I run a small business which has a new Mac Mini 10.7 and iMacs 10.5.8 which we currently store all our on-going work on a Hard Drive connected via ethernet. However, I want to try and achieve the following:Â
1 storage device for all work (around 1TB in size)
Access to my work from home, main office or another office
Work directly on drive (don't want to download, amend, and re-upload)
Access via various Mac OS, from 10.5-10.7
Not too expensive! Is there any on-line storage site or Live Hard Drive I can use to gain access to my work, work live directly to from various locations using the Macs as above, or am I just dreaming of something that does not exist?Â
I hope this makes sense, it foes to me, but do ask if I am talking gobbledegook!Â

I'm having big problems with USB mass storages. After upgrading to Mavericks my Mac doesn't see some USB storage devices (mostly USB sticks and Android phone's memory cards via USB. My external USB 3.0 hard disks work fine) at all even though the devices themselves (for example my Android phone) are clearly recognized according to the System Report. When I plug them in, they don't show up on my Finder or on Disk Utility.Â
I've searched everywhere and it seems like some other people are having the same problem, none seems to offer a definite solution. I've even formatted my HD and reinstalled Mavericks from the recovery partition. Now it mounts a USB stick that was in one of the USB ports at the time of installation but still doesn't read anything else! The funny thing is when I boot into Windows 8 on my Boot Camp partition, I can mount any USB devices including the USB stick and the Android phone I'm having problems on Mavericks without any problems. I can even see then when I boot into the recovery so there's clearly something wrong with Mavericks.Â
Running Lion. Trying to recover files from two identical, old hard drive. Both are IBM Deskstars that used to run Windows. Using a Startech USB to IDE adapter. I was able to get 1 HD to mount, but it was not the one with the files that I need. The 2nd hard drive will not mount, nor does it show up in Disk Utility. I've downloaded Data Rescue 3, Disk Drill, Stellar Phoenix and Photo Rescue. But, still no luck. I've tried to mount it using Terminal, but no luck. Please help... I'm pulling out my hair and will be bald soon.Â

After upgrading to 10.7,4 I can no longer access my external IOMega Prestige drive. This drive is encrypted/protected via IOMega's Drive Protection software.
The following is in the kernel log after I enter the password for the drive.

Why don't I see my macbook as using any of my icloud storage? My iphone and ipad are there and show their latest backups. Does this mean my macbook isn't backed up to icloud? I am using Lion and iCloud seems to be on in my Macbook's System Preferences. My photos stream fine and my calendar moves from my iphone to my mac wirelessly. What am I missing?

Is there or will there be a way for us to store all our data/files on our Mac Book Pro up to iCloud now or sometime soon.Appears Apple is moving us to store all our data/files/music/ video etc.on iCloud. Will we soon be able to back-up our files to iCloud using "Time Machine"?

I have a macbook air 128g and am running out of storage space. I am wondering if I can use icloud as a primary storage for my media files (Photos, music, video, etc). Then I could potentially remove from hard drive to free up space. I am concerned if this is possible and what the cons would be. I am thinking that Itunes library and photos would not be as quickly accesible as it would be using the hard drive.Â

i cannot backup my iphone4s because no more storage is displayed when the storage statistics shows Total Storage 5GB and Available Storage 5GB - basically i haven't used any memory but i cannot backup! i am only trying to back up my notes and contacts. that's it. and i don't think it will use up 5GB

I have got for the communitiy regarding iCloud storage please. Are we, of if not, will we ever be at the stage where we can use iCloud as off-site storage for not just e-mail but documents saved in Word, Excel and Powerpoint for Apple and Photos stored in iPhoto.I ask as my Time Capsule recently packed up and was wondering with the advance of Cloud computing could iCloud replace my old storage / back-up.

