My friend from the UK has just boaght a Macbook Air running OSX Lion from here in the US.Â
She is pretty happy with the US keyboard layout if only she could re-program the $ ket to print out a £.Â
Any ideas on how she can do that?Â
I have an Apple bluetooth keyboard for my macbook pro. I got it a while ago and remember that a friend of mine had used it with his macbook once just to try it out. I haven't used the keyboard for some months and decided to start using it again recently, however, every time I turn it on, it is recognized as "John Smith's keyboard" rather than my name. I'm rather annoyed since it's always been my keyboard! I'm browsing around and can't seem to figure out how to change the name of the keyboard.

I have one of the new Macbook Pros. The F4 key has a little picture of the dashboard on it, hit that key and the dashboard pops up. I don't use dashboard enough to have it warrant its own key. So I don't want that, I want what I had on my iBook - I hit one of the function keys and Expose shows me the open windows for the application I'm in. I think fine, I'll just repurpose the F4 key. So into keyboard>keyboard shortcuts in system preferences, double click the Expose shortcut for Application Windows and make it F4.
The Dashboard still pops up for F4. Go into the keyboard tab and check the box that reads: "use all F1 F2 etc keys as standard function keys" and tada, the F4 key now does what I want. But obviously the volume keys etc now don't. So I thought I'd just go into keyboard shortcuts and set all the shortcuts to match the pictures on the keys. But I can't find most of them. I've got to be missing a trick - I know if I uncheck that function keys box again I can make expose pop up by holding fn and F4 but I don't want that, I just want F4 to bring up expose instead of the dashboard while the rest of the function keys do what Apple designed them to.
I have a MacBook2,1 - the white one with the 'old style keyboard' i.e. with the expose and spaces keys on f8,f9 keys etc. I am wondering as my work machine has the the expose keys on f3, and f4 keys and the new white macbook has the same keyboard layout with the expose key etc on the early f keys is it possible to purchase a new Macbook keyboard and put it in the older macbook.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI spilled alcohol on macbook keyboard, so I bought and just received a wireless keyboard which I paired with my computer, but the shortcuts at the top of my keyboard aren't doing what they should be doing. I went into system preferences and was able to change it so I can change the brightness, but from F7 to F12, where you are suppose to be able to change the song, play/pause, mute and turn the volume up and down, it does other things. I've tried adding an application to my keyboard shortcuts, added iTunes and then wrote "Volume Up" and set it to F12, and "Volume Down" and set it to F11, but it didn't work. Is there certain words I have to put for it to work?

I recently changed the batteries on my wireless Apple Keyboard. When I turned the Mac back on the keyboard wouldn't connect. Confused, I went in to system preferences where I got this message. I then go back to the proxy settings and find that the password has been changed to about twice the length of before.Â

I recently bought and installed the Lion over the SnowLeopar, creating a partition for the Lion Instalation. The problem is that i don't quite know how could I install Lion on my new HD. I set my computer name to my full name and I wish I had not done that but by the time i decided to change it or re do a user I installed so much that I dont want to sit and spend a few hours re installing everything and setting my browsers to how they are, so my question is is there an easier way to change my macs name to something else with out having to re install anything?Â

It seems that every now and then when I log in, my hard drive icon has changed to something strange.
So far I've had a house, and a filing cabient.

I work in an IT environment where we are adding more and more Macs every day. I have been charged with researching joining Macs to the domain. Before, we've had them unbound but we've decided to change that.Our environment is nearly entirely Windows based on the server-side. On Windows 2008 R2 servers we run DHCP, DNS, and AD. The problem is that when I bind a computer to the the domain, the hostname changes in the terminal window to one owned by an IP address previously. I'm worried that this might interfere with applications / scripts that run in the terminal.
I read that there is a hostname config file in OSX that can be configured to override this. I'd rather not do this for every computer in the domain though. Even if it could be scripted I'd have to manually type every hostname..not fun. I've read that enabling dynamic DNS on the DNS server should fix this but it doesn't appear to. We have "Always dynamically update DNS A and PTR records" checked and also "Dynamically update DNS A and PTR records for DHCP clients that do not request updates"
On the Mac client I've tried enabling and disabling the enable dyanmic DNS checkbox..
Is there a way to change this via a switch either on the backend or in the client itself without having to change that hostname file?

I mean this: [URL]. One of the greatest features of Lion I like is the pop-up dictionary. Since I am not a native English speaker, I use this feature a lot, and it is very convenient. But the only thing that bugs me is that I cannot find any way to customise it. The black text on the translucent gray background makes it difficult to read depending on the background of the application. I want to change the background colour and the opacity.The text is too small. It does not change with the text size of the application. I want to enlarge the text size. Is there any way to achieve this or is this another example of Apple's infamous use-it-as-it-is-or-get-lost feature?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Epson Workforce 845 Printer. It is working well. However, I am running into one annoyance. The Epson printer will take envelopes in Cassette 1. I ahve envelopes loaded there and plain letter paper in Cassette 2. When I print an envelope it is no problem. I simply in the Print dialog select the Envelope preset and it works well. However, I don't wish to select a plain paper preset *each time* I print an ordinary document. However, the Default print settings defaults to Casette1 and I see no way to force it to default to cassette 2 except when I don't select an override.

I downloaded a picture of the black Apple Linen texture online.I wanted to change the background of the finder. The picture is 1920x1080 so I figured the size would be fine I have the 21.5" iMac.But when I change to the picture it doesn't fill the page, but fills the top left of the page. The area of the picture doesn't change when I change the size of my Finder.I also downloaded a picture of size 128x128 The picture didn't stretch, it just took the size in the top left of my finder screen.

I am wanting to add a new user group with an ID of 1000, and move my main account into that group, then update everything that has the old GID with the new one. This is so that I can share files easier with another UNIX system I use without having to tweak the permissions for each file. I've done quite a bit of searching in the past couple days, but all I can seem to come up with are old, outdated instructions that don't work on OS X anymore.Â

Why does the default email reader in Mail Preferences keep changing to Outllook after I set it to Mail 5.2 and then close the preference pane? The Default in Outlook is set as Mail 5.2.

How do you change the icons in the Finder's sidebar? For no apparent reason, Apple took away the ability to add custom folders or color to the sidebar, but I'm hoping for a workaround.

Recently, I had decided to change my MacBook Pro name. After reading the warning, I understood that everything would turn into defualt settings and I would not loose any other information. However, in result, after completing a restart; my computer made duplicates of music and pictures. To add on to this, the name change deleted my playlist, which I have no problems with, and made about 3 duplicates of every song in my library which consisted of about 28 gigs of music. Btw...all of the files are there, it is just that there are tons of duplicate files which need to be deleted because of this computer name change.

i am trying to get a number of things straightened out now that i have moved to mac and am wondering if there is any utility to upgrading to lion before changing my short user name [URL] or buying a new laptop. i think the new laptop will happen within the next two month and moving to lion is needed to keep my mobileme account (and some sync functionality). ideally i would like to PORT settings to the new laptop but if it is advisable or only possible to get privacy by re-installing i am willing to do this.Â
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac. Â
I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back. Â
