.apple.safari.plist and the only extension I use is LastPass.

This is a pretty weird problem I've been having on and off for the past few months... Every now and then, when I type a URL into Safari, it loads a completely different site... For example, [URL].will load [URL].. This usually lasts for around 30 minutes or so, and then it goes back to normal. The URLs affected vary... right now, when I try to load [URL]., Safari loads an error page from Yahoo! (but the URL in the address bar is still [URL].). If I try to go directly to Gmail by typing in mail.google.com, Safari says "cannot connect to server". I attached a screenshot of what happens when I go to [URL].

I've had a lot of trouble with Safari. First off, when I try to go to a website, Safari will continuously load the website for about a minute, until the "Page cannot be displayed" or "Safari can't find the server" page comes up. Then, if I try to go to the website again, it works. Just like that. This happens up to twenty times daily. Also, if I try to view pictures on Google Images, it will not load all of them. I don't understand what the problem is. This has been happening for months now. Ever since I've upgraded to Safari 5, it's ten times worse. I can't explain why Safari does this. I have a 2.53 Ghz, 4GB RAM, and 250GB MacBook Pro (2009). I haven't even had the laptop for a year. I have Internet security on my Mac (Intego), but don't know if that could contribute to the problem.

I have a Macbook Pro (Lion originally installed) running on Mavericks (all latest updates). SSD installed and the DVD tray is replaced by the original HDD.
The laptop wasn't running very smooth anymore so decided to give it a fresh Mavericks install (even though I know it's not really necessary for mac, everything is much faster except a weird internet problem came up).
After freshly installing Mavericks I couldn't get into my google account anymore, just wouldn't load. Tried Safari (use this normally) and Firefox and Chrome, this last was gave a SSL connection error, both Safari and FF said the website couldn't be loaded because the server didn't respond. For Gmail I use Mailplane which is just stuck on a white page. I tried repairing the keychain, repaired disk and disk permissions, cleaned browsers, turned off firewall and antivirus (Shopos) started in safe mode, checked time settings which were all good. Nothing... I even ended up creating a usb bootdisk for Mavericks, formatted the disk and reinstalled from the start just Mavericks and nothing else, started Safari, still the same problem. I figured it's not worth reinstalling all software so put back my backup.
Now I ended up somehow only being able to use Gmail normally in Firefox, Chrome still gives SSL error and Safari can load the inbox, but I can't open any messages. I get the error there is a problem with the connection. If I try in Basic HTML mode it surprisingly does work.
You would say, just use Firefox, finished...but the thing is that sometimes random websites won't load in Firefox, when I load the same site in Safari it works perfectly.
O yes, I also tried the connect to my iPhone and use the Cellular data network, then it's no problem using Gmail in Safari normally. You would say it's a router problem, but I have another Macbook Pro (just one model later running Mountain Lion) this one works perfectly with every browser. Also my iPhone does everyting logged into the WiFi network.

this happened a few weeks ago when i installed an update. i tried to fix the problem by changing the default serif and sans serif fonts, but it didn't work. does anyone know what's up with this? here are some screen shots. as you can see, i did a search for the word "boogie" (first word that popped in my head) and the search results SHOW the word boogie but nothing else.
i just used safari these past few weeks, but i should probably fix this problem.

The pandora app is gray and has a blue status bar with a message underneath stating "loading". How do I fix this? I have resynced my iphone, but no luck. It tells me it is a purchased app, and I cannot delete it off my phone either.

I installed an update for it just a moment ago, and when it rebooted it isn't loading up! It loads the dock, and the 2 icons for the harddrives (OSX and Windows) show up, then it does the spinning rainbow of death and nothing else happens and I can't open up any apps or do anything! I've tried rebooting several times and nothing. sometimes loads up odd and a reboot will fix it, but this time it's not fixing! Any reason for why it does this at all though? There's nothing wrong with my computer and it runs fine when it does load up, but it just gives me difficulty on occasion just starting up though. Now all my icons load up but it freezes when I click on something.

Well, my Macbook [white 2,1] has been running at a normal speed and all, but up until a few days ago, my internet has been noticeably slower. I view a lot of pictures and manga/comics online, so when i click to go to the next it loads very slowly, Youtube videos take a long time to load, and buffer every few seconds.
Normally, they would go smoothly and fast, I'm wirelessly connected to my router which hasn't changed and I've been in the same area of my house too. The desktop and other laptop that my family members use don't have this problem either. My family uses a Telus cnnection.
I've already cleared cookies and cache, I went into the Cookies folder from spotlight and deleted all inside it and emptied trashbin.

I have a MacBook Pro with bootcamp and Windows 7 as well as OS X (unsure of version number at this moment, but think its 10.5). On the Windows 7 side, webpages load quickly in both Firefox 3.6.10 and Internet Explorer 8.0 and I rarely have trouble. On the MAC side, webpages are often unbearably slow to load and often do not load at all or time out or stop halfway through loading. This is both occurring in Firefox (latest version) and Safari (latest version).

Youtube was working just fine on my 09 whitebook the other night. The last thing I did before powering it off was updating Firefox. For whatever reason, it will no longer load Youtube.com. All I see is a blank page while Firefox attempts to bring it up. The same thing happens when I attempt to visit the page via Safari. What's strange is that my Windows machine can access the site with no problem. According to OSX, all my software is current and up-to-date. I tried clearing all private data and restarting the machine but it still does not load.

I have a Core Duo 2006 Macbook 2ghz, 2gb RAM, running 10.6.2 and whenever the CPU is taxed for an extended period of time, chances are I'll get some audio issues. What usually happens is that the audio will stutter for a second or so, then change instantly into a heavily distorted 'bitcrusher' output. The only way to resolve this is to restart whatever program is outputting audio. So far, this has happened in both Firefox & iTunes.

Is there something about the hardware on this iMac that will not let SL run in full 64 bit glory? It loads 64 bit kernel, but did that in Leopard as well. SL loads the 64 bit kernel but not the rest of it... of course holding the 6 and 4 keys results in no joy. So now I suspect it is not just the CPU that must be a 64 bit ready chip but the rest of the hardware must be like wise optimized.

Whenever (usually) I do something which causes a high CPU load, my mouse cursor movement because extremely jerky. For some reason, even ejecting my USB hard drive (which takes about 20 seconds from when I tell it to eject to when it actually removes itself from my Desktop) causes my cursor to start going jerky.