The guy I called from apple today was clueless and told me he didn't know how to do it, and then told me the wrong thing!I bought the storage under the impression that it was a useful product, but it wasn't doing what I thought it was supposed to do! I just want to get rid of this extra storage!! I mean, this is ridiculous if the apple employees aren't trained in this!

Can you save documents to iCloud simply as storage and to access from another PC, iPad or device that isn't your own? I want to access documents remotely but can't see how to do this without buying iWorks for my iPhone, which is not what I want. I previously stored a few important documents on iDisk and am trying to replicate this so I can access them when I am away from my MacBook.

I am trying to downgrade my iDisk storage capacity from 20 to 10 GB. I am following directions, but after selecting the desired option, the system does not give me any prompts to follow. I need to do this before June 30.

I have 1.76 GB Free on my iPhone 5 but whenever I try to sync, I get a message saying it can't be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all fo the selected items (additional 1.18 GB required). How do I fix this issue so I can sync my phone? I have already update the phone to the latest update, so that's not the issue. Also wanted to note that I backup my stuff to my computer - not the cloud....

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm curious what people use for external storage on their iMacs. I have a Mac Pro which is getting a little long in the tooth. I'm debating whether to get a new Mac Pro or to get an iMac, which would be a pretty good speed bump from my Mac Pro 1,1. I'd get the ssd drive, and the 2TB harddrive and get aftermarket RAM. But what I like about the Mac Pro is the upgrades you can do. And I like the four hard drive bays, for storage and backup. I've got over 3 TB of photos and music/tv/movies, so I'm going to need an external drive. In addition, I'd like to be able to backup everything. Is there an elegant way to do this on an iMac with an external drive that isn't super loud and hot?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently performed an optical drive install. Had to remove the hard drive bays (I use three hard drives - Luckily, 2 run OSX). Â I carefully removed all three drive bays and the empty bay. When I inserted the drives into the computer I had changed the position, swapping one OSX drive with a different one and reversing the drive bays. On restart, the computer started on the drive I had not selected for startup and I received an error message stating the other drive could not mount and it gave three options (Initialize - Ignore and Eject). Â
I can see the drive in Disk Utility and repair the permissions (it's also located in the System Profile). Â
I tried a few things I read in the community using various Terminal commands but was unsuccessful. Â Â
(Let me point out that I recently switched from a PPC G5 to MacPro and swapped the drives from PPC into MacPro and all has been fine until I removed changed their positions in the bays)Â

