OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Scanner Or Fax Not Getting Detected On PowerMac
Apr 15, 2012
I have Snow Leopard Mac OS 10.6.8, and I am trying to install my multifunction Canon printer. It detects and prints fine, but it won't detect my scanner or fax. I have no hard line for the fax - I use CableVision's wireless router for phone and internet. Is there a way for me to use either function (scanner or fax) with my Mac? I have an older Canon stand-alone scanner, Canoscan N1240U, and it won't detect that either...

Before my HP Photosmart C3100 worked fine with my Imac 27" i was able to print and scan without any issues. But lately after i haven't scanned for a while over the summer i tried scanning again and it always says NO SCANNER selected in the open scanner box from the print & fax panel from the system preferences. It prints fine but whenever i open scanner dialog box it says NO scanner selected? Why is it not recognizing the scanner part of the printer anymore?I tried uninstalling and installing the printer again didn't work

Trying to find a solution to my printing issues, which have taken many forms over the years. The current frustrating gremlin: Macbook Air, OS X 10.6.8, Lexmark E250D laser, printer driver built in to Mac OS, driver .dmg also downloaded and installed from Lexmark  Wireless home network on NETGEAR router with extension to Airport Express. Lexmark E250D laser attached to USB on the Airport Express. Cannot add printer via the default pathway, the Bonjour system finds the printer correctly for about 5 seconds after the printer is plugged in to the AE USB port then it simply disappears off the window never to return. Airport Utility cannot find the AE which I recently reset and set up without problem. The AE light is green.Â
Via Network Preferences I find the IP of the AE and try to set up LPD printing. This successfully finds the Lexmark, calls it a Generic Postscrpipt until I select the Lexmark driver from the OS X list. It seems to correctly identify printer features such as in built memory and duplex printing. Sending a file to the printer results in the warning that the IP address is busy. In the past I simply connected by USB cable to the printer, but since a recent move the house/ office layout makes that very inconvenient. I have to go outside and downstairs to the office which has no internal access from the main part of the house.Â

I know that snow leopard was supposed to make scanner sharing easier, but this just isn't happening for me!! Its really odd.
I have two imacs (24" and 27" brand new one). The scanner is hooked up to the 27" imac and both computers are running 10.6.2
The 24 is networked to the 27. We share files and can share printers. I have had no problem with me printing to his computer and him printing to mine.
We also can both move files back and forth to each other without an issue.
We have opened the system preferences on the 27" imac and selected "scanner sharing" and then we can see the scanner that is hooked to that computer and selected it. Then we closed the lock icon to keep it that way. The preferences should be all set.
HOWEVER, i still can not import from the scanner and can not see the scanner from my computer.
ALSO, when we open IMAGE CAPTURE on the computer that is directly connected to that scanner, I can see the scanner under devices, but it does not show under shared devices.
It used to be that you can set the sharing in the image caputer program - apparently now you can not.. but in trying to make it easier, it seems something got lost.
I just read through three pages of google results when searching this forum and nothing.. just a load of threads saying that Snow Leopard CAN, in fact, share a scanner..

My computer cannot see my scanner.I am using a UMAX 1220U flatbed scanner. It's connected by a USB cable. It has worked in the past with both Graphic Converter and Image Capture Version 6.0.1 (428).It has never worked with VueScan. Now, today, it won't work at all.Image Capture reports that no camera or scanner is connected. For drivers I use the SANE backends and frontends that I got from sane-project.org/intro.html. When Image Capture works, I see the SANE icon up in the "Devices" section of the column on the left. When Image Capture does not work, I do not see the SANE caption there.I have experimented with the USB cable, unplugging it and replugging it at both the computer and the scanner. I have moved the cable to different ports on the computer without success.
I have tried unplugging the power cord to the scanner for a while and then replugging the power cable. That has worked in the past, but not in the last two days.Today I redownloaded and reinstalled the SANE software again. It did not work.System Profiler does not list the scanner in the USB Device Tree.

I updated to Snow Leopard. I have an HP 6310 All-In-One. The scanner portion worked fine prior to the update, now an "Unknown Error" constantly occurs preventing me from scanning documents. Image Capture doesn't even recognize there is a scanner available. I have downloaded the most recent driver from HP, (2007), but it still does not work. Will I have to wait for HP to build a new driver specifically for Leopard?

