OS X V10.7 Lion :: Since Installing Lion, Mac Keeps Reverting To A Lower Resolution?
Mar 24, 2012
I have a 2010 mini that shipped with Snow Leopard. I hooked up to my TV with display set at 1080p and had no problems for a year and a half. I just installed Lion, though, and a few times now, when the computer wakes up from sleep, it has changed to a lower resolution. I can go back into System Preferences and change it back, but I don't think I should have to. This is a Mac, after all.

1440x900 resolution of the new MacBook Air 13.3" screen is simply too high, making everything way too small and straining on my eyes. Is there a replacement LED LCD panel with a lower resolution (1280x800 like the old MBA) that could be retrofitted?

I have just purchased a new Mac Pro (august 2014) basic configuration ( see below)Â
Quad-Core and Dual GPU
3.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5 processor
12GB 1866MHz DDR3 ECC memory
Dual AMD FirePro D300with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM each
256GB PCIe-based flash storageÂ
From reviews seen so far the 4K monitors available do not achieve the 60Hz refresh rate...
The other issue is that the price of these displays is somewhat extravagant at the moment and since I intend to use my Mac pro for other applications and not Video and Photo editing I would like to ask whether a display of resolution (say 1920X1080) would work with my new Mac Pro.Â

I'm thinking of buying an ACD 27inch. Given that I need to view the monitor from a greater distance than normal (music/recording uses) and that sometimes I find the text in some apps a little too small at that resolution, I was wondering how the display looks on the lower resolution for increased text size? I tried it in the store on 1920x1080 and it appeared to be quite readable and the text was nice and big even though the image was not as sharp. I assume this is the same as running a 24inch ACD in terms of real estate but with bigger text. I think the ppi would be lower for the 27 inch on 1080p resulting in bigger and more easily readable text for my purposes. Although the screen didn't appear as sharp on the lower resolution, the text seemed OK and there didn't seem to be any limitations to viewing. So, in general is there much distortion or is it usable for most tasks if one needs the bigger text or should I go for the lower screen size. From the store it seemed like it would satisfy me, but I want to know if there are distortion issues and if text and images are still decent?
Also, due to the glossy screen in a room with windows, is it important to close all the blinds in the day time to reduce glare? What kind of light source is recommended in the room in terms of brightness level? I have two windows with light curtains that allow strong sunlight through.

Basically during installations, everything is reverting to French, even after switching to English I still get French menus like below. I did at some point have a dual language/keyboard option for English and French but now all French options are entirely unselected in every menu, preference etc..

My old 24" iMac had an ATI radeon 4850 card, and playing some of my favorite game titles (fallout 3, and Dawn of War) worked fine - atleast in comparison to my old White iMac 24".
Now I'm going to purchase a 27" i5 iMac with the Radeon 4850 card. My question is; since its the same GPU and playing in native resolution will be a tough job. Will the quality of playing games in 1080p be much lower?
I just want to know if this will be a significante downgrade. Or if playing games in 1920x1080 will be a good quality choice.

I just installed the 10.7.3? My "old" MacBook is a late 2008, 2.4Mhz, 8GbRAM. After instaling the new Lion, my 2nd monitor stopped working, so, before rushing after hardware problems, I connected it to my new MB (Pro 15" early 2011, 2.2Mhz, 16GbRAM) and it worked normally. So, back to the old one, I tried many drivers, etcs... after some time, I noted that the external monitor flicked many times with the "normal" image and turned black... I changed the 2nd monitor's resolution and it worked stable, so, now I can only use 1280X1024 instead of 1680X1050...Â

I am using Win 7 Home Edition 64 bit on an mid 2011 iMac via BootCamp; the problem is that i cannot select the 1600x900 screen resolution, as it is not available as an option at the Control Panel menu. I have reinstalled the windows support software, installed drivers directly from the ATI's site (both for desktop and notebook use) but the above resolution is not available. When i boot into Mac OS X, the 1600 x 900 resolution is available and is the one selected.

Seeing video driver issues with the 10.7.3 upgrade? My monitor now looks like this (not sure why the pic upside down). This happened after the download from software update, re-applying the combo pack, and re-installing 10.7.0 and applying the 10.7.3 combo pack. I'm not in the process of reinstalling again and will apply the 10.7.2 update.

I have a 27" iMac and have connected a Philips 160e as a pallette monitor via a Mini Display Port to VGA adaptor. the iMac sees it but auto picks the wrong resolution 1280 x 1024 (stretched) instead of the Philips' 1366 x 768 @ 60Hz.
If I try to change the resolution the screen goes black which is symptomatic of using the wrong refresh rate, and of course I can make no further adjustments. esc does not get me out of the black screen.Â
What is worse the iMac seems to remember the wrong resolution/refresh rate after restarts.Â
I have tried Safe Mode (it stayed black) and booting off an external hard drive into another system (back into black if I change the display settings).
I have gone into System Preferences > Display > Color >unchecked 'Show profiles for this display only' > selected > Philips 160E in the list
It only contains .icc profile information, which I suppose is to be expected but is the only access I can find to any specific model data. The same display works fine with an older 24" iMac, using a different adaptor because of the different display port.
Somewhere OSX is storing the settings for the external monitor, I'd love to be able to trash it or change it back.

