Safari :: Need To Download ActiveX Controls For Accessing Desktop?
Jun 13, 2012
I'm trying to access my desktop at work. On my old laptop which was running Windows Vista I just accessed via IE but on safari it says I need to download activex controls. Where I can get this for safari or my other options?
Does anyone know of a simple way to set up a VNC server on OS X so that the computer can be accessed through an in-browser Java applet? I found a guide here, but it seems to be rather out of date.
When accessing a remote desktop on a mac to use a windows program is this functional and will it slow the mac down or create other vulnerabilities or will it run smoothly?

I made a misstake. I was testing out parental controls and it prompted me to create an administrator account and put my account under parental controls. When I did that and applied restrictions to my account i set it so that only accepted sites (ones allowed by the administerator and in the bookmarks bar) could be visit.
After a few days I went back and deled the administrator and got rid of parental controls but now all my bookmarks and folders are gone.
Is there a way I can get all my bookmarks back? (I don't have a time machine hooked up, but I am running OSX 10.7 Lion)

I just got a new job and the terminal server requires ActiveX. Is there a substitute or some kind of alternative that I can use or am I just SOL? Not sure what to do.
The download desktop icon went up in smoke and I can't get it back...before when I downloaded a file from email I could go on my tool bar and access the downloads...now I can only get them in finder. How can I get the download file icon back?
I am having numerous crashes of the safari browser and tonight it happened 4 times in a row as I was accessing facebook. The trouble shooting said the following and hope you can help...thanks:
Have a MacBook and MacBook Air both running Lion. On both machines - When opening safari to log in to a public wifi it freezes while trying to open the wifi login page. Safari becomes non responsive and has to be force quit.
MacBook running Snow Leopard works fine on same network. Both Lion machines work fine on my home wifi (airport base station / encrypted).

We have a 1TB Apple Time Capsule for documents like invoices, client agreements, etc. Sometimes during video shoots we need certain files like scripts, schedules, inventory lists, etc. How can I view the documents on the Time Capsule via mobile Safari on my iPhone? I don't want to use my MobileMe iDisk b/c we have more than 10GB of files. And it needs to be through the Time Capsule bc we don't want to deal with duplicate files if we had copies on DropBox or iDisk.
I have been having this problem for a while. It happens every now and then, sometimes more often too. Sometimes at random times, when I try to access https websites in Safari such as Internet banking, signing in into eBay etc, it has an error.
It says "Safari can't open the page because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server signin.ebay.com.au". To resolve this problem I always have to turn off my Airport and then turn it back on. See screenshot - [URL]
I've also tried opening it in Firefox and it also doesn't work. In Firefox, the error is "Data Transfer Interrupted: The connection to signin.ebay.com.au has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred." See screenshot - [URL]
How can I download osx 10.6 to desktop iMac? I don't want to wait for a disc to me mailed to me. I need to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard to use my new Photoshop CS6.My computer: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 speed processor with 3 GB memory.
Not sure when it happened, but I can no longer drag & drop from my download folder to the desktop. I can, however, go through 'Find" and drop the file that way. I am running OS X. I'm on a MacBook Pro.
i have an ISP that i am considering 'breaking up' with. of course i have a ton of emails on their servers that i wish to copy to my computer before i do so.
is there an easy way of doing this, la drag and drop? all of my searches end up talking about the application Mail which i don't currently use.
I don't ever see rubbish like this on my mac - A POP up with no exit cues
I run ClamAx daily as I'm a Internet Marketer so pretty much live on this machine (and a pretty cool pc) all day and do plenty of downloading. Ive got this pop up on my screen this morning
The options are Visit website Update Later Download Now
This is definately not right. It has no label and no buttons to close or remove so I'm fairly sure its dangerous. How do I get rid of this blasted thing? I cant find out what or where it is?
Have some problems to buy/ download Splashtop Remote Desktop form the App Store.I receive a message saying something like "Product distributor file could not be found or is corrupt" (translated from german to english).
I have a macbook pro 13 inch late 2011. Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks, all downloads generate an RTF file in the Desktop. If I'm not checking constantly and erasing these files, suddenly the desktop is full of useless RTF files.
I've got a real odd problem with safari 4. For some reason it is cutting my download speeds in about 1/2 from my server and many other places.
If I restart safari I will be able to download close to my 18 Mbps for a little bit but then it will just start to slow down and after about 30 minutes it will be down to about 6 - 8 Mbps.
I am new to a mac and have the download setting set up to drop on desktop when I download something.
My question is that I downloaded some widgets today for the desktop like "The Weather Channel" one. When it finished downloaded, it appeared on the desktop as two files a zip file and another file. I then had to click on it to run it but in the end I had to move the zip file to the trash after I was done installing it. Is that normal. Should there be two files each time. Do I need to turn on/off a setting.
Also happened when I clicked on a video to watch, I was streaming it but when I flashed to my desktop it downloaded it also. Is this normal.
I am unable to open PDF files. All I get is a blank black screen. I now download PDFs into my computer from the internet (with mixed success), which is several steps more than has ever taken me in the past. Since finding this problem I have updated the Adobe Reader and run system updates today, to no avail. Adobe reports that there is a compatibility issue between Safari 5.1 and Adobe Reader. They offer several solutions none of which has worked for me. [URL]. Is updating Safari going to work for me, or are there other solutions?
