OS X :: Vga To Dvi Adaptor?
Jan 5, 2010
I gave him my Mac Mini (it was one of the first ones out, several years ago), so we can communicate a little easier, and just because it's time he goes Mac! Anyway he gets home and tells me I forgot the vga to dvi adaptor. >.< I had forgotten its existence since I never used it... Is this: it? The code on the package is 603-0607. I googled that code, and did find something about DVI, but I figure it can't hurt to ask, before I go and mail a package all the way out there. Does that look like what came with the old minis?

I am looking to connect my macbook pro to an Acer G24 monitor, but am not sure what best way to do it.The resolution of the monitor is 1920x1200, and it is a 24" screen, with VGA, DVI, and HDMI ports. My macbook pro is the late 2011 entry model.
Will there be a difference in the quality of the picture on my external monitor, depending on whether I connect using a HDMI cable or a DVI cable? I will have to buy an adapter for each of these, to plug into the mini DVI port on my mac, will this alter the quality of the picture at all? If I were to buy an Apple Tv, would I be able to plug it straight into my monitor using a HDMI cable? If so, how would I manage the audio, as my monitor does not have speakers. Would using a thunderbolt cable (with HDMI adaptor) increase the quality of the picture of my monitor?
Info:
MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4), Apple TV, Thunderbolt, Monitor

I'm looking for something quick, cheap and easy to hook up a standard IDE hard drive to my iMac via USB. I have an Adaptec enclosure, but I really don't wanna open it up just to format a hard drive, or grab data from one.

i want to connect my macbook to a VGA screen, I have the macbook, I have the screen, I even have the adaptor (it's the one which came with the Macbook). The thing I really don't understand is why this adaptor cable is only about 3 inches long. I can't even find one which is longer. Surely I am not the only person who has encountered a problem with this - the VGA socket on the monitor I have is more than 3 inches up from the base so I literally cannot use this cable without half-lying the monitor down. Clearly this is ridiculous and not how it was intended to be, but how do people make this work?! As I say, Irealise this probably sounds stupid, but I am completely baffled by the total absurdity of it as well.

Before I buy my first Macbook Pro Unibody, I want to know if I can get analog output from the DVI adaptor? On the old early 2008 Macbook Pro, you could just plug in a DB15 VGA adaptor into the DVI port. Can I use the same adaptor with the DVI adaptor to get analog out?? Talking about DVI - is the 17" and big 15" models the only only models that can drive at display with resolution higher than 1920x1200?

I thought I'd write this brief how-to incase anybody else ever needed the information. I have bought 3 power cords/connectors/adaptors for my iBook in the last three years - crazy, right? I stepped on the tip of the first one by accident, and was unable to bend in back into shape. The second one (a third party version by MacAlley) spontaneously conked on me, the brick stopped worked. And more recently my third, another third party bought cheap off eBay because I was fed up of paying, developed a connection issue somewhere in the wire (it worked fine, then I had to fiddle with the wire to get it to work, then it stopped working). With all these broken connectors sitting around, I figured there must be a way to solder them together and avoid paying another 30$ on eBay and being without a laptop for 2 weeks.
STEP ONE:
Assemble all the broken adaptors you have, asses what works with what.
- I took the brick from the original which was working fine and the tip from the 2nd cord (the one where the brick stopped working)
STEP TWO:
Cut off the tip from both cords, make sure to leave plenty of wire attached to the brick and tip your using.
STEP THREE:
Strip the tips of both wires, there should be two sections; an outside section (wrapped around the inside section) and an inside section. In the original Apple adaptor, the outside section was braided around the inside (which was incased in rubber) along with a yellow insulator. In the second adaptor (MacAlley) the outside was twisted around the separate inside wire.
STEP FOUR:
Clearly seperate the two sections of wire from each, then twist them together. MAKE SURE THEY TWO SECTIONS (INSIDE VS. OUTSIDE) ARE NOT TOUCHING. You don't want to short-circuit your adaptor.
STEP FIVE (optional):
Solder the wires together
STEP SIX:
Tie a knot in the power chord before the connection, to avoid accidental stress on the joint, and cover it all with electrical tape.
So far, its been working fine. But be warned, THERE IS SOME RISK INVOLVED WITH THIS PROCEDURE. My battery is charging fine and the iBook is powered as usual. I'm just waiting for the battery to fully charge to make sure the power adaptor stops charging the battery when its full (don't want a cooked battery!)

I'm trying to get my Mac Mini to drive my Dell 30" screen at it's native res of 2560x1600. But I don't want to fork out the cash for the apple adapter, especially with the talk of issues with them. Are there any third party cheaper options out there to got from either the minidvi, or the mini display port?

I've been trying to connect my mbp (older model) to my Hitachi plasma TV via S-video. I have the Apple DVI to video adapter and the first time I hooked it all up it looked great. The next time, and from then on no matter what I do the picture on the TV is in gray scale (LCD is still color). I've gone into system prefs and tried every setting in there I could find, and even tried to calibrate it using the calibration assistant. Nothing. I've also tried different inputs on the TV (the two plain video ports there are), as well as tried adjusting every imaginable video/color setting I could find on my TV. I'm completely lost at this point. I've also tried different video cables and of course fn F7.

I'm heading to Korea next year for several weeks. I've heard that I might need the World Adaptor Kit, but looking at it on Apple's site, it doesn't mention if it works with the MBA: [URL]. Was it just an oversight on Apple's part or does it not work with the MBA?

I've searched for hours upon hours trying to find solutions to my problem. I recently purchased the xbox 360 wireless adaptor hoping it would pick up the internet sharing I have coming from my imac, which is connected to a modem via ethernet cable. I send out the internet on my imac as I have 2 windows laptops and my iphone which all connect with no problems what so ever.
The xbox wireless adaptor will see my imacs network but just won't join. There are a few people around my neighborhood that have unsecured networks which the xbox wireless adaptor picks up and connects to no problem. I now want to try the apple usb to ethernet converter with my imac to see if I can connect the xbox 360's RJ-45 into either the apple to ethernet converter or the imacs ethernet port while still receiving the internet from my modem.

My friend just spilled some water on her new mb. The water was spilled on the side with the power adaptor. It immediately shut off and we took the bottom off to expose the inside of the computer and put a fan on it to dry out. We plan on leaving it like that for 24 hours so it is completely dry. Is that normal for it to immediately shut off like that?

I have a new MacBook Pro (latest model) and I bough a mini display to DVI adaptor that I use to connect an external display. Now, I need to connect a projector (VGA) and I found that I have a DVI To VGA adaptor that I used with my old macbook pro. When I tried to connect the adaptor, surprise! it does not fit! (because it has four extra pins. What happens if I remove those pins? Will it work? or I will have to also buy a mini display port to VGA Adaptor?
