Jul 7, 2010anybody using Netflix? I love their service, and I just discovered netflix app for Plex. It makes things even more awesome. I have connection speed at about 15M. I wonder if I should watch video streaming on safari or plex? Will there be any difference in quality? If anybody have tried both, please tell me your thoughts.

Sep 2, 2010Netflix recently announced that they will steam HD content to mac and pc users, but so far it does not work for me. I'll pick a show I know is in HD and play it, but while it shows the HD icon in the lower right, when I mouse over it the icon's pop-up displays the "allow HD button" checked and above that reads "not playing in HD"
I've tried this with several different sources with the same results. Anyone else with this problem? Is there a solution?
BTW, I meet all of Netflix's requirements for streaming to PC in HD:
Silverlight 3 or higher
A screen resolution of at least 800 x 600
A high-speed internet connection at time of playback (typically 5 Mbps or higher)

Dec 27, 2010Every time I attempt to stream a video on netflix, either on safari or firefox, it crashes.
Does anyone experience this? I was just watching them fine the other day, but now I can't.
I'm about to cancel my membership, because I can't watch anything.

Jan 18, 2009When using either Firefox or Safari, recently, to watch instant movies via Netflix, the browser unexpectedly closes. Sometimes it gets to the buffering stage. I've cleared all my private data (history, caches, cookies...) and redownloaded flash/shockwave. I have the most current Silverlight too.
Any ideas? It worked perfectly since I've had it (about a month or two), up until today.

Mar 12, 2012I am running Safari 5.1.4 on a Lion MacBook Pro (latest version of Lion), but for some reason it won't play mp3 files - it always ends up downloading them.However, if I try the same web page with the same mp3 files on, say, Chrome, they play just fine.

Sep 7, 2009For the last year I have been searching for a way to play Netflix instant streaming content on my external Cinema Display connected to my iMac. Once a movie was playing full screen on the external display if you clicked on anything on the main display the movie would fall out of full screen and back to window mode. This is highly annoying and I really wanted a solution.
I ran across Plex some months back and they had a Netflix plugin which solved the problem, or so I thought. While Plex could play movies from Netflix full screen on the external display without falling out of full screen, it came with a host of compromises. The first compromise was that in Plex my instant queue never reflected what was actually in my queue. Recently I had 116 movies in my queue and Plex reported only 80 of those. Worse if one of the movies I wanted to watch was missing I would try to use Plex's Netflix search function and Plex would still not find the movie. Some titles simply could not be found through Plex, a problem the author acknowledges and says he is working on with no ETA. The other issue I have with Plex is that the fast forward and rewind functions that work so well in the Netflix browser based player do not work at all in Plex, making navigation in a movie painful within Plex.
So tonight I set out to look for an alternative to Plex, I came up empty handed. Then I had an idea, I searched my Mac for the Silverlight plugin and when I found it was greeted with a window stating that an update was available. This has happened several times before and each time I updated with the hope that Microsoft fixed the external monitor viewing problem, but it always remained. So this time I updated and proceeded to run my usual test which is to put a Firefox browser window on my external display, play a movie, and then click the full screen button. The movie went full screen which it always does, then I clicked in my other Firefox window open on my main display, as always the window on the external monitor fell out of full screen.
Dejected I went on to my second test which is to perform the exact same sequence I just described but using Safari instead of Firefox. Again it went full screen on the external display but this time something was different! The window where I clicked full screen froze and a new window opened behind it in full screen. Now I had two windows open on the external display, the smaller frozen one and a full screen one playing the movie behind it. I minimized the small window which left only the full screen one playing on the external display. Then I clicked on a window on my main display and the movie continued to play full screen on the external monitor! Thinking it was a fluke I closed Safari and tried it again, it worked perfectly!
This is awesome now I can play my Netflix movies on my external display in full screen without any issues and I have all of the features of the Netflix browser based player, in particular fast forward and rewind.
One last thing, prior to this working playback in a browser window was extremely choppy for me. Plex did not play choppy and it was another reason I was using it for playback. Now in full screen with the browser based player through Safari there is absolutely no choppiness.
Just for reference here is everything I am running:
OS X 10.6
Safari 4.0.3
Silverlight plugin 3.0.40723.0 (which interestingly is dated July 23)
Even though my system told me an update was available I am confused by the July 23 date of the plugin. Maybe it wasn't the plugin that solved this but rather my newly installed Snow Leopard in conjunction with Safari 4.0.3? Whatever the case I am thrilled to report that it finally works!

