I have two user accounts. On my one account (the main one) Safari works fine but on the other account just today it started loading real slow. then once it finally pops up with the home apple screen and you click anything, the wheel spins and spins for like 3 min then safari quits unexpectedly. When i click to report to apple and then send it, again the wheel spins for a long time and then it says it was unable to send to apple please check internet connection and try again. But, there is nothing wrong with my internet connection because if i switch to my other account internet works just fine!
View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes, when I try to turn off my computer, it doesn't shut down. It would either quit all programs (including finder) and just show the wallpaper, or it would go to the blue-ish screen (a normal phase in the shutdown process) and the wheel on the bottom would spin forever. In either case, the computer just freezes at that point and I have to power cycle it manually.
I noticed that this occurs more frequently if I don't restart it for a couple of days (3-4 days max), but my friends are able to go on without a restart for 2-3 weeks at a time. I tried reinstalling OS X to no avail. I now also quit all my programs manually before I try to shutdown (don't know if they affect anything) but that does not appear to help. I'm using a late 2008 MBP with OS X 10.6.5 (10H574)
Sometimes when I am on the internet I see a colored wheel that spins and I am unable to go the the next page. I also noticed that sometimes the computer is slow. Csn this happen because I upgraded to Mac OS X? Never saw this before.

I'll cover the background to when this started happening.
I took my macbook out of an outer case to clean the shell itself.
I used wet ones which have alcohol so I wasn't worried, but also wasn't careless.
I once got a screen that said I needed to restart my computer. So I did.
I have a Powerbook G4 17 that I have been working on. I recently replaced the screen and verified that it worked prior to buttoning it back up. When buttoning the powerbook back up, I nicked two wires with screws. One was part of the LCD wire that comes from the LCD itself. The second was the airport wire that is wrapped around the screen. I wrapped them back up with a cover and preceeded to get using my comp again. Once finally put back together, I could not get it to turn on.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to repair a macbook pro for a friend, I think it's the logic board, but I wanted to check with you all before I go buy one. When the battery is fully charged, I press the power button, I hear the hard drive spin for about 5 seconds then stop. The superdrive on it is broken so I can't try the restore disk. I ordered Pram, I am going to replace that. I tried two different hard drives and I know they are both good, I tried them in the macbook and through a usb port, and the same thing happened both times.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes not boot, I hear chimes, fan spins black screen.
Tried to reboot with OSX disc holding c. I'm lucky I got my disk out?
I've noticed recently that when my imac is sleeping it's HDD spins up, crunches a bit like it does and then power down again. The screen and everything else is off, just the HDD comes on. Does anyone know what this could be? It's happened a couple of times in the last week. It's the Seagate drive BTW.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo my girlfriend boss wanted me to fix her computer. So I brought it home turned it on, and it didnt chime but it booted to the gray screen with apple logo/ slashed circle/and folder with a "?" So I made a USB Mac OS x bootable drive (FLASH) held down alt (try using a windows keyboard its fun) was able to select option and install a fresh copy. all seemed well was running really hot so I poped of the screen. HOLY MOLY! this thing is CAKED with dust, and I am not kidding it has literally piles of dust. So I ran updates, and did firmware updates. Turned it off for the night. Â
The next morning I went to radio shack and got Dust remove spray, opened it up made sure I was carful taking off the screen, and blew the sucker out. now its NICE and CLEAN. then i made sure I plugged everything in and turned it on. Drive spun like normal, Optical checked for a CD, and fans are also running normally. but no chime, no nothing stays as silent as normal but doesnt budge, it is like it hangs. Â

i just get the apple logo and a turning wheel on start up.

I have a Mac Mini bought in 2005. It has Tiger OS. When I turn it on a white screen appears with the Mac symbol and a wheel continues to rotate and nothing happens.
Ive read some similar problems saying to select keys like Apple + Alt + P + R but Im using a Non-Mac Keyboard so I dont have the (Apple) key.
I have a very old IMac which I purchased back in 2005, and has been working fine. I have left it in storage about 1 and 1/2 years ago. Just now I try to restart it, the screen is forever stuck in the grey screen with the spinning wheel. I tried many times off-on, hold down the apple function key but none worked. I no longer have the rebooting CD with me. I wonder whether the computer can still be saved? I have already backed up the contents so it doesn't matter if fixing the computer requires me to delete all my old files. I think it's tiger or earlier that it's using.

my 2006 macbook has not been able to start. First it didn't even have the chime, then I read through some threads in this forum and figured out that one of my RAMs was not properly put in. I fixed that, now I get the chime, the apple sign, and a spinning wheel and I am stuck there forever.
I tried:
resetting PRAM, didn't help.
start from safe boot, still stuck with apple sign and spinning wheel.
boot from installation CD by holding either the "C" or "D" key, it would not start from the CD.
Curiously, I can start it in Windows and I am using Windows right now. Some threads said that it could be a hard drive problem, but if I am using Windows, does it mean that my hard drive is fine?
I've already spent 800+ fixing the logic board in 2008 b/c of a water spill and really don't want to spend any meaningful amount of money to fix this 1000 bucks or so laptop. If any hardware is in jeopardy, I'd rather just throw it away. However, I would like to at least be able to start it in Mac OS once so that I can back up my documents.
My daughter's old I Mac won't start. It is not backed up. We want to get some things off of it if we can. When we turn it on, we get the Apple logo with spinning wheel for awhile, then a question mark briefly and then a sky blue blank screen. Is there any hope of getting this to work? This computer is out of warranty. Does it seem that if we reinstall the Operating System we might find old data? Â

