Safari :: Imported Bookmarks Disappear On Quit / Relaunch
Jul 1, 2012
After a clean OS X install (Snow Lpd updated to Lion) and all system updates, I have imported my old bookmarks (html created by Safari just couple of days back). After import they appear on the left panel as Imported xx.xx.2012.After relaunching Safari 5.1.7, the folder is gone. More than that, Safari won't retain any webpage bookmarked, they would all disappear when I quit (or relaunch) Safari.I have trashed the com.apple. Safari. plist file a few time already and emptied the trash, repaired disk permissions, but problem persists.†
MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), BTO 2.8Ghz, 7200RPM, antiglare
About a week ago after shutting down the night before and restarting the next morning I noticed about 100 of my bookmarks (saved over the years) had vanished from Safari (5.1.7) / OS X Lion. I replaced bookmarks.plist from Time Machine which brought them back but they disappear again once I add any new bookmark.†I've emptied cache, reset Safari and no joy.†The added trouble now is I have to keep adding bookmarks every day so now I need to preserve the new ones but still get the old ones back.
I restarting my computer after it crashed and now the book marks bar that appears above tabs has vanished? I've gone into preferences and made sure all the approperiate boxes are ticked and they are. Niether my top sites and reading list icons are there either? It's also doing funny things like a email wont open if I double click on it plus I'm sure I'll find more strange happenings as I go along. Is there a way you can set it back to the defuals like doing a system restore in windows?†
All my bookmarks in the bookmarks bar. I want to move them all so they are just in bookmarks menu dont want anything in bookmarks bar. I have edited renamed moved the bookmarks from bookmarks bar without a problem until I quite safari. Once I reopen safari all changes I made disappear and it reverts back to original with all bookmarks on bookmarks bar. what am I doing wrong that i cannot make permanent changes to my bookmark bar on Safari 5.1.3?
After my recovery drive went missing and trying to reinstall it, had to do a format of my hard drive and reinstall everything once I got OS X reinstalled and up-to-date, I tried to import my bookmarks from a backup bookmarks file, when I quit safari and re-open safari bookmarks were missing and default ones back in place. When searching though the forums for how to fix this problem but too know unluck they did not work.
My dock and menu disappear only when I am using Safari. They re-appear when I hover my mouse at the location that they should be at, but for some reason their default positions are to be hidden. The dock and menu are present for all other apps and when I'm on the desktop--basically whenever Safari isn't "chosen" as the active window. I have checked to make sure that Safari is NOT in Full Screen mode.
I'm having some issues with my Macbook Pro that just arose today. Randomly, when I'm on Safari, the screen will flash a little and the icons at the bottom will disappear. They will come back in a couple seconds and pop-ups that I usually only get when I first log on will appear. Safari also refreshes the page I was viewing. I did a little research and thought the issue might be google drive, but I do not have it installed on my Mac.
I've followed the usual instructions for deleting bookmarks but they keep showing up again every time I bring up Safari again. I've shut down the computer and reinstalled Safari without resolution of the problem. My OS is OS 10.6.
My Mac has been having some issues with "Kernel Panics" and after taking it to the Apple store and them finding nothing wrong with it while doing their tests, their advice was to just do a clean install without using the "migration helper" feature. I already know how to move over my music files, documents, etc. However, I have a ton of bookmarks saved and I'd hate to hate to build my bookmarks from scratch after doing a clean install of OS X. How can I save my bookmarks?
I have my iMac and MacBook set up to share files on my home network. What is the easiest way to share bookmarks. I have tried to copy the bookmarks from the Bookmarks folder in Home/ Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/Bookmarks. This does not seem to work well.
I find it incredibly useful in Firefox but I'm training myself to really get used to using Safari as my main browser. On a personal note, I'm glad I have a shaved head because I would've pulled out all of my hairs by now, trying to find this online. Searched everywhere. On here, Apple Support forums, Google, YouTube, you name it.
I am on a MacBook (OS 10.5.8) running Safari (4.0.3). All of a sudden I have noticed that when I try to set a new bookmark, it appears in the folder on the bookmark menu bar, until I shut down and then it disappears. However, when you go through the Bookmark Bar, through the open book icon, the bookmark is there.
I tried exporting the bookmark.plst and then deleting it from finder and trying to import them back. This resulted in the bookmarks appearing to be there, until I shut down safari. When I restarted, I was left with the default bookmarks. I then tried to restore Safari from a back up a month ago and one 6 months ago. This got me my old bookmarks back, but didn't solve the problem of the disappearing bookmarks.
I'm not sure how uninstalling safari and reinstalling.
Was autonotified that 2 updates were available: Safari 1.5.1 and iTunes. After the installation, all my Safari bookmarks, bookmark menu, bookmark bar are gone and reset to what looks like a default list. I am running the latest LION release/version...
I know I can back up from my Time Machine by going to ~/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist and restore.. however I can not locate the file?
I know that ~/Libray is hidden so I went to Finder and pressed option GO and library displayed... I then opened TIme Machine and attempted to find the bookmarks.plist under Safari on an older backed up copy and the file was not there..
