I have lost my contacts.I can see them in TM, but they won't restore.I understand that in Snow Leopard that it is necessary to go to the "Library/Application Support/address book start addressbook" folder in Finder and restore from there in TM.Unfortunately that folder does not exist in Lion.Where is the equivalent folder in lion?
View 4 RepliesI want to be able to choose which programs I wan tot run at start up because after 6 months of usage it takes about 2plus minutes for a cold system to start up and 5 seconds to shut down. I wan tot speed up the startup and I think I have to many programs runnning at startup. On my PC I used to control that from sys config,is there an equivalent in Lion.

Where do I find the equivalent of Remote Desktop Connection on Mac OS X Lion? I like the feature in MS Windows where I can click on the "MS orb/All Programs" and all of my programs are there? View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Lion, I can no longer move program icons from my applications folder to a sub folder. When I do, it makes a copy and leave the original in the applications folder. When I then try to delete the icon in the applications folder it tells me it's required by the OS and won't let me delete. I'm forced to keep certan applications such as Time Machine and Stickies in the application folder.

I would like to create a Smart folder that only has applications & utilities in a sub-folder.Â
This will be similar to the default applications folder that shows in the dock, but without all the extra files & folders - just a list of applications.Â
I can do this by esily by just having a smart folder of applications showing only type=application.
However, I would still like to have utilities in a sub-folder.Â
If thats not possible, then it would be OK to have 2 seperate smart folders, 1 for apps excluding utilities & 1 for utilities only.Â
Is there some way in the smart folder options i can exclude a sub directory?
I must have done something to my installation of OS X. When I go to create a new folder, it automatically creates the folder with the name "untitled folder". The problem is, the name isn't selected. Normally, when you create a new folder, you can just type the name immediately. For me, I have to create the new folder, then click on the name to select the text and then type it. Also, when I do go to type in the new name, the text "untitled folder" doesn't disappear. I just type over it.Â

I'm using MacBook Pro Early 2011 model with Mountain Lion (10.8.5).
I recently noticed that there was an application folder in my home folder (the folder with your username), but that application folder had been empty. I remember I used to be able to access to my applications from that folder, but not anymore.Â
Since the folder was empty, I deleted it before doing further research.Â
After deleting the empty application folder from the home folder, I looked up and some said the application folder in the home folder and the application folder in Macintosh HD are two different folders. I don't know what it means, but I would like to have an application folder with applications in my home folder. Is this possible? or should I just make an Alias folder and put it in my home folder?

It appears that the Library folder that is in the Home Folder (e.g./Users/Home/Liberary)has been made invisible in OS 10.7.x. However I have seen it because after converting samples Logic showed me the folder and its contents. I would very much like to move the samples from their present location in this folder on the startup disk to the EXS 24 samples folder on the external RAID array that is dedicated to this purpose - - but I don't know how to make the Library folder visible.

Here's what I've tried: SMB and FTP sharing is disabled on the host. After updating the operating systems on both computers as far as they can be updated, permissions were repaired, new sharing usernames were created, firewalls are disabled on host and client.Â

If you click on your mac HD icon and go into the 'users' folder. Ther eis an icon with a house. This is what I think is called the 'home' folder. Usually, there is a folder in the 'Home' folder called 'Library' and I cant seem to locate it. Where did it go?

I just updated my MacBook to Lion, and I used to have a folder when using Leopard called "Library." I can't find it anymore. The only way to get to it is to open Xcode 4, make a Cocoa application, build it, then right-click the target, then click "Show in finder. This is what the library folder looks like after I do that:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have about 2TB of data on an external hard drive, which is connected by Firewire cable to my MacBook Pro. I am running Lion 10.7. One folder (and ONLY one folder) on the external drive contains documents with private data. I want to encrypt the folder, but not the entire hard drive. I tried System Utilities > New Image to create an encrypted disk image, but it seems to want to encrypt the entire image instead of just one folder. how to encrypt just one folder and the documents it contains, either with a proprietary Apple tool or with a reliable 3rd party tool?Â

Does Lion have a limit on how many files it can handle ok inside a folder?Â
In ye olde days, it was a rule of thumb that having more than, say, 25,000 files in a folder was asking for trouble. The Finder would bog down, Open/Save As... dialogs would take ages, etc. When Leopard came out, those problems went away. However, in my shiny new Lion-equipped MBP, I am running into something that looks like this old problem again. If I have a folder with over 12,000 files or so in either the internal HDD or any external HDD and I should happen to drop into it when an Open or a Save As... dialog window opens, the dialog freezes, the beachball comes out and I have to wait for 10-20 seconds before any button or keyboard shortcut responds.

Using Daisy Disk I see a folder called .LD which is taking up most of my hard disk now.The path is Mac HD>Users>Me>.LD. Can and how can I delete it? What is creating it? When I drag it to the drop area to collect the files for deletion in Daisy Disk I get told they are needed by the OS.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like to encrypt my Mail folder in my Library. Is this possible? I'm not worried about other users on my mac, but if it is stolen, I'd like to know my emails cannot be accessed. I have TrueCrypt which I've used for files that I have created. It is quick and easy. But I'm not sure if this is compatible with an application like Mail which has a default file system. I've also hear that there may be issues later with mail if you try and search for emails once you've encrypted the folder.Â

I was trying to share this folder, which resides in my secondary hdd. Since i find it too **** hard to share some folders with a windows pc, i guess i messed up some stuff somehow. I tried creating user names, changing share settings but NOTHING worked! The share window is just ridiculous! But anyway That's not my main problem now.Every single file that in that folder i tried to share is gone now. The subfolders are there, but the files are gone. And not deleted; gone. Because i can see and open them with the Pathfinder application. Also can see them under bootcamped Windows. And yes, hidden files are shown at the moment.

I would really love some help with this; I've been banging my head against the wall trying to achieve something that is seemingly so simple and basic.Â
We want to use an Email app that will allow us to encrypt only ONE email folder. Access to the rest of the email should be open to all users of the computer, just the one folder needs to be encrypted or password protected. Apparently this is not possible in Outlook, because in Outlook for Mac all of the folders are now integrated into one database and so cannot be encrypted individually as they can on PC. Â
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to achieve this? I am considering using Mac's Mail, but can't find Mail file structure on my Lion machine to see if I can access the individual mailboxes separately. Does anyone know where to find Mail's folder structure? I looked in the Library but found nothing for Mail, as it used to be in previous OSs. Am open to third party software work arounds, other email clients, whatever.