I have 2 MBP's, a Mac Pro, and a Mac Mini. On all of these I use a Logitech Trackman Wheel with. I updated the first 3 machines to Snow Leopard and the Logitech Trackman Wheel continued to work fine. I then upgraded the last MBP to Snow Leopard. For some reason the scroll wheel no longer works on the Logitech Trackman Wheel. I am able to use the ball to move around the screen, the buttons still work, but the scroll wheel won't work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, I know I've had 2 discussions here already but it still doesn't make sense to me. Everything says its a bad Logic Board. Ok, Power Mac A1074 2.0 DP It hangs at white screen w/ grey apple logo and no spinning wheel. I have ran the Apple hardware diagnostics disc several tims. Everything comes back that all hard ware is GOOD. I try and run the OS diagnostics on the same disc and it hangs at the white screen/grey apple logo. I have replaced the hard drive and started it holding 'option"it reads the Apple OS Install disc (just as it reads the hardware diagnostic disc just fine) when I try to boot from the install disc it again hangs at the white screen/grey apple logo with no spinning wheel.

I have a 1.8GHz G5 that will just not boot up. When I start it I get the grey screen with the Apple logo and nothing else. The fan then fires up and up. Have tried starting it in Safeboot mode. In this mode I can hear the initial chime and some activity for about 5-6 secs and then nothing. I have an extra 2GB of Kingston RAM in the machine that I put in a couple of years ago and apart from this nothing has changed apart from upgrading the OS's.

It was checked with another power cord too, no power at all. The battery has been replaced, still no luck. Who can repair it? I called a guy, he said to change the logic board that "could be" the problem is too expensive. Advice: donate to Salvation army......Nice, right.? I love this machine, even I have a brand new iMac, iPad, PowerBook, u name it! but it runs the Classic and I have all my files written by this op.. System.

I will start up my G5 and I hear the chime but at that point my CRD monitors never come on. The lights on my USB hub don't light up, either. Then my G5 fans rev up really high. I have to hold down the power button to get it to shut off, then after waiting around 10 seconds I'll try to turn it on again. After several times of repeating this process, my monitors finally kick on, the USB hub lights up and all is fine for the rest of the day. But it's really aggravating having to do this up to five times to get things going. It's like the G5 isn't communicating to the monitors or the USB hub.
Could this be a motherboard issue? It shouldn't be a power issue, as the only thing plugged into my battery backup APC is the tower itself. I'm at a loss here...

I have a G5 dual processor ((I think its a 2.5) running Tiger. I had it stored for several months and when I brought it out it won't start.. No response at all to pushing button..
Cord is good as it will power my display.
I received a semi working powerMac G4 Cube from a freecycle community, and while initially it worked fine, I had to dissemble the unit to replace the dvd drive which had a dvd stuck in it. I used one from a second unit that I was also given and I think the dvd is also bad , as placing the 'software installer', which I presume is OS9, causes dvd unit to make what sounds like spinning noise ( Does not sound to me like its reading anything ), and then after a few seconds it spits it right back out, and this happens everytime. Before I dissembled the unit, the cube at least booted into OS9 just fine, yet I am sure I put everything back properly. I might have chosen a bad setting in system perferences I suppose, and if so is there a fix short of getting a new dvd unit so I can reinstall OS 9 ? Also, I did try 'control' while startup, and it takes me to a very odd screen, with a icon for 'reload' ( browser icon similarity ) , or what looks like a right arrow. Choosing either does nothing, short of showing what looks like a watch moving in circular fashion.

why I can not see the startup manager in a PowerMac G3 B & W when the computer start?
View 12 Replies View RelatedMy G5 has been making more noise at start up. It sounds like one of the fans is making a grinding "rrrrrrhhhh" noise. My living space if very cold and quite dusty (warehouse). I notice it more on colder mornings ( inside temp 45° - 65°F ). Should I refrain from using my machine on cold mornings/nights until the heat is running?

I've got a strange issue with my PowerMac dual 1.8GhZ and I can't figure out where it's coming from.Last Saturday I experienced a Kernell Panic while using Safari and the Dictionary (MacOS 10.5.1).Since then, whenever I try to start my computer, it shuts itself down while the grey screen with the Apple logo is on screen. However, this isn't always the case:I can use my computer 'normally' if I press the option key at start-up and manually choose my startup disk.
I can boot from a Panther or Tiger installation disk, but not Leopard. If I try the hardware test the computer shuts itself down in the middle of the test.TechTool works and didn't find any issues with my computer. Nor did Disk Utility.I tried to erase both my internal hard-drives and do a clean install of Tiger, but the problem is still there (I have to press option at startup).I tried to reset the PRAM and Cuda/PMA. Doesn't resolve the issue. When I tick 'Restart automatically after power failure' in Energy Saver my Mac will indeed restart, meaning it thinks there was a power failure.Any idea what it might be? And why it only happens in certain situations?Do you think it's a hardware or a software issue?

When I start my computer up in the morning everything else starts normally. First the light comes on on the front of the computer and on the bottom of the monitor, then the start up tone rings and the computer is fully running. But my monitor is black and I do not get the apple picture or nothing on the screen. I thought my monitor was going out, but we have another work station the same and I switched the monitors (same 27" cinema screen as mine). I can actually use the other computer and network into my computer and fully use everything on my computer. But my monitor is black (no display)! I have contacted MAC and have reset the PMU button many times and sometimes this works, but most of the time it does not. I just keep restarting the computer and finally it will start up normally with the display and everything.

I am the original owner of a Power mac G5 dual 2.0 I purchased this machine in april of 2004 and it has been working nearly non stop ever since. Recently I put it into sleep mode and when I came back it had powered down and would not start up. I assume it's the power supply and I would like to know if there is anyway to tell what type of power supply and model thereof without tearing down the machine.
