OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: See Video Processes In It?
May 23, 2012
Where in Leopard 10.6.8 can I see running processes, or something interfering with iSight camera being engaged in Skype video call? I have theory that some other process in my Mac is trying to use camera and that freezes existing video. My theory has a problem since on my other iMac video never starts. Spinning white wheel is there forever, for duration of conversation.

Finally I will replace an old white core duo IMAC that we use in our house. Besides the basic stuff like doing kids homework, my main intensive use is to use imovie for family video editing. I have a HD sony camcorder and with my current mac its impossible to work. Now with the new imacs I would like to know what option will be better for those long processes in imovie (importing, exporting, stabilization, etc). better processor: core 2 duo 3.06 or i5 more memory: 4 vs 8 gb better graphics: 4670 vs 4850.

I have a dual monitor setup on my mac pro. I didn't like having my second monitor on when I was running games, so I installed SwitchResX, which allows me to deactivate my second monitor. Does anyone know if this frees up video memory for the game?
I emailed the creator of the program, and asked him if he knew if this would free up video ram for my other programs, but he did not know. He said that this would release the frame buffer, but wasn't sure if this meant that all of the card's video ram was released to handle the one monitor. I am skeptical that it does, because the system profiler still sees the second monitor, and says that it is online.

On my previous hard drive with an earlier Mac OS, I had found apps that allowed me to download a variety of videos in nearly all formats -- .wmv, .mpg, .flv and more. With a new hard drive and SnowLeopard, most will not download. I don't recall what I used before

So my brother and I just upgraded to SL and we decided to do a video chat to check out the new quality. The quality is nice the only problem is... there is no sound! If I initiate the video chat, he can hear me, but I can't hear him. If he initiates it, the opposite happens. Anyone else try iChat yet between 2 SL computers and have the same problem?

Using a mid-2009 15" MBP, 3.06 GHz. iChat has been using significantly more CPU during a video chat than before the upgrade. Anyone else seeing this? I'm currently using the 9400M and not the 9600GT, but I don't think it would have any effect on this. Specifically, it uses about 100% (out of 200). Screen shot of the activity monitor is attached.
I do notice, however, that during the video chat, it is not using the iChat process AND the vcencoder process that is also used in leopard. It just uses the iChat process. I still don't think it should be using so much CPU to video chat.

I have recently moved most of my photos and videos to an eternal hard drive but I am not sure how to remove everything from my HD. I deleted everything out of Iphoto and deleted the trash but if I do a search for video it still shows videos in Iphoto. Also I am not sure how to remove all of the old video from Imovie without doing any damage.

All of a sudden I am getting choppy video playback on web content from any site using any browser. I have searched and searched every online forum I can find. The problem most say is old machines that are not Intel proccessors. Another problem described is RAM. And another is the Flash player plug-in. I have a 2008/9 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1gHz MacBook, with 4Gb RAM! And over 20Gb of space left on my 320Gb hard drive. I do not see why there would be any hardware problems here. I have also uninstalled the Flash plug-in, properly and completely. I have reinstalled it too and according to the Adobe website it is running properly. I also use MacKeeper and everything according to that is running efficiently. The last time I completely reformatted my HDD was less than a year ago. My battery is old, but it still manages to last for about 3 hours, so I'm guessing that's not packed up just yet either. why my web video is still choppy? The sound for a video plays out just fine, but the video freezes and then starts up again a few seconds later. Some browser it's better on one day and worse the next. The same is true for different websites. But it is almost never smooth.

I'm selecting my wife's new iMac and I'm uncertain which video card to get. She uses Adobe CS3 professionally and will upgrade to Snow Leopard. But she doesn't edit video, watch movies, play games on her Mac. And her CS3 work seems not too heavy, since it still works well on a 6-year old dual G5 system. But I understand Snow Leopard has support for GPU acceleration. For graphic design work, are the GT130 or ATI 4850 worth the upgrade price over the GT120?

I just noticed, that the built-in video-cams on two iMacs (one white 20" and one aluminum 24") do not work.
System Profiler is not detecting a video-cam. I guess, this probably confirms that this is not the GM build. Does anyone have a solution to enabling the video-cams?

