Safari :: Reading List Drops Entries / Replaces With Multiple Entries Of Same Subject
Mar 21, 2012
When I opened my reading list this morning and added an entry I got a very weird list - multiple redundant entires that seem to replace the other entries I had. Checked on my reading list on my iPhone - just like it should be.
How the blazes do you you get rid of MULTIPLE entries in ical? I have read many answers and printed off a few to follow them but invariably i get to a point where I am unable to take the next step! I back track and and unable to find a fault of where I went wrong!! Then I have to ask myself WHY? Why on earth am I having to go to such extreme lengths to get rid of the unwanted entries?Come on now Apple it is you who should be providing the simple logic answer to this?I decided to give up? just ignore the other entries it easier than going frantic trying (and anyway I am frightened I may throw the macbook in my temper)
My Open With... menu has multiple entries of apps. Example; Right click .avi file, open with... VLC, Quicktime, Other, VLC, Quicktime, Other and over and over it goes. I have rebuilt the LaunchServices database with Onyx, and this didn't work. I have also deleted the LaunchServices.plist file.
I have been trying to figure this out for several days now, and I'm lost. I have a secondary storage disk installed in my old Powermac G4. It mounts fine, and I can read everything on it. But when I transfer files to it, they seem to disappear. Going into Disk Utility, everything seems fine, too. But when I bring up Terminal and go into /Volumes, there's something seriously wrong. The directory shows 'Mac HD' and 'Storage', the two volumes that should be there, but there are also 'Storage 1' and 'Storage 2' in there.
The files I transferred to 'Storage' are showing up on that volume, but not on the duplicate volumes, and it appears that it is actually 'Storage 2' that is mounting. So WTF is going on here? How did this happen, and how do I fix it? Since the files I need are on the original instance of the volume, it looks like I need to remove the two duplicates and re-link the mount point to the original disk. But how?
Recently I got a 3Gs and loaded it up with my old 3G backup. All the music was gone. No biggie, I just re-added it all. Then I upgraded to 3.1 and i noticed that in my iPod on the iPhone some of my albums were showing up as multiple entries. The difference is, it seems it would make a new album entry for every artist on the album. It's annoying because I used to just have one album but now its like 15 entries and i have to scroll through them all when they should all fall under that same album. WTF 3.1
I'm running an old software, it's Mac OS X, ver. 10.4.11, 2 GHZ intel core 2 duo. Safari version 4.1.2. On the Safari tabs at top, "Bookmark" tab, just under "bookmarks bar"option are two websites that are not websites that I have bookmarked. I can't make them go away. I have tried to right click on them but to no avail. They aren't opened anywhere else. Found them right after a new power up.
Is there a maximum number AutoFill entris that Safari will keep a record of? I use the AutoFill feature to input my email login/password. I ave Safari 6.1.7 and am using Snow Leopard
I have iCloud enabled on my Mac (10.7.3) and iPad (5.1). Both have Bookmark syncing enabled, but my Mac Safari Reading List is not syncing with my iPad. I disabled/renabled, logged-out and logged-in on both devices, but still no syncing. All my other items, Contacts, Calendar etc. are syncing correctly. Just not the reading list.
What is the easiest way to backup all sites that I put in reading list (about 50 of them)? I plan to install Mountain Lion but I want to backup reading list first.

I had saved a webpage on the Safari Reading List. I pulled it up, read a little, and saw it disappeared from the Reading List. I had ot finished reading it, so I decided to re-save it to the list, but the Add Page button on the Reading List window was greyed out. Nothing I did would change the greyed out button to make it functional.Â

I opened safari and all of my tabs/reading list were thrown way outta wack. The reading list is "empty" but has hundreds of greyed out stuff behing the glasses and explanation. Everytime i add something to the list it adds the item multiple times, 1 at first then 2 for the next item ad infinitum. My once polished tabs bar has been riddled with old stuff that I never put there.

