OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Updating To Lion - No Apps Installation Disc
Feb 21, 2012I got an iMac with Snow Leopard factory installed. I now want to update to Lion, but I'm not sure if, when I update, all my apps will still be there. I do have the app installation disc from Snow Leopard, will it still work in case the apps won't be there?

Aug 29, 2009I have a 2007 Intel MBP, running Leopard. I purchased the family version of Snow Leopard. When I tried to install it, it just spins the disc for a minute, makes the noise like it's trying to read it and then spits it out. All other discs work fine with my MBP so I know it is not the disc drive itself. I have all software "up to date." My brother installed SL on both of his MBs, one newer than mine and one older, just fine (with the same disc). I haven't seen anything out there with this issue so I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone knows how to resolve this issue (beyond taking it back to Apple and exchanging).

May 22, 2012I want to format my Macbook Pro (Intel i7 2.7 GHz) and give it a fresh installation of Snow Leopard. I currently have two partitions on my 500 GB hard drive: the first one with the operative system, and the second one with all the backup data I want to save. Anyone can assure me that, if I install Snow Leopard again through the installation DVD, the second partition will NOT be erased? I have partial backup of the data, but not enough space for everything on my external drives. I just want to make sure that the second partition remains untouched during the installation.Â

OS X :: Leopard Won't Boot Not Find Startup Disc?
Jan 1, 2009I need your help please. It all started when I was trying to install Windows XP under Boot Camp on my Macbook Pro (Leopard). I followed the manual and made the partition for Windows (32GB), but when I inserted Windows XP Install CD and had to choose partition to install it on, there was just one that seemed to be my Leopard startup disc (it had some 120GB). I did not know what to do, so I just left the installation process and the notebook restarted. When it loaded, it was trying to boot from the Windows CD so I tried to install it, but same problem appeared -> restart. I tried to load Leopard by holding Option key while loading, but only options for windows and windows cd appeared, no Leopard -> Shut down. While booting, I force-ejected the CD by holding down trackpad button -> blinking underscore on black screen appeared. I shut the MBP down by holding power button and inserted Leopard Install CD. When it loaded, I booted from the CD by holding Option key. This time I was ready to even re-install Leopard just to make it work but when I had to chose the harddisk to install Leopard on, there was none. It seems to me that somehow nobody can see the harddisk and I have no idea what to do with it.

There doesn't seem to be a clean install option without running the snow leopard disc from boot. Is there any way that I can run the install disc from boot via remote disc so I can run a clean install? I tried restarting my computer and holding down the alt/option key, which showed the only available boot drive as my macbook pro's internal hard drive.

So I don't really know what happen with mine. My DVD drive work fine though.

It is probable that a new disk/flash has MBR table, as usual with PCs; GUID is for intel macs, APT for older PPC macs. If you want to exchange data with PCs, choose RAW, otherwise they will not be probably able to copy data unto this drive.So one first formats the partition, then the volume (partition, I suppose).However, the partition choices don't match the recommended formats:Â
"MBR table" is presumably "Master Boot Record" (DOS/Windows only) "GUID" is first here (OS X 10.4 or later on Intel Macs only) "APT" is probably "Apple Partition Map" (all Macs only) "RAW" is the only one recommended for both Macs and PCs,but it is not an option in the screen shot above, nor when I go to the Partition tab in my Disk Utility (v.11.5.1). How do I choose RAW (to use as storage with Macs & PCs)?(Then I should erase the volume and format it as MS-DOS/Fat.)

I'm pretty sure screenshots used to always be png, but I just noticed that they are now jpeg. I do a lot of graphics work and want to capture as png.Â
Here there are instructions for code in Terminal. Is that really necessary? Shouldn't it just be a preference somewhere? (I will always use cmd+shift+4 to take the screenshots)

Even if its from a company you love and trust.