I was running a high resolution just fine for the last month or two on my screen, then after todays update and restart my desktop came back at a much lower resolution (1024) than previous and now some of my apps wont even fit in my screen. When I navigate to system preferences to toggle resolutions, the one I have now is my only option. How do I reset the resolution if I cant get to it in system preferences

My Macbook pro (Lion) starts up very slow. Many things seem to happen during startup. The screen goes small, blue, back and many times the loginscreen is coming up in a lower resolution. When I do a Pram reset it starts up with the correct resolution but after a couple of startups it goes back to 800x600 resolution (I guess). When I Log in the resolution is ok so only the login screen is a lower resolution. And if there is a solution beyond resetting the PRAM?

Today I did my normal software update as usual only to find out the Lion update left me with only two choices of screen resolution, 1920x1200(too big) and 960x600(too small), on my 24" iMac. The same update did not affect my Pro. As I need a 1024x768 screen resolution on my iMac, how can I restore those screen resolution settings? I called AppleCare, and they sent me an additional update that I downloaded and installed but it did not change anything. My iMac is right at 5 years old. Do these things ever get to the point that updates create such problems? Everything was working perfectly until this happened. Plus they said there's no way to go back(that is, return to the same point that I was before the update).

I just installed Lion 10.4.7 upgrade on my iMac (only 6 months old). I have 5 user accounts on this iMac (A, B, C, D and Guest). With prior version of Lion, these would all be displayed in the login window for selection. Now, with 10.4.7, depending upon the resolution in effect by a user when he logs out, if it is a lower resolution (i.e., 1024X768) the login window will not contain the rightmost user selections, D and Guest in this example. If the user had a higher resolution (i.e., 1920X1080) all 5 users account selections will be visible. An individual user's desired resolution should not be effecting the login window, should it?

I have a 500 GB Hard drive in my early 2011 MacBook Pro and will be adding a a second SSD Drive in the former location of my optical drive. I purchased a 64GB SSD and only want to transfer the operating sytem and apps. How can I do this? I am familiar with super duper but think that only exact copies can be made. Is there any other way that I can transfer just Mac OSX Lion and my Apps to my new hard drive?Â

how to install the Lion OS on more than one computer? I downloaded and installed Lion on my iMac today, but want to do the same for my other two computers as well. Is there a way to find the DMG file and save it onto a flash drive instead of downloading it all over again? I searched using Spotlight and could not find the downloaded file anywhere.Â

I have Xcode 4.3.2 downloaded from MacApp store. However, it didn't set my environment for development libraries at all. So I included /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/usr/bin/ in PATH so it can find common utilities like make, cc, etc. I have installed mysql-5.5.23-osx10.6-x86_64 from MySQL's DMG archive. That went smooth - I am able to start and stop the server. Get in using mysql command line client interface and execute queries, etc. Perl came preinstalled with 10.7.3 Lion. Version of perl is 5.12.3. I am now trying to install DBD::MySQL driver for interfacing with perl and ran into issues. According to MySQL documentation, I first tried to install this driver using -Â
shell> perl -MCPAN -e shell
cpan> force install DBD::mysqlÂ
But this failed with make errors (the error is same as reported further below). Then, after days of googling, I found the original post by etresoft on installing this driver. I followed the steps documented in that post (reproduced below for easy reference). My comments in italics. Download the MySQL Perl driver. Done. My version of DBD happens to be 4.021.Â
Extract the archive with:
tar xvf DBD-mysql-4.021.tarÂ
Move into the directory:
cd DBD-mysql-4.021Â
First, fix the MySQL client library. (credit) For Lion, type:sudo install_name_tool -id /usr/local/mysql-5.5.14-osx10.6-x86_64/lib/libmysqlclient.18.dylib /usr/local/mysql-5.5.14-osx10.6-x86_64/lib/libmysqlclient.18.dylib Done. No issues.

I am trying to update my iMac from Snow Leopard to Lion via a purchased download. The first time it wouldn't install because it said the disk was corrupted and needed to be wiped. So I wiped it and restored to the starting position, did disk repair (all fine). Downloaded it again, after several failed attempts. Finally got it to download and install only to discover it wasn't working properly - Mail for instance didn't work - and used OSX recovery to reinstall, which downloaded "components" for 8 hours and then I got a big yellow triangle warning saying "installation failed." Â
I have used up all my high speed internet connection allowance for the month trying to do this, and am now back on a restored version of Snow Leopard. Any advice gratefully received! I simply don't have the ability or patience to try to download another 4GB.

I recently tried to wipe my HD and reinstall OSX Lion again to wipe my computer and start again. But now i am having difficulty installing Lion again as when i reset my MacBook Pro it comes up with the internet recovery and the option to reinstall OSX Lion.Once i click on that option it says its verifying the update with apple, then comes up with an error message saying an error occurred while preparing the installation please open application again. Or something along those lines this effectively leaves my computer unusable as i cannot do anything else with it.

I just installed Lion to my Mac (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3), and somehow I now seem to have trouble accessing internet. I use Wi-fi, and the actual connection with our internet-provider works just fine (we have other computers in the house, and have not experienced any trouble with them). When I want to use internet I have to go to the network panel, click on "help me", and run a diagnostics. After that, I have no problem assessing internet.Â
