How do you unplug the wire that goes to the front of the card? The wire is attached to a metal plug that swivels around and plugs into the airport card. I tried tugging on it, but it seems like it is bolted on there.

I would like to upgrade my 17" Powerbook G4 to wireless n, but I'd like to upgrade the internal airport extreme card instead of using a PC Card adapter.

I'm going to purchase an old iBook 700MHz and I know it's possible to remove it's wireless AirPort card, but it will the iBook run okay without the network card in place?I want to remove it but the Apple support docs have the following disclaimer:Warning: Never turn on your computer unless all of its internal and external parts are in place and it is fully reassembled. I plugged in the card and attached the antenna to the card and tuned on the mac. But when i try to find a wifi network (mine for example) it won't connect. Im using a DIR-655 Dlink router. i have mixed mode emabled (802.11b/g/n) and WPA-Personal Encryption (AES Cypher)
Why is it not connecting?
PS the message i get when i connect is "There was an error connecting to network [network name]"

I need to reseat my Airport Extreme card and I don't know where it is or how to do it on this "mid-2005" model. Please point me to the appropriate URL that has diagrams. For some reason, the "mid 2005" g4 iBooks have a different Airport card removal and replacement procedure than the earlier models. Because, I suppose, airport cards were standard, i.e., not optional, with this model, the install process is not included in the manual. But you'd think that all I'd have to do is search the Apple site for "g4 ibook 1.33 airport card" or similar keywords and the instructions for removal and installation would be returned. My friend that sold it to me said that her wireless always had a really weak signal but in recent time, unless she was in the same room as the router it was really hard to get a decent connection. She said she took it to an Apple store but her Apple care was expired and they said they'd have to send it out for 5-7 days. Today I just tried it out at home, where I normally (as well as everyone else in the house) have full signal from our router, this computer gets a bar or two max.
I was adding in some more RAM to it so I figured I'd take it the rest of the way apart. So, in doing so carefully because I could not find a diagram at all that matched this computer, I found that there is not a Airport Extreme card in the computer at all. Is that right? Is the wireless built in now? (or maybe for that year). Is this a common problem that the signal fades?
I sort of, well, inadvertently bought an old Clamshell iBook on eBay on Christmas Day (when I'm bored, I make lowball bids on things - this was one of the rare cases where I won). The model I got is a 300 Mhz with 96 Megs of Ram - but it also has an Airport Card (which, really, was, itself, worth the price I paid for the thing - it was a really good price).
I've got an extra 256 Meg chip laying around - will the Clamshell recognize a PC133 chip? Or will it have the same problem as Lombard and only see half the memory? Also - am I better off putting, say, Panther on it, or should I do a clean install of OS 9.2? I never really used OS 9.2, what's the functionality like in terms of Airport - am I going to have trouble connecting to modern networks?
I currently own a G4 PowerBook running OS X 10.2.8 (archaic, I know) which I use as a word processor. I want to set it up to recieve my friend's 802.11 wireless signal (with his permission), which is sent out by a base station tied to a Windows machine. Two questions I have:
First, will an Apple PowerBook and Airport card be able to receive a signal from a Windows machine (I don't see why not, but...)?
Secondly, I seem to only be able to find the AirPort Extreme card on the Apple Store. Will the Extreme card plug and play with my notebook, or not? Are there any good third-party cards that I can buy that will work well if not?
Right recently I took my airport card out of my emac to see if it was normal or extreme (it be extreme). I took the antenna off it then examined it then I put it back in the same way it said on apples website. It seemed simple enough .But no! It didn't work! now my emac does not even pick up the card, it said its not installed! Seriously I've tried everything! even forcing it in and even acupuncture (not really just thought it was funny) right so my airport cards not working.

I followed the instructions here: [URL] to a T, and no luck. System Profiler doesn't recognize the card. So, I decided to take the card out and put it back in while the computer was on. The computer came up with the black screen that says I need to restart the computer; however, upon restart it still doesn't recognize the card.

View 3 Replies View Relatedyes, I think my wireless card is locking my ibook up. I have tried this on 2 browsers, and still gets locked up. I am usually using tabs (only 2 or 3) with the window maximized. I turned it off and looked at the connection. Noticed that the cord connecting the card might be crimped, so unplugged it, re-positioned the cord so it wasn't touching the metal bracket holding the card in place, and still the issue persists.

Anyway, I was thinking about upgrading the airport card in my powerbook to extreme, so I pulled out the battery and flipped the latch to find that the plastic tab to pull it out is missing. I sense a pain to get it out now, I haven't tried, though. Any tips on how to get the card out of its compartment without bending the aluminum etc? Also, there is a tiny nip in the little cable that plugs into the back of the card, I can't tell how bad it is, the WiFi works but doesn't that cable connect the card to the antennas on the top of the LCD on the system or worse.. to the logic board?

The bluetooth/airport extreme card for my PCI-e Dualcore 2.0ghz G5. I'm happy to install it myself. However I am leaving to go back to the UK on jan 31st, and sweetwater don't actually stock the item, and it will take a while to get it to me unless they expedite it from Apple and charge an extra $42 or so, which is too much for me. Anyone know who might actually stock the item and be able to send it out quickly?

I was wondering if I could upgrade to Tiger using the Tiger install disks that I got with the imac c2d or is there an issue with this being a laptop and ppc ? I really dont have much of a clue about this kind of stuff with a mac, when I upgrade to Tiger I would also like a fresh install, there are no files I wish to keep, this presented a problem with my old xp laptop for drivers. Will the same happen when I upgrade the ibook? Should I format the HDD before attempting to upgrade to Tiger? If so how do I do this?

I needed it to have wireless for when I bring it home over the summer (Im at school now and we have ethernet cables) so I bought an airport extreme off ebay for about $20.
I followed the instructions (Held the door down, turned it off, installed it and plugged the antenna in) and turned it back on. No Airport symbol appeared at the top.
I searched a little bit, its running 10.3.9 and so i found it requires a driver (it didnt come with a CD).
I installed the Driver, restarted it and still nothing. I even made sure it was installed properly, and as far as I can tell everything is hooked in ok.
The guy who sold it to me is supposedly sending me an install of Tiger, would that help it recognize it? Im not really placing all my eggs in one basket either that he'll send it to me, any suggestions?
I recently purchased a G3 ibook from USA. I am in the Uk and have managed to connect to wi-fi internet at home, but when I go to the studio I cannot connect. The network does show up, then I enter the password and it keeps saying "password is incorrect". But it isn't - so is there a problem with the compatibility of my Airport card and is there anything I can do?Below is the spec of my laptop.

Just today my eMac stopped recognizing the Airport Extreme Card. I tried restarting, reseting PRAM and the PMU, and pulling the card in and out.
