Now that MobileMe is closing up shop, I'm not sure whether or not the Backup app will also cease being supported. I use it daily for scheduled backups of selected folders to a server. What are some good alternatives to Backup? I don't want a clone backup app like SuperDuper, as I need to select certain files and folders.Â

View 2 Replies View Relatedi've used paperport before and it is very easy to use. i have a canon lide 30 and canoscan sucks for creating pdf's from a multipage source, no drag and drop and can't make it make sequencial scans that auto combines to one document. i'm trying to get my paper stuff more organized, and dump the paper
any suggestions so can make my canon lide rock and then if i ever get another scanner i can simply add this software.

Since upgrading to lion I keep getting the following message The identity of the backup disk has changed since the previous backup.The disk may have been replaced or erased, or someone may be trying to trick your computer into backing up to the wrong disk. And after this the drive disappears from the desktop appearing agian only after restart. What can I do do rectify this? Delete and re-intialise the drive?

my TM wil not back up! It states that this backup is too large for the backup disk. The back up disk requires 573.50 GB but only 225.23 GB are available. The TM needs work space on the backup disk, in addition to the space required to store backups. Upen TM perferences to select a LARGER backup disk or make the backup smaller by excluding file.Â
Okay I;m sorry but obvioulsy I dont get this. I've never called Apple for help! I have every product they sell practically including Protection Plans I never used and no one will help me with this. My MAC is starting to have black or white screens and i can hear it running but it will not do anything so i have to reboot it, it screws up Enturage and then I have to rebuild that ( 5 times this year) anyway... I would like to back everything up- can I delete everything on the Time Capsule or Time Machine; god I dont even know what it is called Im so MAD... help if you can please. I am running a Intel Imac 2008 clean install SL then Lion upgrade, followed by Lion Server install.I have multiple home macs, and intnded the server as a way to monitor and restrict kids internet use.In short, it has changes/screwed up multiple programs, and complicated home sharing issues considerably. Mail on the server machine has permission problems (cannot send mail, unable to sign), Spotlight in mail is non-functioning, finder spotlight searches are inconsistent, etc.I want to revert to plain old Lion.
I have done disk utility/verify disk and verified/repaired permissions, and have 'fiddled' (i'm not an expert) in the keychain/certificates areas, but I think the best solution is a clean install of Lion. When I backup to TIme Machine, is there a way to pull a 'Lion' version of my disk image back, and just not upgrade to Server? I understand I can disable Server and turn off applications in Server, but it doesn't fix my buggy machine. My options are to back up my 250GB of music, 100GB of photos, 100GB of movies, etc on to external drives, and clean install and then reimport everything, but even that will probably mean I cant reinstall my single user licesnse of MS office, VMware fusion, etc that I didn't buy on the App store.

I recently bought a replacement keyboard on ebay for my MBP and just installed it. It's been about a week, and just today, I noticed the capslock key doesn't work.. I'm not sure if it has been this way, or if it recently just stopped. The light doesn't come on at all.
I was curious if this was a common problem? If not, is their anything I can do as a substitute for caps lock? Another key perhaps? Or, a button on the task bar or something?

woke up this morning to a software update, go to restart for the big osx update and the load bar gets about an eighth of the way home and freezes, disappears and then the computer powers down. happens consistently for the next 10 minutes or so, so i get into recovery mode>disk utility, HD wont verify, go to repair it and theres another error. Can I backup onto an external HD from disk utility in recovery mode or will it not let me?

i'm getting rid of my cable internet ISP. they place i have moved in, in India, is not a metropolitan region and there is just a terribly bad internet serivce here via cable. Disconnections to slow speed to high cost. so now i'm planning to move to 3G internet and use it all the time via my iphone 4. Â
the obvious problem is that that while 3g in this area isn't slow or intermittent, its still very costly. so i cannot afford to make a 4.5 gb download of os x lion (and mountain lion in future) everytime i have to clan install the OS. and unfortunately, this year i had to do it nearly thrice. back in the days of leopard and snow leopard this was like NEVER! anyway, So now i want to download LION while i'm still on cable internet and back it up on a usb stick or a dvd.

This is proving a bit a bit of a puzzle to me. I have a 1TB External LaCie hard drive connected directly to my iMac via USB. It has two partitions, both empty. I set the back-up going and it works for a while and then I get:"Time Machine could not complete the backup. The backup disk may have been ejected or disconnected from your computer." Â
I've amended the Energy Saver settings in the system preferences to keep the machine on given the length of time the first update is going to take, but this doesn't seem to make any difference - and I'm not even touching it! I promise! Then the drive disappears from the disk utility. I then have to turn it off and then on again to get it back. I have the TM widget and this is what it has to say:Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedFollowing Apples instructions on backing up the mail data and restoring as well as what I have so far found on the various forums has allowed me to move 99% of my mail to my new computer pretty much spot on except for one thing - the outgoing SMTP server list. Is there somewhere else I need to be looking for that information?Â
I have quite a few email accounts and with that comes quite a few outbound SMTP servers, much to my dismay I discovered that all of that information did not restore when I put the mail data all back into place. Now I assumed that perhaps it was in my keychain, but that would just be the passwords for the servers and not the list itself and the attachment of the various mail accounts to their respective SMTP servers, right?Â
So, my question is two-fold: one, is there a way to get that list back and have it attached to my 20+ email accounts and if I can do that then two, where in the keychain do I look in order to also get all those passwords back as well? It's not the end of the world, but just a big pain the butt.Â
On a side note, but related, I've also noticed that about 1/3rd of the email accounts I restored just won't log in and get mail, they just "spin" and bomb out, generally saying the password is bad even though I've put it in correctly numerous times (my mobile me account is one that comes to mind). Is this a known side effect of restoring? My only solution so far has been to delete those accounts and re-create them.Â

i just switched to the Mac a few days ago and i'm just trying to get my bearings in OS X. on Win7 i used a free program called 'syncback' that allowed me to select folders which would be automatically copied at a certain time interval to a USB thumb drive. i just want to backup my firefox profile folder so i can back it up and put it a USB thumb drive every 45 minutes or so. syncback isn't available on the mac so i was wondering what else was available.Â
