Recently all the Mac's in my household forced a password change for both of the user accounts that I have on them. These are local accounts not domain accounts. It appears that something has expired the password on all my machines at around the same date. I do not or at least did not have a password policy set on these machines prior to this incident.I have searched the release notes for recent OS X updates and have not found any reference that explains this behavior. Hence, I am concerned that this could be malware/trojan activity however none of the scanners I have tried has detected any malware.

Using BootPicker in a dual boot computer lab. Can't use autologon. In 10.6 users could click on "student" icon to log in without being prompted for a password. Is there a way to get rid of the password prompt on the log on screen for accounts that do not need to enter a password?

Every time I try to log into my webmail from my computers or iPhone, I get an incorrect user name or password error message and haven't been able to receive my mail in my inbox. The server (Cox Communications) is telling me I need malware or spyware or whatever the heck one uses for this type of thing. I've never had to worry about that before but have recently posted items on Ebay, Craigslist and also a resume online which is about the time I seemed to start having problems with my server connection.
I have a 5s iPhone, an OSX Mountain Lion and a Lion and it is happening on all three devices
Hi. I've enabled web, wiki and opendirectory in lion server, but I can't enable users to change their passwords, because the option to modify my default web site in the Web pane in server admin is greyed out.'ve read the documentation, but I'm stuck at this point.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust curious if there is a way to not allow the user to change the "Require password" option (Security Prefs/General) in Lion (10.7.3). If I make the user managed by the server I could disable the pane, but I'd rather than do that in this case. Any way to do it with a standalone machine? I want to force the Require password option and not allow the user to disable it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a Mac-mini running OS X Tiger. I've got one admin account setup and 5 or so standard accounts. I'm configuring a connection to a shared folder on a network server on the standard accounts and I wanted to connect to that share using an account id that is DIFFERENT than the standard account id. I enter that id and the correct password and I check "save password in keychain" (or whatever that check box says) and I get prompted to enter the "keychain password" to unlock the keychain. The problem is, I never setup a keychain password for the standard user account. I'v tried the password for the administrator account (even though I can't specify the admin id anywhere) and I've tried the password for the standard user account, neither of which work.
However, I can still get successfully connected to the shared folder. I just don't want the user to have to enter the password each time they login.
Additionally, after going through this, Safari is now asking for a keychain password for the "login" keychain when it first starts up and loads the default Apple.com home page.
May I know if lets say the size of my MBP's HDD is 500gb, must i get a bigger hdd just so time machine can work or i can just get another 500gb?
reason for asking is because, due to those computer calculation etc, the external harddisk maybe a couple of mbs smaller than that of the internet harddisk.

I got a Macbook with OS X. I was too impatient to get the administrator name and password from the previous owner (BIG MISTAKE).I thought I'd follow the instructions from "How To Create A New Administrator Account" (url..) as they seemed easy and straight forward.
I followed the first step of the process and got into single-user mode (black screen white text).I saw that black screen with white text and thought, "Woah man, I'm out my my depth. My brother typed 'help' in order to find out how to exit single-user mode, he said that's how it's done on windows? (I also have limited knowledge about Windows). I typed in various things such as 'reboot' in an attempt to exit. Eventually the battery died. I turned the Macbook back on and the grey screen with the apple logo with the spinning wheel appeared. The spinning wheel span and span but the computer will not start up.

So I missed type their username). I changed the username of the account from the control panel. I now want to change the user directory name. Can I just change it like any other directory? And finally, when u want to install something the security warning that comes up and asks for your password, also has the name miss typed. So how do I also change that?
