OS X V10.7 Lion :: Finder Crash After Downloading Dropbox
Feb 28, 2012Â I downloaded Dropbox and the Finder has crashed by blinking with the "restore windows"-window. Then I created another administrator account and from here deleted Dropbox. Then restarted and logged in to my normal account. Now Finder wasn't blinking like before but there is nothing viewable on the Desktop and when I click on Finder in the Dock several times it comes up with a window for a splitsecond then closes the window again. Then I can press it several times again and it comes up for a splitsecond and then closes again. When hitting the command-option-esc, the icon blinks here. I've actually also tried the killall Finder in terminal, but even this doesn't work.

Jun 2, 2014Today, I thought I would clear out some memory on my Mac Book Air. I had items in folders and dragged a number of items to Drop Box thinking this would free up space. I must have done something wrong as they items were not in the folders on Drop Box. When I returned to the documents left on my internal hard drive, the folders were intact but the documents in the folders were gone. The documents included keynote presentations, pages docs, numbers docs, and pdf docs.

Jun 9, 2012OSX 10.7.4 with Excel 14.2.2.(for Mac 2011) and Dropbox:Â Original files are saved in Dropbox folder on Mac; Aliases are created there and stored local on Mac HD. Using Finder and navigating to Alias works fine; files open, can be modified and resaved. However, using Excel File Open command and navigating to the same Alias results in "File Not Found or Could Not Be Opened" error message.

MacBook Pro :: Can't Access Any Of My Word Documents
Mar 15, 2012I just upgraded my laptop to Lion. Now I can't access any of my Word Documents. I 'got' around that by opening them up in 'pages'. HOWEVER, I can't access my emergency records organizer (where I keep all my bank account info, IDs and passwords, etc.) Is there a new application in Lion that allows me to to store this data? I'm not real happy with Lion right now, because half of my life/documennts were Word documents that can no longer be opened-unless I want to open EVERY last one of no fewer than 1,000 Word docs in 'pages.' Not only did I pay to upgrade to Lion, but I'll have to pay for another version of Word. Macintosh is on my___list right now.

Mar 26, 2010I decided to post because I've been paranoid lately by possibilities that I may be hacked by someone or may have a virus on my Mac. I purchased my Mac in June of this year. I was messing around on "Finder" today and was looking at documents and stuff when I noticed some documents in the finder that were not familiar to me. I kept looking and I actually found A LOT of documents with numbers and things that were not familiar to me. Once I saw this, I went to the activity monitor.
I saw my username of course along with process names that looked familiar to me. I kept scrolling down and then I saw the username "daemon" and the process name was "distnoted". What is this? Am I just paranoid about this or is something going on? My computer speeds are fine and the computer itself is acting completely normal. I DO use uTorrent and Frostwire, though I don't download just anything.

