OS X V10.7 Lion :: Safari Freezes Up While Accessing Public Wifi?
Mar 15, 2012
Have a MacBook and MacBook Air both running Lion. On both machines - When opening safari to log in to a public wifi it freezes while trying to open the wifi login page. Safari becomes non responsive and has to be force quit.
MacBook running Snow Leopard works fine on same network. Both Lion machines work fine on my home wifi (airport base station / encrypted).
While on a recent trip, my wife tried to connect to an unsecured wifi network named "free public wifi". I told her to cancel it quick since I had remembered reading something about viral ssid's named that. Does anyone know if this would affect a mac? I'm not even convinced that if fully connected, since it wasn't listed in her preferred networks pane, but I just wanted to make sure.
I'm at the airport where they have free public wifi. There are about 40 people's macbook hard drives online with their drop box.
How do I disable my drop box on public wifi connections? How do I make a drop box alias that doesn't have my last name on it? This seems very insecure and an invasion of privacy to me.
I've been having trouble connecting my Macbook Air to public wifi in several airports (Denver, San Diego most recently). I select the SSID and get the signal just fine. When I launch Safari or Firefox, I see a redirect to an authentication page - but it never comes up - it just hangs. Using my iPhone and Safari, I can connect just fine. When the iPhone browser gets to the redirect screen, it comes up with a dialog box asking to accept a security certificate.
On the Macbook, I never get asked about a certificate. I can't find any settings that change this behavior. I am not blocking pop up windows blocked and I am accepting cookies. Any ideas on how to resolve this? I see lot's of other Macbooks in the airport browsing away so I know I must be doing something wrong.
how to save space on my MBA by pointing iTunes to my library on my Macbook Pro (While it is on). I've got sharing set up and I hold option while opening iTunes so that it asks me to choose my iTunes library. I try to point it to Shared > MBP > Username > Music > iTunes > iTunes library and it opens but doesn't show any of my media. Pointing iPhoto to my iPhoto library with a similar method works fine. Is there a file that I need to point it to hidden somewhere else? Apparently my media location on my MBP is iTunes > iTunes Media but it won't take that either.
OK so I've got this MacBook and I'm getting wifi signals from my neighbors and from my own.
I use mine and I get this PC server on Finder under "SHARED". I'm just a little bit conscious because it just stays there. How should I remove it to keep it from accessing my Mac.
after updating safari it keeps freezing on youtube Â
I tried to reset safari , re-install it , remove all extentions but i still have the sae issue  I also tried to re- install flash player click to flash  but no change Â
This just popped up in software update for me. First to post? This update is recommended for all users of the Safari 4 Public Beta and includes the latest security updates. For detailed information on the security content of this update, please visit this site: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222.
Apple on Tuesday announced a public beta of Safari 4, a new version of its share-gaining web browser that packs a powerful new JavaScript engine and support for the latest web standards. Dubbed "Nitro," the engine in Safari 4 is said to run JavaScript 4.2 times faster than Safari 3. Other new features include Top Sites, for a visual preview of frequently visited pages; Full History Search, to search through titles, web addresses and the complete text of recently viewed pages; Cover Flow, to easily flip through web history or bookmarks; and Tabs on Top, to make tabbed browsing easier and more intuitive. "Apple created Safari to bring innovation, speed and open standards back into web browsers, and today it takes another big step forward," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Safari 4 is the fastest and most efficient browser for Mac and Windows, with great integration of HTML 5 and CSS 3 web standards that enables the next generation of interactive web applications."
Performance In terms of performance, Apple claims Safari 4's new Nitro JavaScript engine executes JavaScript up to 30 times faster than Microsoft's IE 7 and more than three times faster than Firefox 3. It's also said to load HTML web pages three times faster than IE 7 and almost three times faster than Firefox 3. Safari 4 also represents the latest chapter in Apple's efforts to maintain its leadership role in defining and implementing web standards, with built in support for HTML 5 and CSS 3 -- two technologies critical in supporting an entirely new class of web applications that feature rich media, graphics and fonts. Safari 4 Beta tracks the sites you browse and ranks your favorites, presenting up to 24 thumbnails on a single page.
Specifically, the Cupertino-based company said the new browser includes HTML 5 support for offline technologies so web-based applications can store information locally without an Internet connection. A recent technology demonstration by Google highlighted the advantages this technology when it showed off a version of Gmail running offline on the iPhone's mobile version of Safari, which already includes support for some HTML 5 standards. Apple also said that Safari 4 is the first browser to support advanced CSS Effects that enable highly polished web graphics using reflections, gradients and precision masks. Similarly, it's said to be the first browser to pass the Web Standards Project's Acid3 test, which examines how well a browser adheres to CSS, JavaScript, XML and SVG web standards that are specifically designed for dynamic web applications.
Cover Flow offers a highly visual way of reviewing your site history and bookmarked sites, presenting full-page previews. Safari for Mac, Windows, iPhone and iPod touch are all built on Apple's WebKit, which the company has billed the "world's fastest and most advanced browser engine." Apple developed WebKit as an open source project to create the world's best browser engine and to advance the adoption of modern web standards. Most recently, WebKit led the introduction of HTML 5 and CSS 3 web standards and is known for its fast, modern code-base. Some of the industry's newest browsers are based on WebKit including Google Chrome, the Google Android browser, the Nokia Series 60 browser and Palm webOS. Safari 4 relocates the tab bar to the top of the browser window to provide "more room for you to enjoy the sites you're reading".
