Safari :: "cannot Decode Raw Data" Error
Mar 7, 2012
I have a Macbook Air running the latest version of OS X, 10.7.3, and a Macbook Pro 15" running OS X 10.6.8. On both machines, in both Safari and Firefox, I continue to get the error message, "cannot decode raw data", on several sites. I work with a major stock photo site and can no longer upload my photos to their library. I also cannot access my account on Flickr, or visit several other related sites, I continue to get this error message. I have tried resetting both Safari and Firefox on both machines, I have tried deleting cookies, I upgraded my Macbook Air to the latest version of OS X to see if that would resolve the issue and it did not. This is crippling me, I simply do not know what to do. Everything was working fine until about a month ago, then it all stopped working.

I've been using Safari 3 that came installed with Leopard. Whenever I try to load a page from Flickr, I receive an error:
Safari cant open the page.
Safari cant open the page http://www.flickr.com/photos/.... The error is: cannot decode raw data (NSURLErrorDomain:-1015) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
I've done a search on this on the error on these forums and with google and haven't turned up anything. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

I just purchased an Aluminum MacBook 2.4GHz today, and I tried playing some H.264 Trailers and I am shocked by the performance. My other MacBook Pro 2.4GHz playing a 1080p trailer is using about 100% CPU (out of 200%) but my new MacBook played the same trailer at only 28% CPU usage (out of 200%). I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is some GPU decode acceleration happening with the 9400M GPU because the difference here is quite huge.

I have a new MacBookPro, 320HD, 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with Snow Leopard. I have always put my thumb drive into a slot and transferred my data to the desktop so I can work on it. Only with my new computer does the following happen. After working on any files, I drag them back to the thumb drive. I keep getting the following message, "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data can't be read or written. (Error code -36). It will then create a new folder just like the one I'm transferring to the thumb drive, only without any files. I can then transfer single files to the new folder, but only if they aren't in a folder. So anything in a folder will not be transferred until a new folder is written on the thumb drive and then I have to transfer single files until everything has been moved over.

I have a problem when I'm transferring files from my powerbook g4 to external hard disks such as lacie or ipod. It keeps popping up "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in file AVI could not be read or written. (Error Code -36). This happens just for certain files, not all of them. I don't know whether the hard disk has an issue or the file is corrupted and if the file is corrupted I hope there is a program that can restore it.

Does anyone know the meaning of an error code -43? I receive this when trying to burn a data DVD from the Finder; the error text is to the effect of "<cannot find resource fork> for <path not accessible>". Doesn't seem to matter what I'm trying to burn. Burning disc images using Disk Utility or from iDVD works fine. My hard disk, from where the files are being copied, verified with no errors.

I recently replaced the HD in my MacBook Pro. Just after, I retrieved my old files from the Time Machine backup, which I made just before the replacement. During the first sync of my iPhone via iTunes and while I was trying to sync my contacts I saw the message "iTunes could not sync contacts to iPhone because an error occurred while committing data". After that, I lost my iPhone contacts (I have them only from iCloud). The only problem is contacts, all the others (Calendars, Apps) are normally syncing.

I have the same question about printing error - remote host did not accept file data (32), is the answer the same as I saw among answers about the notification regarding printers? I have Copy Machine: Kyosera KM-2560. I print, let's say about 120 sheets on Friday. After about 50% into the spooling I get this message of the error. Would it be the printer using IP?

So after some hard work I finally got windows installed on my mac. I did so because I needed to run a program called 20-20 design for work. About halfway through the install i got this: Error: Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check) Right before this happens the disc kind of slows down and then completely stops. I googled this error and it says more than likely its a bad cd or dvd? Could this be an issue with my new partitioned hard drive?

Quick Time used to work fine, but now when I click on Watch Trailer in Apple Trailers, the link opens ok, but when Quick Time opens, it gives an error that says "A necessary data reference could not be resolved". When I click on Ok, the window closes.
Any ideas what to do? I did recently upgrade my hdd and used Time Machine to restore my data/programs.

Everytime I quit the Safari, it automatically deletes all my cookies data, even though I ask it not to. In the settings section it seems ok, cause I checked in the check box to save my cookies.

just eagerly downloaded the update which supposedly fixed the problem with the "remove website data" from the Safari privacy pane, the one that doesn't work, right, well, it's just the same as it ever was, cookies popping up all over the place, even after deletion. Again, I do not wish to trawl my computer looking for plists or prefs to delete, I just want the "remove all website data" button to work. Any others still experiencing this or is it just me? Has anyone found an answer to this yet?

Since updating Safari recently to 5.1.5, if I choose the Mail Link to This Page command, instead of opening Mail.app with a new email with the link pasted in, it launches Google Chrome and, in Chrome, goes to the email login page for Google webmail. If I choose the Mail Contents of This Page command, I get an error message stating: "Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome.app doesn't support sending webpages from Safari. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages." Safari is set as my default browser. This behavior started immediately after the 5.1.5 update.I use these commands pretty regularly and, through many version of mail.app and Safari, there has never been a glitch. Any ideas, folks? Or is this a bug introduced by 5.1.5 or some other recent Software Update? (Software updates are completely up to date and on 10.7.3.)

I recently received an iMac as a "gift"... turns out it has some problems. I am unable to reinstall the default OS (Mountain Lion) because I have yet to be able to partition the HDD correctly. The error I keep getting is: Partition failed with the error: Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed. At this point, the default Macintosh HD isn't showing, so it must of been erased/deleted.

This has been bugging me for months, so I'm hoping someone out there can answer this query. Our county changed our house number several months ago. I use auto-fill on Web page forms very frequently. Of course, every time I auto-fill my address info, my original house number comes up, and I have to edit it to the new number. I've searched around, but I have not been able to locate where the data for filling in the forms are kept, or any procedure available for changing what data Safari uses to auto-fill. Does anyone know how to accomplish this feat?

I've had PithHelmet installed on the older version of Safari, but since I've updated to 4.0 it no longer works. So I've tried to uninstall PithHelmet from my Mac by deleting the "PithHelmet" folder located in /Library/Application Supports/, but nothing seems to happen - I still get this pop-up message whenever I launch Safari. I have tried re-installing Safari but I get the same problems!

What I found was that this behaviour was reset between reboots. That is, sometimes the problem was gone; other times, I would have to restart repeatedly, hoping for a "good boot."In July I found a good boot was hard to find. I was out of town for a month after that. When I returned, there were only bad boots. I tried to update Safari, but "an unexpected error occurred." The next day, the machine chimed on boot, showed the grey Apple plus a progress bar (which never got very far), and turned off. That's all it does now.
