Time Machine does full backups of my MBP almost every day.I carry it back and forth between my office and my home so I don't know if it does a full bakcup every time the network changes or if this is the result of a bug.A daily full backup is rather excessive and Time Machine doesn't have any user configurable settings regarding type and frequency of backup.

My new MacBook Air running latest as of today Lion seems to do full backups way more often than I'd like. Just this morning it finished up a full back up, then I noticed it did a small incremental. Now it is doing another full back up for no apparent good reason. I have not made any significant changes to the system at all. I'm backing up to an external drive that is attached to my AE. How to reduce the amount of Fulls it does because each day seems it does a couple.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I first purchased Lion and used the iCal application, I was able to set Reminders to repeat themselves on a daily basis (eg. Take Your Pill). But now, for some unknown reason, this option has disappeared. I have one reminder that still shows this (since I have not marked it completed), but I cannot create any new daily reminders. What happened? Did Apple remove this option from iCal?

Multiple entries about this form may users is there a bug in OSX update? My recovery partition holds 10.7.2 any idea if this is bug prone as well?

Need some recommendations to doing full image backups of my entire hard drive.I currently use Acronis TrueImage 11 for my PC's but since i have a Macbook, i need to be able to backup both my HFSJ partition (OS X) and my NTFS boot camp partition (Vista).Acronis TI does not read HFSJ partitons and will only backup my NTFS partition.Simply put. I have been running winclone for my windows partition and it is simply amazing. I was wondering if I back up from time machine, do all of my programs fall back into place perfectly with serial codes, etc. maintained? I ask because I am in the process of choosing the automated TM backups, or just doing CC clones myself because of how simple it is to restore a backup from a clone.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Time Machine has been making the usual regular backups for a few months onto my Time Capsule. I just found that all the backups prior to about a week ago have vanished. It's not a disaster (I think) as I assume that the current backups reflect what's on my iMac (I haven't had to delete files from it yet).
Where did they go? Why did they go?
A possible connection: My TC is 500GB; my iMac 1TB. I recently put extra files for temporary use onto the iMac hard drive - Time Machine said (in effect) 'that's too much, try removing certain folders from the backup'. I excluded said folder and things seemed okay, but it would be at around the time I did that that my old backups have gone.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with the Time Machine. I bought a 500gb Time Capsule last July and it has been running perfectly until a few days agp. I noticed that all my backups were no where to be seen (when entering Time Machine on my MBP) and that it was doing a full backup.. The backup took the guts of 36 hours.
I've come home today to find that all backups are gone again and it is doing another full backup!!!Any ideas what is wrong here?
after insalling Lion (10.7.3), it made a backup on time machine (approx 20 GB) and all went fine. Next backup, I noticed the message "deleting old backups" (or something like this). I though it was just some clean up after the installation... taking too much actually, a bit suspicious...So I was *horrified* when I discovered that Lion was actually deleting ALL previous backups, (say a couple of years history).I stopped in in time do save just the last month I am incredibly disappointed ! Why in the world that could happen ??? Now I lost all my hystory.
The only option I have is to try some disk recovery option, but I am sure that even if I find the old file it could be impossible to restore them in the time machine backups history, which I understand is rather complex and impossible to fix "by hand" , isn't it ?

I have a TimeMachine drive running for years over USB. Yesterday I connected it to my AirPort Extreme and ran TimeMachine by accident. Now when plugging the drive back to USB, TM will let me browse all the old backups, but when I try to perform a new backup it acts as if it's the first time I'm running it — meaning it indexes everything and try to store a full copy of my files (which it can't since the drive is full with the old backups).
what might have happened when I ran TM over the network and moved back to USB? Is there any way to force TimeMachine to use the old backups? It's really cryptic how I can browse the backed up files but not make a new backup.

