I've subscribed to a web-based service that allows me to view court documents online, but QuickTime won't let me view anything more than the first page of these tiff files. The regular version of QuickTime won't allow me to view multiple pages, even if I do uncheck tiff files in the settings. I'm using Google Chrome, but I can't seem to find a good plugin to view multiple tiff pages. The only way I can view multiple pages on a tiff file from this Internet program is to uninstall QuickTime. But if I do that I can't get iTunes to play. I'd go ahead and pay the $30 to upgrade to QuickTime Pro if I thought that would solve my problem, but I don't know if that will work. Does anyone know if QuickTime Pro will allow users to view multiple pages in a Tiff File?

Today I discovered that QTX does not play divx files anymore on my macbook even though I have perian installed. Whenever I try to play a divx file, a pop up appears saying I need to install QT7
What I already tried is:repair permissions;uninstall and reinstall perian;create another user-->same issue;get rid of QTX caches and preferences;restart the machine

how to open several avi. movie files I have downloaded onto my Mac (version 10.5). First, I tried to open them just simply on QuickTime player, but a got a 'this is not a movie file' error message, so I Google'd and found advice telling me to download VLC in order to open avi files to QuickTime player. So, I downloaded VLC and tried to open one of the files with that - except when it opened on VLC there was no video and only the audio sped up really fast (you know, where they sound like chipmunks xD) and then it stopped. So, baffled, I then tried to open it again on QuickTime, but got that error message again *
So I Google'd a bit more, and found advice telling me to download DivX Player, which should open/play avi files - so, I d/w'd it.... but alas, the files wouldn't play audio or video, it didn't seem to show up.
I've looked on the info when it's opened on VLC, and it describes the streams (not sure what these are) as having both mpga and mpgv codecs.... so do I need to download a program that can open these files? Is there a codec program I need still?
* OR, am I not using VLC player correctly?
I have a concert I recorded and I would like to extract the audio from either the MPEG-2 file or the DIVX file. Is there any program that will extract either the AC3 or MP3 audio? If it is the AC3, what else do I need to use to convert it to MP3 or AAC or WAV?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Mac OS X 10.4.11 and use Firefox. I keep getting a message that QuickTime 7.6.6 plug in is out of date. I have done the software update and it shows no current updates available. Certain videos won't play and it says that this may make my computer vulnerable.

I'm trying to run a site for uni through Safari and it tells me that safari cannot find the internet plug-in. then it says this...
This page has content of MIME type application/x-director, but you dont have a plug-in for this MIME type. This page may have the plug-in for you to download and install.
I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post this query - moderately new user - well had my imac for 2 years but havent spent a lot of time getting up to speed with it - needs basis only.
query - i have eyetv elgato about 2 years old running vers 2.5.3 of the related software - I have a hard disc full of recorded material and want to convert it to divx - bought Divx Pro - mind you only $30 Australian- in the understanding that it would easily and quickly!! (toast takes about 3 days!) convert .eyetv files to divx avi - that function is available on the pull down menu in eyetv and it did it once when i used a trial version of Divx Pro.
Now it refuses to do it saying that the version i have is not supported and to go back to divx - i have the latest version of divx though.
I do notice that eyetv are selling their own divx converter for $100 and suspect this may be the issue
Does anyone else have this problem or know a workaround to it - do i have to go back to older versions??
Divx have told me that they dont have any agreements with or information about eyetv and to go and ask eyetv. Eyetv have not so far responded to my requests for an answer.
i've decided that I absolutely hate everything about the QuickTime X plugin that comes in Snow Leopard. It seems to only show up when playing certain types of media (MP3, H.264), but I'd like to know if there's a way to use the old plugin for everything.
There are no words for how much I hate this thing. The back 30 seconds button looks stupid and is largely useless, the bar looks really fat and the play button is huge. More importantly, I can't change playback speed, and the "Save As..." feature is gone. I paid for the Pro version of this plugin and now Apple has rendered it useless for everything but straightforward playback on a good deal of the files I encounter daily.
Does anyone know of some way to force everything to open with the old plugin? I've thought of switching /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.plugin with the old one from Leopard, but I don't have it anymore and I'm not even convinced that this would work.
With the advent of the PS3 getting Divx subtitle support in it's latest firmware revision, I'm trying to encode a Divx file to add subtitles. I can't for the life of me find a Mac application that will add a subtitle stream to a Divx file - usually this results in the creation of a .divx file. (.divx file containers support multiple audio and subtitle stream, and that is the format the PS3 requires the file to be in to play back the subtitles).
I do not want to "burn in" the subtitles to the video stream as this would require transcoding the video, which I do not want to do (time consuming, and can ruin a perfectly good encode). I've found the following programs for Windows, but can't seem to find a Mac equivalent:
http://www.calcitapp.com/AVIAddXSubs.php
http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAviSub.php?b2=1
http://userxp.tripod.com/sub2divx.htm
As you can see by those bits of software, they simply take the avi file, the srt file and combines them into a .divx file with no transcoding. Has anyone got a similar solution for the mac world? I tried using the AVIAddXSubs via Darwine but it didn't seem to work.
I have read 10 - 20 topics about this problem and have found NO solution. First problem: Quicktime Plugin.plugin was missing.Solution: Using Pacifist I extracted the Quicktime Plugin.plugin and installed it to hd/library/internet plug-insResult: Still not workingÂ
Quicktime version: 10.0
Safari version: 5.1.2Â
I am very frustrated about this problem, their seems to be no solution and I have no idea what to do,