I just tried using iChat for the first time in SL (I usually use Skype) and experienced something *very* odd.
First, the specs:
Late-2007 MBP
2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM
GeForce 8600M GT
The problem:
For the first few seconds of a chat, the video quality was gorgeous. But then my hard drive(?) (could've been the fans, I dunno) would start getting really loud (it sounded like a particularly intense Time Machine backup) and the video got extremely "blocky" until it was basically useless; after a few minutes the audio started to go, too.
We tried this a couple times with the same results. I rebooted my computer & AirPort, but no change.
My chat partner experienced no problems with audio or video (he's also on SL).
According to SpeedTest.net, my connection speeds are 12.31 Mb/s down/1.13 Mb/s up.
Skype and Google Talk video continue to work just fine.

So when I had Leopard 10.5, I used to use Save Hollywood as my screensaver application. What that does is transform any video file that you have in a screensaver. After Snow Leopard came out, Save Hollywood no longer works... I don't know what else to do, that was a must have for me and it is starting to frustrate me. Is there any other software that would allow me to use a video file as a screensaver that would work on Snow Leopard. Has Apple fixed this issue on 10.6.3?

i watch tv through a website called tvunetworks which requires the installation of a video plugin, i have been using it for a while and have had no problems until today.Im not particularly tech savvy but had the bright idea of upgrading to snow leopard without doing any research and instantly, my plugins do not work any more.
I have tried reinstalling the plugin, but no matter what i do the player still shows up as a question mark and safari prompts me to install the plugin. I have also tried reverting safari to 32 bit but the browser just crashes when i load videos.

There used to be Conference Recorder by iCamm, but it doesn't support OS X 10.6. I'm looking for some software that enables me to record iChat video, but not necessarily while I'm chatting with someone -- I used to use Conference Recorder to record a video diary for my own purposes. If I’m using iChat and not chatting with anybody the “record video” option is not enabled. Ther has GOT to be some third-party software out there that does the same job as Conference Recorder did. And I’m not talking that ripoff, SnapzPro — who has $69 to spend on shareware? Apple sells an entire OS for less than $30. Besides, I don’t want a screen recorder — I would like one specifically for iChat.

So this problem started yesterday where whenever I try to play a video (youtube,or any other site) neither the sound nor image works, but whenever i make the video fullscreen, everything works perfectly. It's a bit annoying if I want to watch a video or listen to music off youtube whilst doing other things.

I want to use automator to make a time lapse video, but I'd like the video snapshots taken to come from my external isight camera (not the built-in isight).
I see that someone else had the same question a few years back (https://discussions.apple.com/message/11257733#11257733), but I thought I'd try again. Maybe things have changed since 2010?

I couldn't wait any longer. I was going to wait until tomorrow, but I decided to test it out today. The following is a short video clip of the X25-M in action under Snow Leopard (on my late 2008 uMBP 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM).
It's not much of a benchmark. I simply selected everything in the Applications folder and hit open to start all the programs at the same time.
Needless to say, I am happy with the results!

This video is loading Photoshop, Illustrator and Soundbooth all at the same time. And then individually.

The video quality is not the best. It's on my old Olympus C5050z digicam.
Also, quick xbench results (left is old HDD, right is SSD):

Are others experiencing this? I'm having issue getting a good solid answer after googling for quite a while. Some of the threads I have read also lead to no end result.
When I watch any videos, no matter what it is, after about 2 minutes my black macbook heats up and then run at fan speeds of 3600-4800rpm and it's super annoying and hot. As soon as I turn off the video, it cools down back to 1800 RPM and runs at 62 degrees. Sooooo odd.
I went to the genius bar and the guy there said that it is probably due to the fact that Snow Leopard takes advantage of the dual-core processor. I don't understand why it needs to utilize this processor where as it never had an issue on leopard before I upgraded.
I've also read that reloading the OS doesn't seem to help. Is this a common issue? Should I go back to Leopard?
I've only noticed that expose` is a little bit fancier on SL but other than that, I do not notice much of anything that is different.

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.
