I would like to keep only my documents, photographs and videos in my backup in Time Machine. What is the best way to set the exclusions in the Time Machine? It little complicated.

View 11 Replies View Related I've recently upgraded to Lion and have found that Quicktime movies and embedded Flash movies won't work. With the embedded flash all I get is a black box, and with quicktime movies, such as the ones on the Apple website, I get nothing - the irony of not being able to watch movies on the Apple site with my Apple iMac gives me a little chuckle. Anyways ....... I've been reading thread after thread and trying lots of different things but nothing works. I've got this feeling inside that says it's something simple but just can't seem to find it.

Did a fresh install of SL on my iMac. So far, so good.
Go to my Documents folder, enter time machine, choose the files in my Documents folder and click restore. Exits out back to my desktop, enter my password and it starts to copy over the files. But then suddenly stops. And only copies over a small number of files and empty folders. When trying to restore just the files in some of the folders I get an error that says I don't have permission to access these files. Don't have permission? Says who and why?
So I go in via finder to the backup, select all the files in my Documents, and manually drag them over to my Documents folder. Same thing happens.
The files are a couple hundred mb. But can't figure out why they don't all copy over. Weird thing is I didn't have this problem with files from other locations like restoring my iPhoto library.
I want to back up my entire system including word and excell docs . how do I do this on Icloud ?

For some reason, my digital camera records movies in quicktime format. I also recently purchased an iPad and I have started taking short home videos on that as well. I want to back these movies up onto a DVD but for some reason I cannot burn the quicktime videos. My main reason for wanting to do this is to preserve the movies (they are movies of my kids that we'll want to watch many years from now, long after my computer and iPad are dead). The second reason is to free up space on the iPad.What is the best way to backup home video to preserve them (forever) and free up space on my devices?

I am trying to install my time machine backup. But as I open the backup it says
:The folder “Documents” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.
I did get the info on the file to unlock it but still it gives me a no entry sine. How do I install my backup to my new mac when this backup can't be opened?

I just installed iLife '09 and had it go through my image library. It didn't pick up a single face of anyone in any photograph. Does anybody else have this problem? (I'm not saying that it doesn't tell me who is who, obviously that needs to be added by me. It just is not picking up faces in photographs for me to tag. Even as I tag faces myself, the 'other photos this person may be in' isn't picking any up).
Also, 'Places' seems rather awkward right now. My hometown is (according to iPhoto) called 'Biglis', even though it is clearly marked as 'Barry' in Google earth (which is correct). Incase anyone is wondering, I'm using an iPhone. My problem is NOT that my library isn't automatically geo-tagged, but that the photos that are geo-tagged have the pin in the right place, but the locations name is 110% wrong). Again, anyone else have this problem? right now, these features are nice but a huge letdown for me.
I have a 24" iMac vintage 2008 or so (aluminum body). My problem is that photographs and fonts on websites, even when not stretched, display very poorly--lots of extra pixels, noise between font letters, etc. I have the system preference set to the finest (1920x1200) setting and almost the brightest setting, but the situation continues.
I know that some of this may be attributable to the size of the photo file originally uploaded by the site, but the lack of clarity even extends to little thumbnails, say 1" by 1", as on Facebook, that are still cloudy and fuzzy.
I want to use my Mac fro editing photographs in my conservatory but the glare is too much, has anyone found a good solution for this?

I want to add GPS data to my digital photographs. I was thinking of using the Sony GPS-CS1 with HoudahGeo. However, I've read that there seems to be a bug which means PPC machines can't recognize the Sony device, whereas Intel Macs can. Does anyone know if this bug has been fixed. Or can they recommend an alternative GPS logger which is available in the UK.

Since upgrading to lion I keep getting the following message The identity of the backup disk has changed since the previous backup.The disk may have been replaced or erased, or someone may be trying to trick your computer into backing up to the wrong disk. And after this the drive disappears from the desktop appearing agian only after restart. What can I do do rectify this? Delete and re-intialise the drive?

Trying to backup to Passport Time machine. Has worked fine until a few days ago.
my TM wil not back up! It states that this backup is too large for the backup disk. The back up disk requires 573.50 GB but only 225.23 GB are available. The TM needs work space on the backup disk, in addition to the space required to store backups. Upen TM perferences to select a LARGER backup disk or make the backup smaller by excluding file.
Okay I;m sorry but obvioulsy I dont get this. I've never called Apple for help! I have every product they sell practically including Protection Plans I never used and no one will help me with this. My MAC is starting to have black or white screens and i can hear it running but it will not do anything so i have to reboot it, it screws up Enturage and then I have to rebuild that ( 5 times this year) anyway... I would like to back everything up- can I delete everything on the Time Capsule or Time Machine; god I dont even know what it is called Im so MAD... help if you can please. I'm going to have to take this to the genius people at the store and probably buy another computer but like before they will not save my files.

I've bought a Seagate External Hard Drive, and want to copy my photos from the Macbook Pro to it. Every time I try and copy them, a message appears 'Unable to render file for export' followed by the drive details and a string of numbers. How I should be copying them? View 4 Replies View RelatedI am unable to save documents created on Pages and Textedit on my main "Macintosh HD" after the first save. If I create a document, save it then edit it and try to save again it comes up with "This document "test" could not be saved" No extra info other than that message.
If I try to save onto my second drive, " Macintosh HD 2" (the non-boot drive) it works fine.
I have
1/ checked read and write permissions and my Macintosh HD and they are set for "read & write"
2/ I have repaired disk premissions using Disc Utilities to no avail
3/ booted using Cmd - R and used terminal and applied "reset home directory permissions and ACL's" to no avail.