so i intentionally/accidentally deleted my qt plugins in safari trying to solve a player issue. anyway i have spent 24 hrs reading alllllll the posts and kind find a solution to my new problem. i have QTX and QT7 loaded on the mac snow leopard. this was working before i deleted the plugins. after reinstalling the QT 7, the plugins are in the internet plugin folder in both my main and user library, but Safari refuses to acknowledge their presences and simply says "plugin missing" when i go to webpage with embeded media or tries to download the .mov from another site. The plugins while in the library, are NOT listing in the Safari installed plugin list.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI switched from PC to iMac last week . I am very excited by the performance of Mac OSX and display of the new 21.5" iMac. The only problem I face is that quicktime movies are not played in safari/firefox. Safari waits indefinitely for loading the quicktime movie , firefox shows a big 'Q ?'. Don't know what that means.
This frustrating because I can't view any of the tutorial movies in the apple website. It is ironic that apple's own format is not playing on the new iMac.
The OS is Mac OSX 10.6.2 . Flash is playing well in the same machine. I am new to mac .
I'm currently having is with the Quicktime 7.7.1 plugin for Firefox. I use Firefox 12, running on OS Lion, and this plugin has some sound issue with a particular site I like to visit. When playing audio midis, it sounds tinny and plunky / compressed.I did not have this problem before Lion, but the plugin does work fine on other sites. I tried to delete the Quicktime app. thinking it somehow became corrupted, but I may be wrong. I had my data transferred from my old mac to the new one I have now. I don't know if that could have affected the QT plugin somehow or what.

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.5 with Google Chrome dev version 10.0.612.3. To access your plugins within Chrome, type "aboutlugins" into the omnibox. Then to the right, click on the "+ Detail". Scroll down to see your Quicktime Plugin version. The reason I am asking is as you can see, Chrome says I have an outdated Quicktime Plugin. I followed their link to Apple's Quicktime download page but Apple only offers Quicktime for 10.5 - 10.5.8 ,version 7.6.9 for Leopard. [URL] Anyone able to clear this up?
It says I have to "download a critical security update" for my Quicktime Plugin as you can see from the attachment. The reason this has come to by attention is because the Facebook chat sound notification does NOT work while using Chrome. I did some googling and found that Quicktime may be the problem for the Facebook chat sound notification to not work. So if I do indeed have the latest Quicktime player (7.6.6), then why isn't the sound notification for Facebook not working? Maybe because of something else?
i currently using snow leopard and i have deleted my quicktime plugin in the process of deleting unwanted internet plugin. As a result, quicktime cannot be play on safari. if you have any suggest plz tell me, i will try it. thx
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running two Xservers, one of them, our primary open directory server also hosts a roaming profile folder. I need to create some type of script or program that would allow me to make a daily copy of that folder on the second Xserver. In the PC world, this would be easily done through a batch file, and simply setting it up as a scheduled task, but I am not sure how to go about it in a MAC environment.

Yesterday, Safari began crashing every 45 minutes. I get a message that says Safari quit unexpectedly because of a plug-in called .MasterofDefense.tmp. I used finder to search my computer, and I cannot find this file.  PlugIn Path: /Users/<myname>/Library/Application Support/.MasterofDefense.tmpPlugIn Identifier: .MasterofDefense.tmpPlugIn Version:   ??? (???) The file is NOT in that location mentioned in the crash log. According to web searches, MasterofDefense is some game, but I have never installed any games on my machine.Â

I was wondering if there was a way to use the iPhone's audio jack as an external jack for the macbook pro via USB or so, as i own the 13 inch model, that only offers one jack.
I want to use garage band just trying out a bit and i'd need an extra jack for the headphones, otherwise the microphone will record what's played over the internal speakers.
EDIT: I forgot to say that I already tried things like AirPhones, meaning wireless stream to iphone. But there's unfortunately few moments of latency, so i hardly can use it for recording.
Quicktime 7 opened my transformers.mov file just fine, but now it won't open under snow leopard.

I'm on a PC, inspiron 1420, and attempting to watch a video in Quicktime. I needed to download the xvid component to Quicktime, and the component is in a .dmg file. I'm unable to open the .dmg file
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe underlying issue here as well is that iDVD won't recognize this file either.
My wife works for a TV station and one of the editors at the station put a video file together with Final Cut Pro and put it on our external hard drive.
The file is just over 3 gig and won't open in Quicktime. It WILL open in VLC, but I need to get it in a format that iDVD will recognize because I created a DVD menu for this video and want to add it to my DVD project.
I have some other videos she recently brought home as well in the same .mov format but they are smaller, around 800 MB and those will not play in Quicktime either, but they are recognized by iDVD when I try to add a video the DVD project.
I'm guessing I'm missing a codec here and have tried a number of them but nothing seems to work. I was able to find a free converter that converted the file to .avi and it would then open in Quicktime, but there was a logo added to the video which makes it basically useless to us.
So my questions are-
1) Is it simply too big a file for Quicktime to play? What is the max file size it will play?
2) Is there possibly a codec I'm missing here that I haven't tried yet?
3) What else could the problem be?
I am trying to watch a .avi file, and there is no sound for the particular clip.
However, other .avi files are working and give both video and audio.
this one however is only producing video. is there a plug-in or something i need to download?
Was wondering if someone out there can help me. When I get an email with an attachment & I opened it, it used to get saved on my desktop, but now goes to 'Downloads' after I installed SL. How do I change it back to download to mu desktop??
Now when I try to view a .wmv file it says that I do not have Quicktime player, which I do. I have to open the file via Quicktime & searching for it in my downloads folder. Have looked at the settings & appears to be OK....
