Mar 26, 2012Have downloaded an update file 'skype_5.6.0.143' for iMac. Have an icon for it in Finder but unable to proceed from there. Double clicking on this icon brings a warning box advising disk image could not be opened as not recognised. Can drag or copy/paste icon into Application folder with the same response.

Sep 28, 2009I'm trying to configure my new Mac Pro in 10.6.1 and I'm having trouble opening iDisk.
I know iDisk has always been slow and flaky in OSX but this is just getting ridiculous.
After entering the name/password it just closes the window and does nothing??? Thanks in advance.

Mar 2, 2010I convinced/helped a friend upgrade her 1.83Ghz CD MacBook to Snow Leopard. It has not been a smooth ride. Right off the bat there have been persistent and recurring DNS problems. She has also found that it won't shut down without her going through and quitting or force quitting open apps--skype being of particular issue. Tonight she had a kernel panic, it seems. It appears skype is the problem app, but this didn't occur before the SL upgrade. Is it coincidental or correlated?

Jun 8, 2012I launched Mail as I ordinarily do. It opened up, but the header bar was grayed out. Finally I managed to open program via Message/Go To/ Inbox, but no messages appeared in any of my mailboxes (even though I had several still in there from today). Nothing is happening, I even can't quit teh mail program.

Jan 10, 2008I am completely unable to open any PDF with my new MacBook Pro, which is running Leopard (OS X 10.5.1). Preview doesn't work, Safari doesn't work, QuickTime doesn't work. If I must uninstall and clean install, I'd really appreciate any guidance anyone could give about this process. For instance, will I lose everything that's stored in my programs (i.e., all my personal files, preferences, and emails) when I uninstall? And what's the best way to go about backing up my info, uninstalling, and installing?

"Skype_6.18.0.493.dmg/Image data corrupted" I have tried everything tried using a different browser, change the gate keeper setting to allow downloads from anywhere, right clicking dmg file and click open but it just seems that for some reason my laptop will not let me open up this DMG. The file system we use is a Windows 2008 File Server, this has worked fine with leopard for years
However I understand that Leopard splits the files into resource forks - and that Lion has dropped support for these files. That particular mac is now on Lion as we upgraded and encountering LOTS of issuesÂ
I unable to open or edit lots of the files as i believe chunks of the files are missing. E.g an .eps file showed as 740KB on leopard - Viewing from a windows PC it was 730kb for the .eps and 10kb for the ._ resource fork.Â
Now that we are on the LION upgrade, we only see the .eps file and it is only 730kb. Information missing is things such as preview (quark), Font data, type of file, version number. we have hundreds! of images, files etc created with leopard and now upgraded to lion they all have become useless!
Rejoining the resource forks and files together so that they are usable on lion

Nov 7, 2009I've been having a problem with Snow Leopard since I installed it, and it's been bugging me like mad, but I haven't been able to find a solution or anyone with a similar case anywhere. Today, however, I tried again, and I ran across this news article, which perfectly described my problem:

You can force-quit and try again, but it won't work any better the second time.
