OS X V10.7 Lion :: Changed My Admin Account To Standard
May 19, 2012 I installed Mac OS X Server from Mac App Store. Then I deleted it, but Mac OS X Server changed my administrator account to standard account and I cannot administrate my Mac mini :-(. I cannot use my password and there is not any other administrator account. Do you know to change back my standard account to administator account?

May 16, 2010I just restored my 13" Macbook Pro from a Time Machine Backup that was created on a 15" Macbook Pro via Migration Assistant, and I have been experiencing some weird problems. The weirdest thing is that I cannot change my account from Standard to Administrator, even if I am logged into the root account. When I authenticate and click on the check box that says "Allow User to Administer This Computer", the box goes blank again and a box shows up telling me a restart is needed.

Sep 17, 2010Somehow all the accounts on my computer automatically changed to standard. The mac website said that this can happen after an upgrade and to fix it run the "reset password" utility from the install disc. I am using a school computer so I don't know where a mac os disk is. I am using OSX 10.5.8. I also don't know the root password.
I tried this to fix it : [URL] but the account I created was also set to standard. Is there any way to fix this without the install disc?

Software :: Sole User Changed From Admin To Standard?
Nov 24, 2008After updating from 10.5.1 to 10.5.5, my account changed from Admin access to Standard. The problem is, I never had Root enabled and I also do not have Netinfo manager on my computer. The login screen only shows my account... no Guest or anything else. I keep going in circles as everything comes down to having to type in an admin name and password, but there are no admin accounts on the computer. I've been working on this for hours now and I'm about to just set up a new HD and transfer my files, but I'd like to figure this out before surrendering to that.

Before I could get back, the user changed that account to a standard account and changed the name. Now there is no way to change the account back, because there is no admin to authenticate the change. Anything I can do? I am not an advanced computer/Mac person.

May 17, 2009I have recently noticed that all of my accounts have become Standard accounts. I no longer have Administrator privileges for my computer (MacBook). I tried going through Root to change my normal account back to Administrator but according to my accounts preference pane even my Root account is listed as standard. I can check the allow user to be an administrator on this computer but it does not save this preference and will un-check once another user is selected or the window is closed.
I have also tried creating a new account through single user mode but again to no avail.How would I go about fixing this problem? I would like to install some new software and some software is no longer working the way it once did since this change.

Jun 3, 2010I have just lost my user account that I normally use. It happened after I changed my name for my user account in the Finder. I clicked Get Info and changed the name from Helen Andersson to only Helen. and after that nothing is the same and i cant go back either that I know of. When I start the computer now everything that I had on my desktop and in my Itunes, Icalendar, addressbook, and Aperture are not there. I have found them (well at least what i had on my desktop and my itunes but not the other information), so they are still on the computer but I dont know how to get back to my normal user account.
When I check my System preferences Account I only have one account so its not like I made a new one and have two. But I can also see that the one I am using now that has nothing on it is made today.
So please if anyone can help me get my iMac to go back to the old user and all its settings the same way I would very much appreciate it. Because this user has nothing and I have to start everything from scratch even my internet settings I had to download again to be able to go on the internet. This user has nothing.

Jun 28, 2012I am not sure how it happened but after upgrading the gmail account, the user accounts were changed from standard users to Mobile Me users. None of the users has ever had that type of account, and I am trying to figure out how to get it back to a standard user account. When the user attempts to log in, it asks for the user name, but also the Mobile Me user name (which they do not have). to make it worse, Mobile Me is no longer accpting new users, so I annot just add an account and log in using the new info.

I tried to do what the apple website said, and change passwords and check off the "allow user to administer" box, but when i log out of root user and back into my main account, the box is not checked off. Nor when logged in as the root user will it let me to lock the settings to make sure it goes through.

Feb 8, 2010I'm about to buy a used MBP unibody 13" and no... its not stolen, seller has receipts for MBP and Applecare. Its about a year old. So I'm just wondering how difficult it is to delete his admin account and make a new one? I know I could just add an account, but that's goofy. The machine only has iWorks and iLife installed and has been upgraded to Snow Leopard. Is this the same as a PC... reformat the HDD and reinstall the OS and two apps or is there a simpler route? Will the SL CD from my iMac 24 work with the MBP? Is the other alternative to bring it to an Apple store and have them reconfigure? That's a ride+ and how much will they charge for that? BTW, are there "older" spec unibody MBP's? This one was purchased early in 2009, just wondered if there were different graphics in different releases? This one has the 2.53G procesor, 250G HDD, and 4 Megs or RAM.

Jun 24, 2014Two days ago when I woke up and open my MacBook Pro (OS Maverick), I started with a strange windows (than we can get with cmd+r). My hard drive was broken so I followed the proposed steps. I made a backup with TimeMachine. I lost a lot of data 'cause I wasn't able to go back on the Finder and save the things I need. So, I lost important things... Well, after Time Machine backup, I had few more troubles. Now, I can't use a lot of my software. I try to update everything, BUT my user profil isn't administrator anymore.

But how does an administrator make the dock how it should be (for students) and then turn on the restrictions so that the students cannot change how the teacher made it? I first tried to make the account an admin account and changed the icons while logged in, then logged out (and logged in as a separate admin) and changed the student account to Standard. Logged in as student but the dock didn't save what I changed, it went to a default dock that I cannot change!

Jan 6, 2010I am a network administrator and an mac user. No one else is my IT dept knows anything about macs so I have been given the responsibility of managing our 5 or so Mac's in the company. I've been able to figure everything out fine, but I have one user that insists on turning on the screensaver password on his computer. Now on windows, you can unlock a computer using an administrator account but on mac this is not the case. I want to disable the option for the screensaver password but I do not know how. The user is a local administrator on the computer because that is needed for a few things but he is making it impossible for me to work on his computer because of the password. Also, I've tried telling him not to enable it but he seems to not care what I think.

Feb 3, 2010I recently took my iMac into a Mac store to get a new hard drive because the old one bit the dust. When I got back home, I realized that the apple "genius" spelt my name wrong as the admin. I know its' not a big deal but this bugs me to death. So, I made a new admin with my correctly spelled name and deleted the mispelled name. Is this ok or is this going to jack up my computer?