I tried searching for a solution for this and can't find any. I've seen one other threat in here about similar problems but the variables in my case are different. Here's the thing, a friend of mine lent me her usb pen-drive. She uses it on a pc mostly at work. When she gave it to me she forgot to copy some files i needed so she plugged it into her macbook pro (one of the new ones from this year, intel, snow leopard and stuff), copied the files i needed on it and i took it home. I have an intel imac, bought on april 2009. I plugged the usb pen-drive on my keyboard usb port and nothing happened. So i took it out, plugged it in again and nada. I did it a 3rd time and this time it showed me a message saying that this pen-drive needed more power and i had to try plugging it into a different usb port. So i plugged it in the back of my imac and nothing happened, not even the "insufficient power" message. It doesn't mount, won't show up in the desktop nor in the sidebar of a finder window.
I checked the disk utility and the pen-drive shows up there. I see the "main" pen-drive and it's "partition" (i dunno how to call it... mmm... you know, like you're seeing the "parent" drive and its "son" drive but they're "one and the same") and i can see its tech info and i noticed it's formatted NTFS. Since it worked just fine on my friend's macbook pro, i can't figure out why isn't it working in my imac. I know macs can't write NTFS, only read (mine doesn't at least) but hers wrote info in the pen-drive no prob. Another thing i noticed is that the "son" drive is grayed out. I can see its tech info but it's grayed out. Verifying the drive simply shows a message saying "Verify volume failed: Invalid request.".
So, i have no clue as to what's going on. I could give it back and ask my friend to format it as journal or whatever it's called to be mac os compatible and copy the info back again, but i don't know if that'd be a solution until i'm able to try it in a few days. Can't ask her to format it fat32 since the file i need is larger than 4gb, so yeah. Any clues as to what could be the problem? I even tried unplugging any usb peripherals and no dice.
I understand macs can mount .iso with a simple double click, but I want my macbook to treat an iso file as if it were a CD in the cd drive. This is easily done on a C with PowerISO or Alcohol120% I should be able to do it on a mac too, shouldn't I? But I can't seem to figure out how to. When I double click the iso to just mount it, it mounts fine, i can access files and everything, but if I run a program that reads of the CD i of course get the "Please insert CD". Now, I have the CD right here, that's no big problem, but the using drive kills the battery life like nothing else.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have this sans digital USB towerraid enclosure, with one, 1TB drive in it. It's formated as NTFS. It was working just fine, but for some reason, I went to connect it to a windows machine today and it basically froze up the computer. so i tried a few things, and it was still freezing the computer. So i connect it to my macbook pro where it normally is, and when it tries to mount the device i get an error from NTFS-3G. I added an attachment of the error it gives. I tried inserting the command line it suggests in terminal , but it didn't really do anything. I'm not really familiar with terminal or how to use it fully.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed SL today and everything seemed perfect until I tried to mount my USB HDD it's a Maxtor drive inside the case, the case is produced by Lace.
The drive is pretty old like 3-4 years but it worked perfectly in Leopard.
It says I should check the drive with disc utility but when I do so it finds no faults.
Today I went to plug in my Lacie 250 GB USB external hard drive into my 13 in. MacBook to get a shirt template for a design I am making. I discovered that the hard drive just would not mount and show on the desktop, and I remembered that this happened a few days before, but all I did was unplug it and plug it back in, and it worked... except that today, that didn't work at all. I tried the other USB port, and the hard drive showed up on the desktop for about a second, and then disappeared. I kept on replugging it back into both USB ports, but nothing happened.
Then I tried to see if it would work on the PC beside me, and it was recognized as an external device; however, a message came up telling me the drive was malfunctioning. I am guessing this is from ejecting it incorrectly (because I am in a hurry to head to my next classes...I use this laptop at school), but I have incorrectly disconnected it before in the past and this problem never happened to me before.
Every single project I have ever created for my design career is on that hard drive, and all I want now is to get my files back. All I need it to do is show up on the desktop for just the right amount of time for me to copy my files onto my computer.
I read online to put it into the freezer for a while and it should mount, but that didn't work. I tried using Disk Warrior, Data Rescue 3, and Tech Tool Deluxe, but the hard drive did not show up on any of those apps.I tried plugging the hard drive into an iMac as well, but it did not show up either.
I just bought an external hard drive (My Passport for Mac) because my Macbook's hard drive is almost full. I did not want it necessarily for backup purposes, but rather I wanted to be able to store music, docs, etc. that I might want to access in the future, but want to remove from my computer for now.
Should I use Time Machine? Will time machine let me access my hard drive to obtain certain files when needed? Or is Time Capsule's sole purpose to backup everything on my computer?
I am embarrassed to say that last night, after taking care of my grandbaby for several hours and half-asleep myself, I intended to pull out my power cord to move my MacBook, but by accident pulled out the storage drive firewire. Of course, the drive appears to have been erased. It won't even show up on my desktop anymore.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook with a storage drive connected via firewire. All was fine but now suddenly it won't show the contents of the folders and it won't eject. I tried dragging it to the trash, and I also tried the eject arrow in the list of drives. I tried to open Disk Utility, but it just spins. I also tried to throw something else away in the trash, and the trash folder will not take it.
Normally if something like this happened, I would just restart and hope it rights itself, but I don't know if I can do that with a storage drive still attached. (On another occasion, the storage drive got pulled out improperly and luckily I was able to repair it with Disk Utility.)
