Well this is a truly annoying "feature" in Lion. I just upgraded from Snow Leopard. Every time I open Safari, windows open from a previous session.
I've searched Safari's preferences and can't find anything to disable this. Even emptied cache. No luck. Same is true with certain other apps.
This is not good, for the obvious reasons. Is there any way to disable this? I know about logging in and out, seperate accounts, private browsing, but this is crazy as it requires MORE work not less. Whatever happened to keeping it simple?
Whenever I launch Pages, the application opens pretty much all the documents I've worked on. I take care to close all the windows, hoping that they won't launch again next time I start the application, yet they do. I can't find a setting in the preferences or Settings to disable this behavior.

I need to open a few Pages files but I don't have Pages installed on this computer. I understand you can convert Pages files to .doc or .pdf within the application, but unfortunately I won't have access to the computer with the program installed for a while.
Is there some sort of (free) converter that can convert .pages files to .doc or .pdf or even .rtf?
Or even better, a document creator/viewer than can open .pages files?
I am unable to open Pages because it says "pages is being updated." But it doesn't finish updating and I can't seem to force quit and re-open the pages. The same message keeps appearing.

Can't swipe back to previously opened pages after upgrading to Yosemite.

I did the latest upgrade last week... now when I try to open safari a problem report box comes up " safari quit unexpectedly click reopen to open the application again. this report will be sent to apple automatically." when i click reopen the box dissapears and comes back . if i click okay it just closes the box. Am I going to have to delete safari and reinstall it? I hate having to use firefox.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was working on a document in Pages when I got the dreaded 'spinning beach-ball'. I had to 'Force Quit', and I subsequently can't open it again. I have done 'Repair Disk Permissions'.I have just downloaded the latest software update to 10.9.4. Still no good. When I 'Spotlight' 'Pages' it shows two : the one with the 'inkwell and pen' icon is v.4.3, located in iWork 09 folder in Applications the one with the 'paper page and pen' (the same as the one in my dock) is v.5.2...Is this significant ?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI wrote up a paper for school, saved it on my flash drive and went off to school.
Only problem is my school is entirely PC, and I didnt remember to save it for word.
I need a program that can convert a pages document to word or let me open it in another program on the PC.
I tried installing open office on the computer here at school but it wont let me. I should be able to install most other programs though.
When my professor asks me who I dont have it done I dont want to say because I use a mac. Well I do, but I shouldn't.
I have iWork '09 and upgraded to Snow Leopard about a month ago. I noticed only yesterday that, in Pages, the Inspector window refuses to open - not when I click the icon, nor when I select 'Show Inspector' from the view menu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm on Facebook or any other site that people post links: I click on the link, a new Safari window opens, and after 15-20 seconds I get a "failed to open page" prompt that states:
"Safari can't open the page (link) because the server where this page is located isn't responding".
And yet, if I copy and paste the link to a new window it opens just fine.
Why can't a link within another site open? Safari 5.1.3 Mac OS 10.7.3
I have been using Safari for a few years now, and the only problem I have with it is that I have never been able to have more than one page open at a time. On any PC, I have been using internet explorer and can have, for instance, an internet radio station playing as welll as being able to surf other pages without losing the radio station. On Safari, as soon as I have the radio station playing, if I then want to look at other pages, the radio station web-page has automatically switched itself off. I am sure it is just something to do with the settings, but I don't seem able to fathom out what settings I need to change.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a number of Pages documents on iCloud, and all of a sudden, none of them can be opened from Pages (5.2.2) on my MacBook Pro. They all appear, but they either say "zero bytes" or there is just a gray line. If I select any document, the "Open" button remains gray. I CAN open all docs on my iPad, and I can also open them using the iCloud web interface. Meanwhlie, Calendar is syncing new events to all devices without problem, in all directions, so it can't be a problem with the account.

View 7 Replies View RelatedJust today I received about 6 e-mails that when I went to open them all I got was a blank page. I tried to delete them but can not seem to do so. When I hit delete nothing happens. The e-mails are from at least two different senders, both known to me and frequent exchangers of e-mails. Any idea of what the problem may be and how to correct it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to open Pages, I get the spinning ball, then quits. Pages will open if I click on an existing Pages file, but will quit if I try to make a new file. I repaired permissions and reinstalled iWorks '09.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI clicked on the iChat icon and when it tries to open, it says the following (see attached file).
In addition, I have various Pages and Keynote documents in the "Documents" folder. However, it does not show a preview of a Pages or Keynote document as it did before. It just shows a Pages logo on a Pages document and a Keynote logo on a Keynote document. What's going on?
If anyone can tell me how to open a Pages document that arrived as attachment in Mail? A fellow Mac user sent it. I don't have or plan to buy iWorks. I couldn't open it with the Appleworks that I have with OS X 4.9. Nor would Textedit and apps like that help.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAny Way to make it so. I really need to know.
View 1 Replies View Related i have recently been having trouble opening .pdf files properly. they open but they are all blank pages. they open as blank files in "preview", it doesnt open at all using adobe digital additions and through microsoft word i get gibberish or i get pop ups that say "word cannot open this document. the document might be in use or might not be a valid word document" ive downloaded over 5 times and each time i try with all three options and i get the same thing.
i tried to pull it into iArchiver but that also didnt work.
the file ends with .pdf
also although several other documents have done the same thing i know something is not completely wrong with my .pdf thing or any of those applications because other pdf files do open.
i tried to give as much information right at the beginning so forgive me if its too long.
on the iwork cd i used to install it says version 9.0.3, but i still cant open .doc files with it, and when i do try to update it, it says eligible pages cannot be found in applications. What should i do?