I tried downloading a plug-in for Safari called Flip - something or other so that it can play in QuickTime, but that doesn't work. It still tells me I need an add-on or plug-in.

Feb 22, 2012Safari on my wife's iMac does not display video. Our home page has a video imbeded that plays just fine on my Mac Pro and we are both using the latest OS, 10.7.3, and the latest version of Safari, 5.1.3. She also has Firefox installed and it plays the video just fine. When I check her installed plug-ins, she has the QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.1, just as I do. Why does video show up in my setup, but not on my wife's iMac when we are using the same software. Do I need to re-install Safari?

Jun 5, 2012I have a MacBook Pro running all the latest software and it seems that Safari's having trouble playing things, like videos. Nothing works: Flash, HTML5 or QuickTime. Tried it all. MP3s won't play in the browser either. I've looked around and many of the other people who have this problem have it magically disappear with an update, no such luck for me. Apple isn't going to be useful for less than $49 either.

May 3, 2012Lately I've been having trouble watching videos on YouTube. They stop and stutter a lot, to the point where I have to give up. At first I discovered that The Google had put me in their HTML5 beta program unbeknownst to me. That was causing some problems as well so I opted out of it for the time being. Â
I fired up Activity Viewer and saw that when I'm experiencing the problem the process called QTKitsever -(703) Safari Web Content is maxing out my CPU bringing my Macbook Pro to a screaching halt (note I checked a second time and the -(703) had changed to -(812) for some reason). Safari seems to work fine otherwise, but as soon as I go to YouTube and try to watch a video the process kicks in and my Mac chokes.Â

Safari :: How To Play Flash Videos On It
May 28, 2012I have been using this website. [url] to play some old videos of my favorite show... I was watching them today and It took a long time for them to stream so I let it load for like 30 mins and then played it. Some times it took longer. Some times it was really "chopped" playback... I thought if I uninstall the Flash Player and then Reinstall it, it would update and then load faster so I did. I finished the instalation process and then I go to the website and the video black box (where you would view the video and there would be a play button) wasn't even there anymore. Like I can't click on any video-type things. I don't understand what I need to do and I don't know who I need to ask about this... I really want to watch these videos. I tried to go to Youtube and see if it's all videos but it wasn't, just this website's.If it was working fine 4 hours ago and all i did was reinstall the Flash player thing then why would it not work now?

Jun 17, 2012I can't play YouTube videos on Safari any more. I have noticed that I can play videos on Safari but not on YouTube. When atempting to watch a video on You Tube it won't finish loading. It appears to load at first evenutally stops before the video can play. I then receive the "Plug-in Failure" message. I am using Safari 5.1.7 on Mac OS X 10.7.4. I believe I am using the latest version of Abobe Flash Player, which I downloaded when I first noticed the problem.

Mar 8, 2010I don't know what happened, but somewhere along the line Safari simply stopped playing video for me. What's weird is that Youtube does work, yet none of the videos at, say, Gamespot.com work. I can't play Apple's brand-new iPad ad either, located here:

Of note is that I do have ClickToFlash as well as BashFlash installed, but that never was a problem before. The videos that do not work in Safari all work, without exception, in Chrome Beta, Firefox and Opera.

Feb 28, 2012I designed a website that has narration tracks on 23 pages. I used a simple "PlaySound" plugin imbeded in each page. It works just fine in Firefox and Chrome and used to work fine in Safari until I upgraded Safari. Now, in Safari, the narration starts and stops after 4-6 words are spoken on most pages. Some pages will play the entire piece after it pauses for a moment (after 4-6 words) and then continues. I reinstalled Safari and the same thing still happens.

Apr 8, 2012I am on an older computer system OX 10.4.11 and safari has made my computer unusable it crashes everytime I try to do anything especially when I try to watch a youtube movie and/or even try to open a youtube account. I have tried to suggestions on the forum i.e. clean up cache, reset safari, clean up cookies, etc., etc. but my computer still crashes with Safari. I tried to upload the 4.1.3 which I understand is the newest version my computer can take and reboot my computer but again safari crashes and I cannot get into youtube.Â
