May 27, 2012
looking to upgrade to the new OSX might might wait for this summers mountain lion release and was wondering what effect this might have on current apps, ie Adobe CS, MSO 11, iWork 09, will i have to reload them or will they port over.Â

I've been debating switching to Lion, but I'm not really sure if it's worth it. I have Snow Leopard on my Macbook now and I have a general idea of what the upgrade includes, but I'm not positive. The one major reason I want to switch is to simplify syncing with iCloud.

I just upgraded to lion and now i can't drag and drop files from my desktop onto my macintosh HD icon. i get the error popup window "The item (filename) can't be moved because "Macintosh HD" can't be modified" then I need to click on the "Authenticate" button on the popup window, type in my password for the system and then it will add it to my mac hd.
i'm sure i just have something locked or set wrong, but i've never gotten this error before. does anyone know what i need to change or do so i don't have to authenticate each time i want to drag/drop something onto my HD?

Just upgraded my macbook pro from Snow leopard 10.6.8 to Lion 10.7.2, after upgrading I instantly installed the software updates and now my version is 10.7.4. However the i noticed the computer was getting hot fast and im sure its not a problem with the indexing and spotlight because that finished hours ago. Please help, do not want to melt my computer down. Before on snow leopard istat detects my temperature as 30 degrees celcius to 40 when im just surfing on firefox, now on lion istat shows 60-70 when only firefox is open and 50+ when nothing is open.

I upgraded my wife's Late-2007 MacBook White to Lion and now sleeping and shutdown take a very long time. On Snow Leopard, sleep and shutdown was instantaneous! Close the lid and BAM! done. Selecting shutdown on the menu and BAM! turned off.Â
Now, after upgrading to Lion, they take a really long time. I deleted the shutdown log, turned off the computer and then turned it back on and checked on it. All processes go in less than a second, but com.apple.securityd doesn't exit at all and has to be killed as I see this message on the log:Â
19988665    1 com.apple.launchd                          28 com.apple.securityd                     Exit timeout elapsed (20 seconds). KillingÂ
One of the last messages on the log is this one:Â
19992024    1 com.apple.launchd                           1 com.apple.launchd                       System: Userspace shutdown took approximately 20 seconds.Â
So I figure if it were not for com.apple.securityd, shutdown would be instantaneous, just as Snow Leopard was.Â

I upgraded to 10.7 from 10.6.8. I've ran all the updates etc, but now I cannot connect to my OS X Server (10.6.8) or any other machine for that matter. The server appears in my finder window and will allow me to connect as a guest but if I try to login by clicking connect as or by using COMMAND+K and typing the IP I get a long wait after entering my PW only to receive an error that says "There was a problem connecting to the server "pggfx01". Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator. It should be noted that I have other machines that came with Lion that connect without issue and other machines still running 10.6.8 that connect flawlessly.

I'm finally ready to upgrade from my Tiger OS to the new Lion. I have the disc, from Apple, to upgrade first to Snow Leopard and from there I'll immediately download Lion. I'm assuming there's no reason, and it's best not to open any files while I'm in Snow Leopard.Â
I have my Home folder backed up to an external hard drive. Is there anything else I should know or be aware of? Is there any special way to do this? I read something once about maybe doing a "clean install" of the new OS (Snow Leopard or Lion?). I don't really know what that is. Will that be necessary?

if it is possible to upgrade the USB 2.0s on the MacBook Pro (2010) to USB 3.0s? I know the new Macbooks are dropping soon with 3.0s on em, and Instead of swapping out computers entirely, I am interested in upgrading my internals as far as I can, just to keep up with the curve and to increase my Macs performance. (2) will the new hardware work with Lion? Im not sure if there would be any type of hardware-recognition issues associated with the upgrade. (3) If not, would it likely work with Mountian Lion?Â
And Lastly (4), How is it done? Im sure its pretty straitforward after popping off the base plate and getting a look inside the Notebook, but Im actually going to purchace new RAM to increase the speed at which my Mac runs, and new USBs, and possibly even a boosted HDD to throw inside and Instead of taking the back off so many times, I kindof wanna do it all at once.I cant be the only one who wants to boost the USBs.Â

Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and, in the process, appear to have lost access to my iTunes. After the upgrade, when I clicked on the iTunes icon, I was then asked if I wanted to "install iTunes!" I have found folders that appear to contain the contents, but really don't want to re-build my iTunes from scratch.
How can I reclaim my iTunes?

I am using Snow Leopard but am trying to upgrade to Lion. I went to the App store, clicked on Buy Lion, put in apple id, confirmed my billing info and clicked on Done. Nothing happened but it went back to the OS Lion page and the little gear wheel at the top of the page has been spinning ever since, been at least 15 minutes now. Is it downloading or is the wheel just spinning and I am wasting my time? I knew it would take some time to download, but I does that spinning wheel mean that is taking place?

I came from OS Snow Leopard on a fairly basic Macbook Pro 13 inch model, and upgraded to Lion. I use Finder a lot, and something I noticed immediately was how SLOW finder is now in OS Lion. Does anyone else seem to be having this problem? When I use the space-bar to preview something it can take up to 10 seconds for me to load a preview, where it used to be instantaenous in Snow Leopard. I also have problems moving around in finder, like going from Downloads to Desktop, there's a 5 second delay minimum.

What I am using is 10.6.8. It is very good. I put a bootable clone on a spare external drive and installed Lion on that, just thought I would be very careful. The Lion works but I'm not at all sure that I like it, want it or need it. Looks like it would take some getting used to. When Mountain Lion comes out I will probably upgrade (the external drive!). Judging by what people say here support for Snow Leopard will be dropped when Mountain Lion is introduced or not long after. How much does this matter (security)? Reckon a lot of people will want to stay with Snow Leopard as long as possible. (Why do Mac stores sell anti-virus software that the experts here do not like much or at all - I have bought some in the past and discarded it).

I used to have two finder services set up so that I could select a number of image documents and have it convert the images to a PDF, or that I could select a PDF and convert it to images. Since upgrading to Lion when it came out, these services have been gone! In the meantime I've set up these automator actions as applications that I can drop the input files onto, but I would really love to have my services back. (I just now fixed my "PDF Improver" service that I used to have, would it be the same in this case [ie moving the old service to /Library/PDF Services]?