I have recently connected a NAS and have attemted to use Time Machine as a backup and have been met with failure. I have attempted most things in the forums to no avail. I have also transferred about 700gb from another mac to the NAS with no problem. Here is the syslog:

There appears to be several threads regarding deleteing Time Machine backups but I can't seem to get the correct answer to delete the entire backup folder (Backups.backupdb). I move the location of my backups files and they are working fine now so I want to delete the folder on the disk it used to backup to. How can I do that? I have everything backedup to the proper disk so I don't need this folder any longer.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an external drive partitioned into 4s, 3 of them are for backups. I backed up each computer via USB, then connected the external to my Airport Extreme. I've done this before, and all worked well, however, this time around not so much. None of the computers recognize the previous backup and want to do a complete backup over wifi, which as you can imagine would take forever, especially for my iMac with 400 GB to back up. how can I get my computers to recognize the previous backups without having to connect the external via USB every time I want to back my computers up?

At first (all of a sudden out of the blue) I could not enter Time Machine mode for love or money despite clicking on the enter time machine action botton, however I could run a 'backup now' at any point and this appeared to go through as well as the hourly automated ones. Then switching Off then back On Time Machine suddenly allowed me to enter Time Machine; however I am only able to access the finder windows for any local 'white tick' backups which in my case were only for the last several snapshot backups for today... but if I try and access any dates after this right back until November 2011 last year, nothing happens at all and the date/backup markers are completely unaccessible. Incidently, all of these previous 'purple tick' date markers (time machine backups/snapshots on external firewire 800 drive) were accessible before, but know they can't be accessed even though they corecctly index the appropriate dates right back until November.
I'ts worth pointing out that I've had many glitces and random problems since using a Thunderbolt Display which is where the external hard-drive containing the time machine backup is hooked up to. A seperate recent issue is constantly losing sound on the Thunderbolt Display which requires a reboot to get it back temporarily, but this is a seperate issue but may be related if the cause of a number of problems may be originating from the TD.
The external disk drive containing the time machine backup image, appears to be online ok as I'm able to access the drive in a normal manner.Has some kind of special links nature or association relasionship between the Time Machine program and the external drive and backup disk image contained on it been disrupted or broken? If this is the case, can they be re-linked or re-associated?

I'm having a strange problem with Time Machine. Any backup older than 1 week seems to go missing when viewed from Time Machine. Time Machine preferences shows my oldest backup as February 13th, 2012. But, when I enter Time Machine only entries back to March 14th, 2012 are shown. When I use "sudo tmutil listbackups" all my backups are shown including the one from February 13th. Why aren't they showing up in Time Machine? The disk still has 89 GB available and I can see that the log is adding incremental backups and deleting old ones from February that are no longer useful (daily-backups removed so that only weekly ones are visible).

My Time Capsule backups are taking too long. Time Machine says it is indexing. However, I have had my Time Machine configured since I installed Lion last year and it has been making automatic backups every hour since. Why is it 'indexing' now, and why is it taking so long?

Most of whats on there is old backups from the past year & 1/2 that I have no use for anymore. is there a way to delete all of the backups that are on there right now without deleting the other files I've put on there. I had a Mac from 2006. Bought a new one in 2011. I have a time machine back up from my old mac.. This HD was damaged in 2010 and recently repaired. I bought a new HD and used it with time machine on my new mac. I am looking for something on my old Time Machine... Specifically iTunes playlists.. They are very difficult to find by just searching through the back up folder.. What I want to do is, enter the old time machine on my old HD and export some of the iTunes playlists to my new HD. Then of course go back to my current time machine back up and continue using my computer... Can I do this? and Can I have both Time machine devices connected to the computer at the same time?

After the initial full back-up and first few updates, the backup folder (on an external 1.5 TB Firewire drive) continues to show the original "date modified" of the very first back-up and lists the size as a ridiculous 2.48 GB. (Using BackupLoupe, I know it actually is 280 GB, reflecting the size of my internal HD). why this folder's info is not updating in the finder (even using "Get Info")? Are my back-ups really there? (It certainly seems so according to BackupLoupe).

I use Time Machine to wirelessly backup my MBA to a Buffalo NAS. It will work fine for weeks or months, then I will see the dreaded "Time Machine completed a verification of your backups. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you.” error. Of course this means I lose all my backups.I have researched this pretty thoroughly and I know that using TM with a NAS has some risk. But I am hoping to not have to resort to dragging out a USB drive everytime (daily) I want to do a backup.Can anyone share sucess stories of how they make TM work reliably with a NAS? Is it a Buffalo problem and a different NAS works better?