New features Safari 4 also includes a handful of new user interface features, including: Top Sites, a display of frequently visited pages in a wall of previews so users can jump to their favorite sites with a single click; Full History Search, where users search through titles, web addresses and the complete text of recently viewed pages to easily return to sites they've seen before; Cover Flow, to make searching web history or bookmarks "as fun and easy as paging through album art in iTunes;" Tabs on Top, for better tabbed browsing with easy drag-and-drop tab management tools and an intuitive button for opening new ones; Smart Address Field, that automatically completes web addresses by displaying an easy-to-read list of suggestions from Top Sites, bookmarks and browsing history; Smart Search Field, where users fine-tune searches with recommendations from Google Suggest or a list of recent searches; Full Page Zoom, for a closer look at any website without degrading the quality of the site's layout and text; built-in web developer tools to debug, tweak and optimize a website for peak performance and compatibility; and a new Windows-native look in Safari for Windows, that uses standard Windows font rendering and native title bar, borders and toolbars so Safari fits the look and feel of other Windows XP and Windows Vista applications. In total, Apple claims over 150 features in Safari 4. The public beta is available for download here. [ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]
Currently in my network, my public folder is showed as "Public folder of AAA BBB"Â from other(ps: AAA is my name BBB is my family name)
BUT i want remove my family name in the Public folder, i want something like that : "Public folder of AAA" when someone acces to my public folder in the network.
I already changed the name in User and Group panel but its still show my name+family name in the shared public folder
So I've had my iMac about a week now. I started a thread about not having any freezes. Well this weekend I experienced two. Both of which occurred while using iTunes (once while importing my old library into iTunes from an external USB drive, and once just having iTunes open). Not much rhyme or reason to the freezes nothing in the crash logs. This is slightly depressing, since the replacements people are getting seem to freeze as well. I still don't think this is Wi-Fi related. I just think there's a serious conflict between the ATI 4850 chip and the rest of the hardware. This is pretty much unacceptable for a new machine.
Right now I'm saving for the 20" model (2.66). Would The 20" 2.66 iMac Freeze Like The 4850 Issue? Will it freeze like the upper model with wi-fi on? Making sure before I invest in an iMac.
i have 1 user on my imac. when i access the imac over my network from my mbp, i see 3 folders - the hard drive folder, the main user folder, and also a public folder from a previous user which i have since deleted. there should only be 2 folders visible.Â
when i search the imac, i can't find this rogue orphan public folder at all. how do i delete it?
I am having numerous crashes of the safari browser and tonight it happened 4 times in a row as I was accessing facebook. The trouble shooting said the following and hope you can help...thanks:
Finally I can reproduce the freezing of my macbook air. If I change from wifi location for example i go to work from home the following happens:Â the MBA will not fall a sleep resulting in a very hot MBA in my bag.the MBA will fall a sleep but it is not possible to wake it up againthe MBA will fall a sleep and is able to wake up again after opening the lid but now it will freeze the entire mac within 5-10 minutes.Â
I have to push the power button for a long time in either cases.Â
I just did a complete restore so i have no extra software installed.Â
I have turned on File Sharing on the server, and having logged into my iDisk via Finder, I thought I could drag the folder from the Finder window to the Public folder icon on Lion Server, but no luck. Â
I am signed into Lion Server as the admin, so what should I do? I'm trying to copy those files from the iDisk before time runs out and Apple scrubs iDisk!Â
I'm trying to access my desktop at work. On my old laptop which was running Windows Vista I just accessed via IE but on safari it says I need to download activex controls. Where I can get this for safari or my other options?
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)
We have a 1TB Apple Time Capsule for documents like invoices, client agreements, etc. Sometimes during video shoots we need certain files like scripts, schedules, inventory lists, etc. How can I view the documents on the Time Capsule via mobile Safari on my iPhone? I don't want to use my MobileMe iDisk b/c we have more than 10GB of files. And it needs to be through the Time Capsule bc we don't want to deal with duplicate files if we had copies on DropBox or iDisk.
Recently updated to OS X Lion Version 10.7.4 and have had nothing but trouble with Safari ever since. From very slow loading pages to screen freezes and inability to scroll down on many websites, it's driving me crazy! Is is Safari? Is it my network? Is it the new operating system?
I have been having this problem for a while. It happens every now and then, sometimes more often too. Sometimes at random times, when I try to access https websites in Safari such as Internet banking, signing in into eBay etc, it has an error.
It says "Safari can't open the page because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server signin.ebay.com.au". To resolve this problem I always have to turn off my Airport and then turn it back on. See screenshot - [URL]
I've also tried opening it in Firefox and it also doesn't work. In Firefox, the error is "Data Transfer Interrupted: The connection to signin.ebay.com.au has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred." See screenshot - [URL]
I am using at home an iMac connected ( with cable ) to my Home WiFi Router. All other products are using the same WIfI home network ( Without a cable ).Can I define my iMac to use ONLY MY HOME WIFI instead of other unwanted wifi networks ?
I just installed Lion to my Mac (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3), and somehow I now seem to have trouble accessing internet. I use Wi-fi, and the actual connection with our internet-provider works just fine (we have other computers in the house, and have not experienced any trouble with them). When I want to use internet I have to go to the network panel, click on "help me", and run a diagnostics. After that, I have no problem assessing internet.Â
Is there a way to prevent apps from accessing files that are in the trash? I recently got bit when I moved some files to the trash, checked to make sure that nothing was broken, and then took out the trash. Turned out some applications were still using the files while they were in the trash. Is there a way, either in terminal or finder, to leave the files in the trash but make it so no apps can see them? It would be nice if this was the normal behavior.
I have a new MacBook Pro and instead of restoring it from a previous Time Machine backup, I was hoping I could access part of the backup and copy some contents on to the new MacBook Pro. Can it be done?Â
For example, my Time Machine backup has 80gb of music in it, can I access that from my new MacBook Pro and copy the music?
