How do I get out of programs if i am not given the closing option?I do not have a red dot closing option on my opened windows
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to empty files in trash, and everytime I do, it brings up a new finder window and says that it's preparing to move to trash, but it's already in trash. When I try to take it out of trash it says that it's copying the file to my desktop.

When I close a finder window, the finder menu disappears and then reappears along with the finder window. It looks like finder is crashing and restarting. This started happening after I downloaded a pdf and put it in a folder. Maybe there is a bug in the way finder is rendering the image of the pdf file at the top of the finder window?
How can I restore normal behavior of finder?

I am trying to install my time machine backup. But as I open the backup it says
:The folder “Documents” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.
I did get the info on the file to unlock it but still it gives me a no entry sine. How do I install my backup to my new mac when this backup can't be opened?

If I hover my mouse over a link in Safari, it will start opening multiple tabs of that link without me clicking it until I hover off it. It also opens programs if I hover over it for about a second. This started happening this morning. It was fine last night. I didn't download any updates in that time, and didn't change any system preferences. I tried restarting my system. This happens with both my wireless mouse and the trackpad, so I figured it's a software issue. Could it be a virus? What Mac program checks for/ gets rid of viruses?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo recently, whenever I use my MacBook Pro and I open a program (such as iTunes) or even the internet browser (Safari), the program will just close as soon as I open it or while I'm using it. And sometimes it takes forever to just re-open.

How can I close multiple windows on Snow Leopard ?
Let's say I have 3 firefox windows, 2 mail (main app + 1 composing mail) + etc....
How can I batch select all windows i would like to close, WITHOUT GOING TO EXPOSE AND CLOSING ONE AFTER ANOTHER ?
Lately I've been getting this error more and more often.
The application Finder can't be opened.-10810
I did some searching, and the only info I could find was for other applications, but nothing on Finder.
I get it from a fresh restart, with only Safari and iStat Menus running. Whatever is causing it is also hammering the processor to 100%. It's taken me almost 5 minutes just to type out this thread.
I'm on a 1st gen. MacBook Air, running Snow Leopard, fully up to date.
Am I looking at a fresh install?
How do you close multiple tabs at the same time? Is there a "close all other tabs" command?

Is there a way to put a folder in the Dock so that it just opens Finder instead of a stack? OS X won't let me drag it to the left side, nor can I find a option to make folders on the right open in Finder by default. I'm running Snow Leopard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have accidentally deactivated 'Finder' when I used the 'Force Quit' option. I didn't look before I clicked. I still have the icon in the dock but when I click on it, it says: 'The application Finder can't be opened. -10810.' How can I reactivate it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter reinstalling Snow Leopard (file system corruption, long story) and upgrading to 10.6.4, I noticed that any Finder windows I leave open when I shutdown or logout do not reappear/re-open on my next login. I was able to do this before the reinstall. I don't know how long my old install was corrupted, so I don't know if the windows staying around was caused by the corruption or not. Is this normal behavior or should they stay open?
View 2 Replies View RelatedTried to turn off computer and it kept prompting me to force quite various applications. I have since restarted the computer but now am getting this error when trying to open Finder. I have looked through several discussions and unfortunately am not an apple expert so much of what I am reading is foreign to me.I have opened the Terminal and entered a prompt that made all of my desktop docs and finder visable, but as soon as I closed out the Terminal it all disappeared again. Can anyone point me in the right direction - step by step - to get Finder back up and running. To my knowledge all other applications seem to be working as normal.FYI I do have a few extermal items attached to the Mac. (1) extermanl hard drive for the Time Machine, and USB drive.

I am using Lion 10.7 , I assigned dreamweaver to desktop1 by choose Options > This Desktop when in desktop1. Then relaunch DW and it correctly opened in desktop 1. Now if i open a file using in finder (which is itself assigned to desktop3) on a file that is default to DW then Dreamweaver moves itself to Desktop3.
I thought the point was that we could assign different applications to different spaces and they would stay that way. Are we saying that if a file is opened from finder its default application will be moved and set up of spaces does not apply ?.

When I open an app (such as Word or Preview) the last few documents I was working with open. Is there a way to turn this off? Leopard didn't do this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to take multiple documents and create one PDF file. Like scanning multiple pages of something and instead of having each page be a file, creating one file. In Preview, you can open multiple PDFs in the same window, but if you print (or Save to PDF from the print dialogue, it will only do each document as is. I would like to avoid loading multiple pages into Word and then exporting to PDF and I would also like to avoid having to buy Acrobat. Is this PDF function limited in OS X or am I missing something?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm a little embarrassed to ask. but how do i not open another window. ie close one and replace with the next window in icon view?
View 4 Replies View RelatedEver since I installed Lion last year on another iMac, and now on my current iMac, whenever I hold down option and click the red close button on a Finder window to close all open windows, the Finder crashes. It doesn't happen every single time, but enough to really make me angry.

After updating to Yosemite 10.10.1, occasionally my Finder will freeze. I can continue to work in whatever program I am in, but I can't go anywhere else. When I force quit to try to relaunch the Finder, it doesn't respond. The only way to get it to work again is to shut off the computer using the on/off button. I have already tried deleting my Finder preferences.

I mostly use Preview.app (on Lion 10.7.3) to read and annotate relatively large pdf documents (articles, reports, etc.). While working on a given project I tend to have many pdf files open at the same time. I personally would like to have all of the pdfs I use open in a single window, so I have Preview set to "Open all files in one window" (Preferences > General). This setup initially worked very well since it allows me view all of my open documents in the sidebar (similar to tabs in a browser window). The problem is that when I switch from one pdf to another, the position of the pdfs (i.e., the page I was on when I switched to another pdf) is not preserved. This seemingly defeats the purpose of having this functionality in Preview,is this the intended behavior of this setting, or is this a bug? In either case, is anyone aware of a fix for this? I just want the documents I'm reading to preserve their positions when switching between them when opened in a single window.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated my circa 2013 Macbook Air 13" to OSX Mavericks and a strange issue has started. Every time I open Finder it takes literal minutes to load the file listing, and while it loads it freezes the section where the file listing loads with whatever background it was opened over. This happens all the time, and once it finally loads, it will do the same thing if I try to go to a different folder. This renders Finder essentially useless and I have had to add a third party (forklift) app to browse and manage files.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Mavericks... Is there any way to close the windows of application (when quitting - ie System Preferences => General) BUT not have this affect the finder application.
I want the windows I have opened in the finder to remain opened, but everything else to close upon quitting