As of today, Safari only opens links by bouncing them to the reading list. I have to go find them in there and click on them again to view the link. Why are the links not opening directly in the browser window, the way you'd expect? I haven't changed any prefs or anything like that. I'm on Lion.
I just realized today that there are entries made in System.log (visible in Console) every 10 seconds. They are trying to run a MOTULauncher, which is probably some type of driver for a recording device I installed at one point but no longer use. Here are the entries in the log (the same repeats every 10 seconds):
4/22/09 1:14:53 AM com.apple.launchd[68] (com.motu.MOTULauncher[7164]) posix_spawnp("/System/Library/Extensions/MOTUFireWireAudio.kext/Contents/MacOS/MOTUFireWireConsoleLauncher.app/Contents/MacOS/MOTUFireWireConsoleLauncher", ...): No such file or directory 4/22/09 1:14:53 AM com.apple.launchd[68] (com.motu.MOTULauncher[7164]) Exited with exit code: 1 4/22/09 1:14:53 AM com.apple.launchd[68] (com.motu.MOTULauncher) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds 4/22/09 1:15:03 AM com.apple.launchd[68] (com.motu.MOTULauncher[7165]) posix_spawnp("/System/Library/Extensions/MOTUFireWireAudio.kext/Contents/MacOS/MOTUFireWireConsoleLauncher.app/Contents/MacOS/MOTUFireWireConsoleLauncher", ...): No such file or directory 4/22/09 1:15:03 AM com.apple.launchd[68] (com.motu.MOTULauncher[7165]) Exited with exit code: 1 4/22/09 1:15:03 AM com.apple.launchd[68] (com.motu.MOTULauncher) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
How to go about stopping this? I've been searching on my computer trying to find a configuration file or something, but I can't seem to find where this is being called.
I am giving a computer to a friend and he wants to keep a lot of my preferences, music, installed free software etc so I don't want to reinstall os x. However I would like to empty iCal of my entries for the past few years. I can't find anyway to do this other than individually deleting the entries which would take forever. Is there a way anyone knows for mass deleting iCal entries or restoring 'factory defaults'?
I use a Mac running OS X 10.4.11. This morning I tried opening my address book and got the "spinning pinwheel of death" that lasted 10-15 min. "Force Quit" wouldn't work, so I had to hard reboot. When I tried to open my address book all the entries were gone. I back up everything automatically continuously on an external hard drive and when I try to access the address book backup file, it says "You cannot open the application "Address book" because it may be damaged or incomplete".
I have 3 occurrencces of the same NAS one of which works perfectly, How do I remove the other 2? I have tried previous posted solutions but they keep on returning - I guess because the IP Address is valid and the device active. There must be a system file I can edit??
Contacts (Imac running Yosemite) won't let me save any new entries. I can input the new contact but once I quit and reopen Contacts the new entry is gone.
I have been using the 'Reading List' as a default Bookmark list as I find it more accessible than the old Bookmark system in Safari. After recently updating Safari my reading list has developed a bug. Firstly my entire list had disappeared (most annoying and inconvenient as I began rely on the list for my continuing study of important references in relation to my business) but I strangely I do get a multiple entry of my last used item. In fact the last time I opened up the list I had about ten duplications of the same bookmark. A recent example is below. My other references (which incidentally, courtesy of iCloud appear on my iPhone bookmarks) have disappeared.
I have tried Onyx, CleanMyMac, clearing LaunchServices.plist and loads of other things (too many to list) but when I right click on any file, I get the same entries repeated in the open with menu. i.e. Right Click an .avi and get Open With-> VLC, Quicktime, Other... Vlc, Quicktime, Other... VLC, Quicktime, Other...
Just started with MAC Snow Leopard and I have a question: Is there anyone who has already succeeded to delete address book entries/groups in Snow Leopard 10.6.2 ? I googled for no particular answers.
When right clicking I get a double 'Open with' menu. It's not double entries of programs, I literally get two working open with menus. Here's what I get: [URL]. I have cleaned up my 'Launch services' database, but it didn't work.
Ever since Icloud, everytime I enter an event it doubles, or triples the event. This occurs even with all but one of the calendar types checked. I would love to just delete those other types of calendar because I dont need 5 types of calendars. Things were working great until Icloud dammit Steve lol