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.1). I have an HP DeskJet F4280 All-In-One. It used to work great under 10.5.x, but now it will print fine but not scan.
If I launch HP Device Manager, and double-click Scan Picture, HP Scan Pro window opens, but I get the following error: Sorry, scanner could not be initialized (Scanner not found.).
If I press the hardware Scan button on the top of the unit itself, the power light blinks rapidly for about 10 seconds, then reverts to its normal state, and nothing else happens.
If I launch Image Capture 6.0(424) I get this error: No camera or scanner connected.
Under System Preferences>Print & Fax>Scan a window opens that reads HP Deskjet F4200 series and I click on Scanner, but it says No scanner selected.
However, System Profiler lists Deskjet F4200 series under USB High-Speed Bus, and, as already mentioned, the printer works fine.

I have an old Epson Stylus CX5400 all-in-one which works fine for my organization's occasional scanning needs (that's all we use it for). However, it's big and bulky and I'd rather replace it with something small that's more convenient to store and transport. I could probably get $50 for it on eBay.
What replacement do you recommend? I've checked out Epson's v30 and v300 and Canon's LiDE 100 so far. Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard compatibility would be best, though only the latter two are essential. I'd like not to spend more than $80.

Apple published a report url...that states system 10.6.8 supports the HP LaserJet 4MV. If this is accurate information, I would like to know where the drivers are located. I have spent more than three hours with your technical support and no one has a clue how to make this combination work.

I have downloaded Canon driver 10.51.2.0. I tried Navigator Ex 3.1 . All Apple updates have been run. I tried removing printer and bonjour scanner and reinstalling. All ng. I cannot launch from " Solutions Menu ". Printer does print. If I try and scan from image capture it scans very very slow and is not accurate. I tried connecting with a usb cable and not using the wifi. Still ng.

I recently purchased from a friend a Powermac G4. It was running Panther (i Think). Because it wasnt running all too well, I decided to give Leopard a go.
I had an extra copy of Leopard lying around, so I installed it. It booted up fine, and was working, until I restarted the computer. Now it doesn't boot up at all, and I get a grey screen with a folder with the mac symbol and a question mark on it. What have I done? And how to I fix it?

I read here that scan software for the HP OfficeJet 4215 under OS 10.5 was being tested and almost ready for release. That was in October, 2009. I can't find it anywhere. The HP download site says that the scanner function of the 4215 is not supported under 10.5. Does anyone have suggeestions on how I can get the scanner to work? Everything I try says, "No Image Capture Device found."

Okay, I have a power mac g4 sawtooth single CPU. I purchased a leopard install disk for the cheapest I could find without realising that it wasn't supported on this machine officially (I didn't get snow leopard because I knew that it only supported intel). So I inserted the disk (without modifying) and after booting to it got a kernel panic beginning with "the correct driver could not be found for this platform powermac 3,1". I then tried the open firmware hack many times and the same problem occured. I also tried the guide at [URL] many times even with putting in the kexts that the guide told me to if I was getting kernel panics but to no avail. I then managed to borrow my freinds intel mac and installed it to my guid partitioned 16 gb flash drive, I then cloned it to my APM partitioned other hard disk using superduper! and when booting got the same issue, I then put in the relevant kexts from the working tiger install but again to no avail

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

I have a Snow Leopard Install Disk for the 13-inch Macbook Pro model.I also have a 21-inch iMac. I have OS X Lion installed on both. I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.

"Photoshop CS" and "Acrobat 6.0 Standard" suddenly stopped working in my iMac, apparently after I upgraded it to MacOS 10.6.8 (the latest version of Snow Leopard). Both programs had worked normally until that OS upgrade. I deleted Photoshop CS and tried to re-install it from the original CD, but the installation never proceeds because I get an error message entitled: "Install Adobe Photoshop CS quit unexpectedly". This is the full error message:Â

Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store). When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.
I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March. In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update. This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto). The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website. However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this? Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?

I'm currently using a MBP 13 inch and am running Leopard on it.
I just bought a copy of snow leopard today but i don't know if I should do a direct upgrade from leopard to snow leopard, or wipe my MBP and do a fresh install so i have snow leopard on a clean slate.
Have any of you tried the second option before? Or do any of you have advice on which path I should take?

I've installed Rosetta but don't know what else to do.When I launch either application, it says it unexpectedly quit and gives this info:Â Process: [code]

iMac with 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, plenty of space available and currently operating 10.5.8. Now I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard and since my Mac Mini came with it, I attempted to use the OSX install disc from the Mini in the iMac. I don't see a reason why this shouldn't work. There's no DRM or anything as far as I know. I'm just trying to bridge the gap so I can download Lion. I've looked into some of the advice others have given on this subject but my computer doesn't have those issues. I've tried booting from disc but I get the same message.