I've turned on iCloud in my system preferences (checked every box) and there is no folder or anything for iCloud material.
On windows there is a folder full of my iCloud stuff.
OS X :: Unable To Access The Files - Finder Quits And Restarts?
Sep 27, 2010My Finder "quits" or "restarts" when I try to access any file other than a single file that is on the Desktop.
WANT: To repair the operation of the finder so I have access to all my files.
SYSTEM: I am currently running OS 10.5.8 on an older Macbook, with a 325 GB HD. (Note: I started having this trouble on OS 10.5.7 but upgraded to 10.5.8 but the problem still persisted.)
SYMPTOMS:
1. Most of the time when I access my files on the file called Dons MacBook all the file information shown on the Desktop will disappear and then reappear in a second similar to when you are starting the OS. The Finder itself, with all the files listed, will not appear
2. However, sometimes the Finder WILL appear and when all the files are shown and i click on any file or folder the "busy" circle will appear for a time and then the Desktop will "quit" or "reset" again as describe above.
3. I ran Disk Doctor from my start up disk. The disk needed no repairs. When I went to "Verify Disk Premissions" I received the following: "Error: No valid packages."
4. Forum research told me that I needed a "Basesystem.pkg" installed in my Library file but even if I found one on the net or my original OS CD I do not have access to my Library folder because when I try to access it in the Finder, if the Finder actually appears, it "resets" as described above.
5. All the programs on my Dock will start and operate normally. These programs "go get" stored files and run them normally. From that I know that the "resetting" of the Finder does not mean that I am losing programs or they are being erased. (I can only run programs on the Dock because they are not accessible in the Finder as all other files.)
6. I can access the finder information when I am trying to Save a file. The Finder window that appears for me to search for a place to put a document works okay.
7. I can download email attachments (pdf) documents, for example, to the Desktop one at a time but if I put them in a common file on the Desktop, when I call up the common file, the Finder window starts but "resets" as noted above.
8. If I have a file on a CD when the Finder comes up to list the files in the CD, it "resets" as described above.
Mac Pro :: Internal Drives Not Showing Up On Desktop / Can Access Them In Finder
Nov 2, 2009So I just received my Nehalem Mac Pro today, and I successfully installed three new hard drives in it, and I can access all four of my drives in Finder, but NONE of them (including the Boot Drive that came with the computer) are showing up on the desktop! I can't figure out why so I thought I'd ask here.
Oddly enough, my Firewire 800 Drive shows up on the desktop. Anyone have any ideas why this would happen? And how to fix it?
MacBook Air :: Accidentally Set Finder Sharing And Permissions For Everyone To No Access
May 4, 2012I have a relatively new MacBook Air. In reviewing the sharing and permissions settings for the Macintosh HD and for user known as "everyone", I changed the setting from "ready only" to "no access" thinking that this would block access from other users (like other family members). Well, it did, but I'm part of "everyone" and now have no access to my Air. Â
I have tried rebooting and accessing Safe Mode (Command/Shift/V) and I can see the status information as the machine tries to lauch in Safe Mode, but then the screen turns white leaving me with no interface through which I can launch Finder and correct my stupid mistake.Â

Jun 6, 2014I'm running Mavericks on my late 2013 MacBook Pro. When I try to access a shared computer on my network, the Finder window closes as soon as I click on the computer I want to access. File sharing is turned on on the target computers, both iMacs, one is running Mavericks and the other is running Mountain Lion. The iMacs can access the MacBook Pro and each other without a problem. Firewall is not on on the iMac. Is there a setting I am missing

It doesn't work now.When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.

Feb 7, 2012Finder and itunes cannot access files and folders have disappeared from external hard drive. On OSX 10.6.8, How can I bring them back? Started when the usb connection failed. Firstly I could see the folders in finder but could not open them, now I can't see the folders. I tried opening photos from phtoshop and though I could see and select them, it crashed when I tried to open them. When reimporting CDs it asks if I want to replace existing files? OS X Mavericks :: Can't Access Search Results On Finder After System Is Updated
Aug 28, 2014I work everyday with my 21.5' iMac and it had OS Lion before I updated to Mavericks last month. As I work with lots of files, I have also a 1TB Lacie external drive pluged into it via firewire and I constantly access these files. After I updated though, I'm experiencing a strange problem. Everytime I search for a file on Finder, all the results that come up can't be edited or even selected. This is driving me crazy because I must open another tab and go all the way through the file I want as I can't select any file from the searches. All the search results come up written in gray color and with a empty circle on its left side. I can't even click on them! For better explanation, here is a picture of what happens:
Before the update, I used to normally access every result the search came up to.
I have another iMac here in the network with Mavericks too and all the searches returns with selectable and editable results.

OS X Mavericks :: External Drive Not Showing Up In Finder / Can't Access Files?
Jun 30, 2014My blue 1TB external WD Passport Drive (whose name is Ralph and who holds all kinds of precious things that I love and can't lose) isn't showing up on my Finder screen. Whenever I connect him, his light turns up and blinks as usual, but I can't access anything on him. I don't even get an error message when I disconnect him without ejecting. I've tried using different USB ports and different cables, but it's not working. I've also tried connecting him to different computers (3 different macs and 1 Windows 8 PC), but NOTHING.Â
I've been trying everything the past few days to get him to work. He shows up on Disk Utility occasionally. I've tried verifying and repairing him through Disk Utility, but it says that the verification could not be completed, or that it can't repair him. It tells me to back up as many files as I can and then restore him, but I can't access the files to back them up in the first place. Also, the partition name seems to have changed to 'disk1s3', which appears greyed out on the Disk Utility screen.Â
In regards to mount point, it says that the disk isn't mounted. I tried mounting it by right-clicking it on Disk Utility, but the mount failed. I tried restoring him onto another 1TB WD drive (Oscar), but that failed too.
