It would appear that the new iPhoto app that is being prepared for cross-platform use is being optimzed for cross-platform as iWork applications have been. The tools for altering photos only has a fraction of the tools currently available in Aperture (and even less than available in platforms like Lightroom. There had been hope that with the new iMac Pro that there was going to be a supercharged version of Aperture...but no mention at that role out, nor in today's WWDC.

I want to download apple developer tools XCode on my iMac, but it says I need a later version of OSX. What are the downsides to installing the later version (Lion?). I currently have OS X version 10.6.8 on my iMac and it says I'm required to install version 10.7.3 or later. By the way, is the updated version provided free or do I have to buy it? I'm looking to do all of this so I can start to develop an App for my iPad..

Apple's Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system will include tools borrowed from the iPhone that let developers determine the geographical location of Macs, as well as extend additional support for multi-touch to their apps, AppleInsider has learned. People familiar with the latest pre-release distributions of the next-gen OS say the software now includes the CoreLocation framework previously available via the iPhone SDK, which will allow Mac applications to identify the current latitude and longitude of the Macs on which they're running. Since Macs don't include GPS technology like the iPhone 3G, CoreLocation will utilize a Mac's existing networking hardware to triangulate the system's location in a manner similar to the way the original iPhone was able to use the technology to emulate a true global positioning signal. AppleInsider first revealed plans for the new multi-touch framework in a an article from last June titled "Five undisclosed features of Apple's Mac OS X Snow Leopard." The report noted that the framework would "consist of code libraries and functions that ordinary developers can use to enhance their applications with the same multi-touch capabilities currently available in Apple-born apps like Safari and iPhoto, and do so with ease." Every 5 minutes the keyboard freezes for about 15 seconds. My Mighty Mouse and tablet connected to the keyboard won't work as well. I have tried to connect it to other usb ports but there's no difference at all. Please help, as this issue is really frustrating..
After a lot of erratic behavior with my dual 2ghz g5, I ran the apple hardware test. When testing RAM it gives me the following error message each time I run the extended test:

I'm wondering how to interpret this exactly which RAM is bad (more specifically where is it?) I'm wondering if there is a diagram out there so I can relate this an exact location on my computer.
I have a 2005 G5 PowerMac. It has been locking up lately. Tonight it will not boot. Everytime I turn it on I get to the apple screen and the circle keeps going round and round. I then followed the directions to reset the PMU and I disconnected the second hard drive. Now it will still not boot and gets to the apple screen, circles a couple of times then locks up. I have disconnected everything except the monitor, keyboard and mouse and still have the same problem. The largest issue is the CD drive will not open so I cannot attempt to reload the OS or anything else that requires the CD drive. I do not know if there is a manual way to open the drive. I have searched the help forums and only see the keyboard as an option. I have read many posts that the 9800 video card is a problem - we have an ATI 800 XT and I have not read anything hear about that card being an issue.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had the computer for over a year. It is currently insured with the Applecare. It seems like the adapter's cord is starting to show some normal wear-and-tear. It still works (i.e., still charging my computer), but I'm afraid that it will either rip or cause a short sometime. I've never dinged the charger. It just seems like the coiling made it come apart. See the picture below. Will Apple replace this under the warranty, or will I have to rake out $80 for a new one if this one gives way? image: [URL] I just got off the phone with an Apple rep, and he will be shipping me a new adapter. I'll just have to send him back the damaged one.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI got home tonight, placed my MBP on my BookArc after plugging in the Display port adapter, USB, Firewire and Magsafe to then realise that I couldn't turn on my MBP without taking it off the cradle, opening it and pressing the on button! "This can't be right" was what went through my mind, but is it? There surely must be a way to turn on a MBP when it is attached to an Apple Cinema display and a USB Apple Keyboard while in the closed clamshell state. Surely there's a key-combination.

My iMac 24 inch freezes on the apple startup screen, then it takes along time for the cog wheel to start turning, and then that's all you'll get untill you switch off. I've fixed permissions and erased and reinstalled but still same issues, any ideas for what to do next?

I'm one of the $200 suckers who bought an iPhone. For my $100 "rebate" I bought the new USB AppleKeyboard. I'm typing on it now. But when I first plugged it into the USB port, I got an error message like this: "The USB port is drawing too much power and it will be disabled." This is the same port the computer's original keyboard was plugged into and it worked fine. Now it's dead. The port is one of two USB ports on the back of my (original) Cinema Display. It's still dead. The AppleKeyboard is plugged into the second USB port now, and it works fine. But I thought I'd alert someone at Apple that this happened. Further, I'd like my USB port back but cannot find anywhere in the help files how to re-enable it. Unless it's fried, of course. But then again, how could the keyboard fry the port?

I'm trying to repair a Powermac G5 (dual 2.0, the first model I believe, with a new Radeon 9800 graphics card) that won't boot and I'm having some problems that I can't seem to diagnose.
The machine will boot to the openfirmware prompt or target disc mode and will show the 'OS not found' icon if left to boot from the HD (which has been wiped). If I try to boot from either the included restore disc or a retail 10.4 DVD I've tried it will show the boot screen with the Apple logo on it but no spinning status indicator underneath. It just freezes on that screen. Once it showed the status indicator but it just continued to spin for about 30 mins, at which point I gave up. Same issue if I try to boot the hardware test (except it freezes on the hardware test loading icon rather than the Apple icon). The superdrive appears to work as it is accessible in target disc mode.
I've reset the SMU and reset the PRAM via the keyboard shortcut. The one thing that leads me to think it's a firmware fault is that when I run the 'reset-nvram' command it gives an OK, but when I then run 'reset-all' it freezes rather than rebooting. Any ideas anyone?

I have an Apple 4-pin to 6-pin FW 400 cable and was wondering if this would power the hard drive? The FW400 cable that it comes with has a USB2.0 and FW400 split, which is leaving me to believe that it may need to draw power from the USB bus. Does anyone know if it will draw this solely from one FW 400 cable?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhilst working on my iMac as per normal, I get this little window that pops up declaring that a USB decice is drawing too much power from my computer and as as a result, one or more of my USB devices has been disabled.
This is not an alien dialogue box to me, I have seen it many times. The problem this time is that, when I removed all my devices to see which one was causing the message to pop up, I discovered that it was my keyboard that was misbehaving.
When the message pops up it states that the offending device has been disabled. This cannot be the case however, as I am able to press enter to close it, and if the keyboard truly is the problem then I shouldn't be able to close it with enter because it would have been disabled... right?
Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My keyboard is the standard wired + number pad one shipped free with new iMacs. It's not a custom one, it's apple stock through and through.
The baffling thing is that this has only just occured. In the year or two since I bought my iMac it's never been a problem.
Yes I have tried using a different USB slot, and no that doesn't fix it.
This box keeps popping up unless I disconnect my keyboard which of course is no way to use the computer, and I don't have a spare keyboard handy.

This machine has been running fine. I installed ilife8 - had eyeTV running. It was slow, hanging, unhappy so I rebooted. It took a long time but eventually restarted - got the chime and after a few seconds the white screen/grey apple. No spinning wheel - no nothing. After a few minutes the CPU fans slowly go to full scream. Have to hold power switch to shut down. Won't go into single user mode, won't boot CD (can't even get the CD out of the machine, but the dvd never spins up). I've pulled all the memory except the original apple mem. I've tried my Kinston mem. There is nothing else in the machine that isn't pure apple.
