OS X V10.7 Lion :: Cannot Select Drives When Trying To Upload Any Type Of File To Web
May 10, 2012
I have trashed the Finder preferences and when restarted, for a few seconds it looks like it will work, but within seconds of trying to select a drive or file, the open/select dialogue box changes to a basic "home" look and does nothing. it's not locked up, and I can cancel out, but I cannot select anything. I would upload a screen shot but... (read above again)". Here's what the dialog looks like when he goes to choose a file, be it Mail, Safari or any app uploading to web:
I am trying to setup a Mac Pro with Lion Server that will allow us to access our videos and images via the local network.Â
I have created a group and populated it with the names/accounts of those that will be using the server.Â
I have added both installed drives as share points, the smaller one is the system/boot drive and the larger one contains the video and images (both drives are internally-mounted). I've also enabled the group's permission to read/write.Â
We are able to login to the server via afp but we only see our individual home directories on the system/boot drive.Â
Just put together a CV using Open Office, it's currently saved as a .odt. I'll be sending this out to a few companies and I'd like to know what the best file type is to select that will be readable by everyone? When I go to 'save as' I see a long list of options and I'm not sure which one to pick so that PC users can view.
I have set up a windows partition on 3rd Hard Drive of my Mac Pro (400GB) with Boot camp assistant. Inserted my Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit disc and restarted. It boots from the CD OK (can hold down option and select the bootable volume fine) but the first thing that comes up is:....
When I download a file it automatically goes to my download folder, I DONT WANT THAT. How can I set it like on a PC to choose which folder it should download to...on a file by file basis?
Here is what I need to know: 1- What log file type are available in Mac OS X computers? 2- How do I access those files? 3- What info (detailed) is actually storred in those files? I require quite a bit of detail to resolve my problems. I realize this is a fairly lengthy answer.
On mobile me/idisk I would upload the file to one of the folders (usually Public) the just click the share tab and enter the relevant address. Is idisk not part of the icloud way of doing things? If not how do i upload?
I'm trying to share my MBPr over my LAN with my windows 8 desktop. When i go to the file sharing options, under "Windows File Sharing" section, the user account i want to share (my main account) is greyed out, so I can not select it. The other user account is selectable though.Â
Any reason why I can't select my main account??

I have a file that I don't know how to open. It's 2GB and from what I remember it was either a .zip or .dmg file. However some time ago when I made it I also removed the last 3 characters from the name and renamed it .mov. This changed the way that finder dealt with it. Now I would like to open it but when I change the suffix to either of the above they aren't recognised making me wonder if either the file is corrupt or maybe it's not a zip or dmg.
How can I tell what the file is? I've gone into terminal and queried it with the "file" command but it just tells me that it's data.

Before I get yelled at, I'll get in first, yup, I'm a newbie! Also before i start, I'm a windoz person and is possibly part of the reason I can't sort this out on a mac.I am helping a friend build a wikispace and whilst we can write text to it, we cannot upload any pictures to it any more. it did work a week ago though...it comes up with <URL> picname.jpg error during upload - please try again (io error) in both safari and firefoxuploading pictures to facebook doesn't work anymore- maybe this is a clue too?We are using mac osx 10.5.8.If I use my PC and log in to the wikispace, we can upload pix no problems at all.
I'm trying to upload photo files to an online server in Safari 5.I have OSX Lion. How can I choose more than one file at a time?I've tried Select All (Command A) and it just jumps to the first file in the folder. Also have tried clicking on the first file, holding down shift and clicking on the last file.Just highlights the last file.Is there an easy way to choose all files?
Safari and Firefox crash when I try to upload something through the browser. Before when I would upload a file, a finder window would pop up, but it immediately crashes before this window appears. I tried logging in as a different user in the OS and that didn't work. But when I rebooted in safe mode. I was able to get the finder pop up window to upload the file.
Here is the crash report: Process: Safari [1076] Path: /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari Identifier: com.apple.Safari Version: 5.0.6 (5533.22.3) Build Info: WebBrowser-75332203~3 .....
File Upload Page now keeps hanging up every time I want to do an attachment in Gmail. This problem only started yesterday. Was fine before that.Â
I have done a Virus scan with ClamX and removed x3 Phising files and also a Malware scan and removed something called 'Genieo' omnibar.safariextz These are now all in trash.
I had to upload new driver for my Fuji Printer yesterday. Also was trying to do an online form for a Credit File firm who requested and online application. It was when I was trying to upload attachments to send to them for ID Documents and also their application form that this problem started and has now continued.
However, I am not sure what file type I should be creating or the codecs I should be using (video and audio). If the file type isnt supported by the TV, I will play the file on my comp and use the TV as an external display, so dont worry about that.
Could someone tell me the specs of the files I should be creating (and a decent app to use as well)?
I have googled this but can't find anything very good. If anyone knows of a site explaining this stuff, let me know.
Wondering if anyone knows of a piece of software that will determine the type of AVI file I have. I guess tells me what type of encoding it is.
I have some AVI files that will not stream to my xbox360 with Rivet or Connect360 and it's really pissing me off so I'm just trying to see if they are just the wrong type of encoding or what.
I was wondering how I can sort by file type? I have a bunch of .moi and .mod files in a directory and want yo delete the .moi files. If I could sort by type, then it would just be a matter of highlighting those and deleting. I tried sorting by kind, but since they are seen as Unix Executable files by the OS, it sorts them but not by .moi or .mod.Â
I am working on my website and apparently I don't know how to open a zip file. I was unable to upload a zip file in Joomla's back end manager. This was my first time dealing with a zip file.
There is probably an easy fix to this, but I am clueless. I just made the big switch to Mac recently, so bear with me.When I am in Safari trying to upload an image the file upload box remains blank. The little load icon is constantly "loading" but nothing ever really loads. So, I cannot uplad any files. Originally, I thought it may have just been a bug in Facebook. But, I went to my blog as well to try and upload images, but the same thing happens.
this is driving me insane. On Tiger I was always able to select the default application to open a given file type, but I can't do this in SL. I want the XLD app to always open my .flac files. So, I click on a .flack file, select "get info" and select "Open with - XLD", and then I click CHANGE ALL. Fine. Next time, I just click "open" on a .flac and it's back to some other application being the default for opening the file, and not XLD! It keeps doing that, no matter how I keep trying to get XLD to be the default... what am I doing wrong, and what can I do to get it to work?
I'm new to apple and just successfully ripped a CD to iTunes in apple lossless. How do I get iTunes to display the music file type? I'm using an older upgraded hand me down early 2008 macbook pro.Â
Control-click I get three options in a box Reload Page/Save Page As/Print Page File Save As I get "audio-sample-2.webarchive" could not be exported as "audio-sample-2" I'm a transcription and need to receive audio files from clients in various ways.
